Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes movie Description:
Will Rodman (James Franco), a scientist in San Francisco, is experimenting with a drug that he hopes will cure his father's (John Lithgow) Alzheimer's disease. After his work is deemed a failure, Will becomes the guardian of Caesar, an infant chimp who was exposed in-utero to Will's drug. Caesar displays unusual intelligence, and Will decides to continue his experiments secretly. But as Caesar's intellect and abilities grow, he comes to represent a threat to man's dominion over Earth.
Rise of the Planet of the Apes is a 2011 American science fiction action film directed by Rupert Wyatt and written by the writing team of Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver. It is a reboot of the Planet of the Apes film series and its seventh installment overall. The film stars James Franco, Freida Pinto, John Lithgow, Brian Cox, Tom Felton, and Andy Serkis. In the film, Caesar (Serkis), a chimpanzee genetically enhanced and raised by William Rodman (Franco), goes from living in captivity to eventually leading an ape uprising against humanity.
Rise of the Planet of the Apes first entered development in 2006 when Jaffa and Silver wrote a spec script and sold it to 20th Century Fox, the producers and distributors of the original film series. Production struggled until Franco, Serkis, and Wyatt were hired by late 2009, and principal photography started in July 2010 and finished that September, with filming locations including Vancouver, San Francisco, and Oahu. The apes were created using extensive visual effects and performance capture commissioned by Weta Digital.
Rise of the Planet of the Apes was released in the United States on August 5, 2011, by 20th Century Fox. The film received positive reviews from critics, with praise for Wyatt's direction, visual effects, and Serkis' performance, which helped change perceptions on the recognition of acting through performance capture. Rise of the Planet of the Apes was also a commercial success, grossing over $481 million worldwide against a budget of $93 million, and received numerous awards and nominations, including nominations for Best Visual Effects and Best Special Visual Effects at the 84th Academy Awards and 65th British Academy Film Awards, respectively. It helped relaunch the franchise, and was followed by the sequels Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014), War for the Planet of the Apes (2017), and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (2024).

Chips Ahoy!!!!
Dang, now I want chips ahoy.
Mellow was sponsored you can’t convince me otherwise lol
@david4133 clearly this videos sponsor was the Most Advanced Species on Planet Earth.
Chimps Ahoy
@@TheMarvelousMmy favorite cookies!!!!!😊😊😊😊😊😊
My mom died of Alzheimers a few years ago. I can certainly relate to Will's desperation to heal his father any cost. The film captured the essence of how the mind deteriorates as the disease progresses. Eventually my mother 'forgot' how to use a fork, as well.
My mom was diagnosed with early onset last year. My heart goes out to you, I’m not ready to experience that.
I definitely understand, I just lost my mother to dementia last October….seeing her slowly deteriorate was too hard to watch. It’s a Very Surreal & Unfortunate Experience. 💜🕊️
I pray a cure can be made one day. Alzheimers is my biggest fear for myself and my family. I don't know if we'll get it, but the mystery scares me.
Sorry for your loss. And i absolutely get Will too. My dad had it (mixed with Parkinsons), he died when i was 16, now im 23. He died due to brutal bedsores that caused him sepsis in the nursing home. This film portrayed the horrible illness perfectly. The vacant look, the fight with the caretaker, him forgetting about things and so on. The scariest thing about Alzheimers is how agressively fast it progresses. I went to see my dad one time and he was still able to walk, laugh and talk with me. But then 2 weeks later, they called us and told us we should go see him because he got worse. When we got there, he looked like a whole different person. His face was insanelly skinny and sunken and he couldnt speak, he just groaned. My mom asked the nurses if he could at least recognize us and they said yes, although im not sure he could. 2 days later he died, but at least i got to see him before that. Alzheimers is horrible disease and i hope we can find cure to it, amongst many other horrible diseases.
My father passed away on Monday May 20. I watched this movie a few days ago. This movie had me in crying so much. I watched the other two movies right after. Masterpiece trilogy, storytelling. I was my fathers caregiver and the Alzheimers part of the story hit home
26:12 I love how they used the reference. It’s like it was used for humor and it dropped the audience’s guard and then the “NO!” comes in and surprises everyone
The way the audience fell absolutely silent in shock when they had just been laughing a second before. That was a cinematic moment of history
The “No” is also reference to the originals! The Apes’ Scrolls tell of how Ceaser stood up and told the humans “No”
Agreed!
Buck the Gorilla took multiple bullets to the chest and still managed to bring down the helicopter. Rest in peace Buck. And Cesar's " NOOOOO!!!!" Was breath-taking. Never heard silence in the theater like that.
Would’ve been so cool seeing that effect on the audience in person. I also heard that everyone went silent in The Dark Knight when Joker said “LOOK AT ME”
I definitely need him to watch the whole movie series.
Underrated detail about these movies is that Koba isn't a chimp; he's a Bonobo (very close cousin), and Bonobos famously have much calmer dispositions than chimps. Caesar tries to be the trusting diplomat and social one, and Koba is very angry and violent.
The Wahlberg Movie was a remake/reimagining that was supposed to make enough money to warrant a franchise. But, thankfully, the cancellation of that franchise led to the major one we see today!
Have also heard that the ending was supposed to be closer to the original book ending - which is interesting imo, and shows how not every adaptation needs to follow close to it's source material especially if the adaptation could help update things that the source material would need.
Hell yeah. One of the greatest movie trilogies of all time
How is it a trilogy if there's 4 movies?
@@WhatHappeneduhh They say Kingdom of the planet of the apes is the first part of a new trilogy, but the Caesar story is its own trilogy. Yknow like how star wars is structured with seperate trilogies
@@WhatHappeneduhhsplitting hairs. Calm down
@@WhatHappeneduhh The same way Star Wars is a series of 3 trilogies and also a 9-movie saga.
Pretty basic stuff.
The recent trilogy is still my favorite trilogy of all time tbh
Do u plan on watching the new one?
@@alexdetweiler418 Already watched it. Didn’t have too high expectations but it was pretty good. Looking forward to how they continue with this new trilogy
fr first 3 is my favourite trilogy but new one is a good set up for a new series of films for sure
Same. It’s literally the perfect trilogy imo. So incredible.
Trust me, if I was immune, I would learn sign language quick and hope Caesar lets me stay with them. I would be much safer as long as my room isnt anywhere near Koba 😭😅
My grandfather is 96 and has memory loss along with full blindness, it is sad to see him helpless, he doesnt remember any of his children or grandchildren or his name however he does remember one thing: My grandmother who passed away 30 yrs ago. He remembers her so well, he remembers how they met, where they met, how he fell for her and married her.
Thank you for inserting the original clip from "Escape the Planet of the Apes!! Not many know that connection between this and the original series.
If that was an accident and you sincerely haven't seen the original series, HIGHLY recommend that you do! I did a rewatch recently and they were still a lot of fun and plenty fun ways it connects to these new series!
I'll bet his editor did that.
Every time I watched Malfoy bully Caesar I kept mumbling "You wouldn't be so tough if Hermoine was here...." 🤣🤣🤣
And when he lashed out always end sentence I muttered Pottah 😂😂😂😂
my ass thought that said harambe
@@davidmadureira45 🤣🤣🤣 I cant tell if thats better or worse!
andy serkis did do all the motion capture for caesar - including when he was a child!
34:20 The 2001 Tim Burton 'Apes' movie is like a stand-alone, reimagining of the 1968 original. It's not a continuation.
So happy you reacted to this! I highly recommend you react to the original.
Say what you want about that movie but that ending was wild
I love not only your genuine appreciation of film but also how much you bring attention to and give major props to a musical score. Keep it up Mellow.
3:08 I can’t believe you have a clip from Smosh! 😅😅
Andy Serkis did kid Caesar in addition to teen Caesar, but if you really want to know how it goes down, I recommend you watch Corridor Crew's latest video that breaksdown the trilogy series' incredible visual effects.
Bro had me dying with the chips ahoy shi 😂😂
23:22 “Apes stupid” took me TF out 😂😂
This is one of the best sci fi series of the century. It hits on all fronts: Writing, effects, acting, series arc (they get better after this one).
Can't wait to see the new one.
Hi Mel!
Rewatching this reminded me how irritating some of these characters were. The bumbling scientist, the greedy executive and the entitled neighbor. I get there's a theme to it, but I totally forgot about them until I watched it again.
Also, now I gotta go buy Chips Ahoy...
i love how he be voicing over parts of movies it be funny asf
its annoying sometimes but yeh..funny
20:00 My grandpa had Alzheimer's and since I lived with him, I used to take care of him. I live almost that same experience from the scene, is absolute heartbreaking to see these people, the little times they are "conscious" they beg for death because they realize the situation they are in. It's so fking sad.
I have stage two Alzheimer’s and my dad died with stage 4 I believe.. some days my wife has to remind me to eat and hydrate… this movie made me cry.. I miss my dad..
I love you bro
@@HelloMellowXVI love you too man. Be safe in everything you do
Hey mello great reaction as always never seen planet of the apes thanks for letting me watch it with you freind its nothing but love
Good to see you learning about your ancestors
AMAZING trilogy!! Hope you watch the rest of it cause it 100% gets better and better!
My personal ranking:
1. Dawn
2. War
3. Rise
To answer your question, the Tim Burton version is a remake of the original.
I can’t stand that one. It was too cartoonish. Or like a live stage play.
Yo that Chips Ahoy segment had me in tears! lol
Looking back at this movie, it's extremely heartbreaking how Buck was treated by the sanctuary. IRL, how he's treated there should have gotten that place shut down! :(
I thinks the 3rd installment is the best - War of The Planet of The Apes.
Great story, lovable charactes and lots of action.
I honestly can’t wait to watch these movies with my daughter gotta give her a couple of years but I think she’ll enjoy them all the movies are awesome to me
Killed it on your last stream bro, can’t wait for the next sims stream!
I'm glad you noticed that Rocket is always swinging his arms lmao. He does that in every movie. You know it's Rocket in the whole group shots when you just see that one ape swinging his arms around.
your commentary for the apes had me rolling😂
Oh yes, It's time to movie here!
I never thought you'd put this up and I'm so glad and definitely hope we can see the others movies cause they definitely get better even if you seen them id still love to watch them ❤
Love watching you man! keep up the good work and remember to pace yourself 🙌🏼🥰
While I never saw the Other Movies and I only saw glimpse of the Burton Version, I have to say that the Reboot has one of the Best Trilogies of all Time that I saw all of them in Theaters, Rise is a Film that shows the Methods of Animal Cruelty, how can one Person that will make a Drug to save a Loved One can make a Selfless Sacrifice that can bring Negative Consequences, and the Blind Negreting Greed of Humans Experimenting that their Actions will affect the World with Negative Consequences, it’s not the Fall of Humanity but more of Cesar Rising to become the Leader he was meant to be but not out of Hatred but a Strong Passion to find a Home were he can Belong with a Emotional and Tragic Feeling with a Amazing Casting Choices, however with many of the Apes infected by the Gas and the Disease spreading by a Drop of Blood, it will challenge both species going forward, also love the Support for my Favorite Cookies, Chips Ahoy.
I legit watched all 3 movies yesterday 😅🤣
"He said 'no'."
I loved that clip from Escape from the Planet of the Apes! If you've not seen the original 5 films, do check those out! I believe Rise is supposed to be a remake of Conquest of the Planet of the Apes, which comes after Escape.
All hail the great CAESAR💚
This is an amazing trilogy, Caesar💚 is the best!!! ...love him to bits, hes a way better leader then most human leaders today. Hope u react to the other two.Caesar only bit the finger, it was still attached so that mean neighbour was lucky.
Notice after all hes been through, Caesar has no first instinct or intention to kill humans or hurt people, just to free his apes. He never even killed the nasty Draco, he killed himself out of stupidity. Also the apes didnt kill any innocents, they just trashed a few offices and scared people tbf. You can see how heartbroken Caesar was to reject his human dad after he turned his back, its clear how hard it was for him & he continued using his window as his symbol on street signs afte r escaping. I always root for the apes, animals are true to their nature, & we betray ours.
Also, Caesar can be infected again, so he also get even smarter when inhaling the 1.13 virus too, plus Caesar is way more intelligent since he had a proper human childhood education from Will.
I love how they portray him as a possible antagonist. How he seems like he’s done with all of this shit. Only for him to take a much more non lethal approach for freedom. When I first watched it. I was like. This is gonna get bloody
This was a loose remake of Conquest of the Planet of the Apes, which has different reasons for the same conclusion, but is VERY Bloody (for the classic movies). It even has Roddy MacDowell who played Cornelius from the original to play Caesar.
@@TheMarvelousM thanks for the tip. I’ll definitely binge the older movies
Bro I just watched this movie like 2 hours ago 😂😂💪🏾
The editing on this one was SUPER good, props to your editor!
Your commentary for this movie was absolutely hilarious. I hope you continue this series.
The amount of references this reboot series has in honour of the original films is unreal. It seriously gives me chills. I can’t express enough how much I seriously love this franchise
I really love this one but damn the next one is incredible. I think its easily my favorite.
Brian Cox is the guy that plays the ape conservation director - he also played the Chief in "Super Troopers", and is fantastic in "The Autopsy of Jane Doe"
I literally just finished re-watching all 3 parts the past 2 days😂 cause I want to see the part that just came out. But absolutely love your reactions and commentary😂 keep it up!
The Mark Wahlberg Planet of the Apes movie is just a standalone remake, Dawn and War are continuations after Rise
Love this movie, love you reacting to it keep it up man👍
My favorite from the new trilogy is Dawn. My favorite POTA movie of all time is Escape from the Planet of the Apes. It's just so emotional and funny. I love Zira and Cornelius 😢❤
33:56 this piece of music sound like music score of the first thor movie the music title is "earrh to asgard"
Cuz is the same composer "Patrick Doyle"
And he composed HP goblet of fire too
I absolutely LOVE these movies. I’m so glad your video popped up on my feed 😊
Cool reaction. That idiot neighbor leaving keys in car, front door open you commented on. I think Will's house & neighbor's house was supposed to be in Pacific Heights.
A fairly ritzy area in S Francisco. Also read the novelizations.
Andy Serkis gives an amazing performance as Caesar! i recommand you do the reaction on Dawn and War next. And don't forget Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is coming out next month.
This is the movie that people take notice of the planet of the apes franchise again and set us on the path of an awesome trilogy.
We don’t talk about the mark walburg joint 😂
Ceaser in the Original movies, is the Son of the Dr Apes, they went back in time and he was born on earth, then he started the Ape Uprising.
This film is scattered with references to the original films!
Roddy McDowell was fantastic!
Even worse, since Caesars mom Bright Eyes had the ALZ112, she would’ve comprehended them shooting at her but being confused because she was just protecting her baby almost at the intelligence level of a human
I love these movies, and I am so happy they went back to it and made Kingdom. Can't wait to see it!!
I can't wait to see your reaction on 2nd and 3rd movie is my fav 🫶🏽
John Lithgow is great in everything, and this is no exception.
1:26 I agree some animals are endangered like elephants
17:12 after seeing the new pota thats exactly how it was but reversed 😂
Underrated trilogy. Love this series
Now I need you to translate all the sign language in every movie ever
My favorite trilogy! Keep rewatching the greatness of Caesar and his aura develop gang!
I always love it when Mel voice-over Animals 😅
Hilarious 😆😆
My favourite Apes movie is Dawn, which isn't just my favourite in the trilogy, but my favourite movie of all time. It's just perfect.
Please do the next ones!
This was so good ❤
Agghhhh! This trilogy is one of the best ever! Not even any of the movies disappoints!
I remember this fight between Caesar and Malfoy the first time. The theaters went on cheering in the 2011 release. But when the moment Caesar said "NO!", the entire theater went dead silent. What an amazing moment!
Damn I’m early
Bro when he added the smosh cut scene😭
Which one? The do*che-board or bawsh*t?
Definitely hope you watch Dawn and War, those two movies really bring Caesars story together beautifully. Glad to see this trilogy receiving more recognition and love, it honestly deserves the praise.
Yes a powerful movie l I watch my 82 year old mother dying with this condition gets me emotional . My Momma died in 2021 I miss her everyday ❤
No, poor Buck was clearly never let out of his cage.😢
That NO!! When César s Say like that it really shock me, that scene just shock me when i wacth this movie for the first time, i'm love this movie soo much this movie it's the Best movie of the entire trilogy 🐵🦍🦧
Literally one of my favorite trilogies so well done, you gotta watch the first planet of the apes too if you haven't
Maurice and Rocket are probably some of the best supporting apes throughout this trilogy and are my favourite characters.Yes Andy did the MoCap for young Caesar and they did have to scale him down and do multiple takes of scenes with and without him
I love the reboot that is Rise, Dawn, War and now Kingdom. I adore Caesar played to perfection by Andy Serkis he is the best character ever written. I love Noa too from Kingdom Owen Teague did a fantastic job using the motion capture. I hope Noa turns up again in the next instalment . I strongly believe these movies are masterpieces and are my top 4 movies ever in cinema. Rise, Dawn, War & Kingdom are criminally underrated and unappreciated but not everyone can appreciate great movie making it seems. To bad they’re missing out. Seeing as this is a rewatch will you be rewatching Dawn and War too? they take the trilogy and the franchise to a whole new level but my personal fave is Rise. Take care 😘🏴 #ApesTogetherStrong ❤️ #TeamCaesar ❤️ #TeamNoa (Kingdom) ❤️
This ain’t even Gucci 😂😂😂😂😂
34:25 Remake. But Charlton Heston guest stars in in for one scene
And Linda Harrison for a breif cameo as the same character when Mark Wahlberg first asks what's happening.
You’re right about the music fitting the vibe.
Patrick Doyle who also composed Thor, Frankenstein, and Cinderella. (Comment what other scores I missed)
I wish he stuck around for the rest of the trilogy
❤❤❤❤
. This is a sad and beautifull movìe. Caeser was smart from the 112 passed from his mother but when he gave 113 to the other apes and inhaled it himself thats when he spoke. Altzeimers is a the most cruel disease, and yes one would do anything to help their loved ones especially a parent. Your reaction on this was so good Mello loved it Needed to get back to this for a break because i am all Simmed out at the minute lol😅. So until the next one 💜
i spent my day off binging Mellverse videos, i come back from getting dinner, and there's a new upload?? 🙏
Sometimes, destiny strikes.
Im glad you are doing rewatches. the meta has become First time Watching, but I don't care if a reactor has watched something before. At least you are honest that you've seen it before. I've noticed alot of reactors seem like they have seen something before or at least know of it but they have to pretend they know nothing about it.
sometimes movies are better if you've seen them before and you pick up on things you didn't notice the first time.
My favorite reference is when the space ship Icarus was said to have gone missing. That’s the same ship from the first Planet of the Apes.
"he got on fake Gucci y'all" hahahah
One of the funniest episodes you’ve done
Buck the gorilla, Literally went Buck wild protecting Ceasar 🙊
Of the three I like Dawn the best, but they're all excellent, and I like that they're different types of movie: a sci-fi movie, a post-apocalyptic thriller, and a war movie.
The missing aircraft ties into the original POA. They sent a non infected ape in space, it gets lost, and comes down to earth a little later after the astronauts. Ceasar was a great leader, because he was a genius at chess. The virus became air borne and affected humans and apes. Humans got dumb, some died. Apes got smarter.
lets watch the 2 and 3rd one
I just subbed to your channel because you rewatched Rise. I hope you rewatch Dawn and War next because they raise the bar even higher with those two movies. 😘🏴 #ApesTogetherStrong ❤️ #TeamCaesar ❤️ #TeamNoa (Kingdom) ❤️
Man you know those cops are pissing their pants when all they. Can hear in the distance beyond the fog is pissed off Ape's 😂
