It's an excuse to see giant robots punching giant kaiju, that's all it is and that's all I need. It's a pity they didn't make a sequel...because no sequel exists, don't bother searching.
My friends and I actually got talked into an early screening of this from our local movie theater. We never heard of it but we heard free movie and we were all for it. WE WERE NOT DISAPPOINTED! This was just a fun movie that felt like a classic mecha anime and it was just fun coming in with zero expectations. I haven't seen the 2nd one and won't because of what I hear. This movie will always have a special place in my heart
The reason the cgi looks so good is because Guillermo Del Torro was smart by making the battles happen during night or in darkness, which is a common way to cover up any shortcomings in the cgi. Rain and water helps as well with the added benefit of showing the scale.
It makes me laugh to see him flicking through getting the point of the movie and not getting the point of the movie. It goes from "that dialogue could have been better" to "oooo thats so coool" 😂
The reason why Otachi and Leatherback easily beat Cherno, Typhonn, and Stryker is because of Newt drifting, newt drifting allowed him to gain intel, but also allowed the Kaiju to get intel on the Jaegers and how to counter them, before they'd usually just try and maul and tear the jaegers apart, now they know to go for the head. It's also the reason why leatherback is a tank and has an EMP (to counter the Jaegers and a tank like Cherno) And with Otachi having acid to stun the jaegers and damage their systems, while having a tail to counter crimson typhoon.
I fell in love with this this movie because of the giant robots and Kaijus, the acting weeeeeell, like you pointed out they couldve done a lot better. Guess since I grew up watching Voltron and all those other old giant robots and monster shows when I was young. The Johnny Dangerously edit was classic, me and my sis always use the "ONCE, ONCE" line
Yeah, I can agree it's a B- movie, but it's an A++ rollercoaster ride. And yeah, there were figures sold of both the Kaiju and the Jaegers, I've got a seven inch Cherno Alpha myself.
I love the action in this movie, especially the camerawork. Well, the CGI camera for the action. They "grounded" the camera as if it was a real camera from either the ground perspective from the low angle shots, or if they did high angle shots they made it feel like a helicopter shot. It really put you into the world and made the Jaegers and Kaiju feel huge and real. Unfortunately that was lost in the second movie. The second movie the camera felt like just a floating camera in most of the shots, and so it just felt like a video game CGI cinematic instead of trying to replicate something real.
the movie's acting is actually quite good for what they're doing; the plot is basic, the graphics are amazing, the practical effects are PHENOMENAL, and the script is fun to play with. no character here is under acting or overacting. they're playing their characters EXACTLY how they are, and how they should be.

"I'm surprised they never made movies like these before." Well, there are a lot of anime titles of course, where this movie got the inspirations from, but there is also an American sci-fi movie called Robot Jox back in 1990. I'm convinced that Pacific Rim took inspiration from that too because they had a similar way to pilot the mechs :D
The thing with the sword is that kaiju blood is very toxic to humans which is why they use heated weapons to caterize the wound so the sword is a last ditch effort
Saw this in the theater and was so fricking awesome! Yeah, not the best story or acting, but I went to see giant stompy robots fighting kaiju and was not disappointed. XD
I remember watching pacific rim back in 2013 when I was in middle school the iconic fight scene was Otachi vs gypsy this what actually started the Godzilla universe in 2014
11:07 you should check him out in the tv series “Sons of Anarchy”. Really good series with him & Ron Perlman. 11:46 he’s probably always been on the move like a wanderer since his brother died and it’s second nature to have the bag. 12:05 as you’ll find out later he’s like her father. 26:25 because the doctor drifted with the kaiju brain they know all the defenses the human race has (at least what his knowledge was) and could create a kaiju to defeat them. 36:13 I do like the second one because it was interesting how they brought the kaiju back.
You really need to put 'Pan's Labyrinth' on your list, such a great movie. Del Toro always manages to absolutely draw you in, whether it's action, drama or fantasy. Pacific Rim is, in my opinion, an almost perfect action movie. Sure, the acting is a bit clunky and the plot not really watertight, but that's not what the movie is. It's a campy, over the top, visually awesome, action packed smack down deluxe and they completely leaned into it. It's a grade A action flick and doesn't claim or want (or need) to be anything more.
First one is better. And I like Gypsy Danger better than Gypsy Avenger. Even though Avenger is updated and digital, something about Danger just makes it more appealing.
Probably that Danger feels and fights like an actual physical machine made up of 7 skyscrapers worth of steel instead of just a fancy big power ranger megazord.
Cherno Alpha (The big old MKI Jaeger that got double teamed had no escape pods, or any means of escape really because of the pilots doctrine, They would rather go down with the ship, (Die fighting) than escape, escape was seen as cowardice by them.
If you don't drink or something of that nature , you can be with someone who drinks - of course , someone not willing to stop for various reasonings is an addict I'm pretty sure (closely) by definition 🤷🏿♂️ . There's sacrifices and benefits to literally everything .
16:25 I don't think you're thinking about their connection properly. Going through the drift those two are already closer and no more about each other than people that have been married for 60 years. So what you're telling me is if somebody essentially called your wife a dog saying that she should be kept on a leash, you'd just let him say that? I'm sorry if it's childish but the problem with people like that is that they would never punched in the mouth. It may be childish for protect your family but I'll happily be a child if it means protecting or putting down someone that insults or hurts my family. All that aside though, I think it's funny that you say it's cheesy when this movie is a love letter to Old Mecha anime. A ton of references. The story solid, the designs and action is peak and this is a well-loved monster movie. Hell this movie's better than Godzilla 2014 and King of the monsters because they lean in to what people want to see with these movies and it's the fights. When they put the fights up they put them up and make them look good. Rather than with Godzilla and King of the monsters constantly cutting away and hiding the fight. And always putting in them at night. In this one they have night fights but they're always lit up in some way. Godzilla 2014 just dropped the ball and everything along with King of the monsters. The story and the characters were basic and the fights were even worse. Kong skull Island they did real well and Godzilla versus Kong and Godzilla x kong are peak Kaiju movie. They both remind me of the older Kaiju movies that we don't see enough of anymore
8:46 or maybe... it looks that way because Charlie is from Newcastle and Rinku is from Kanagawa, both places with heavy British and Japanese accents, and they are trying their best to emulate the dullest of accents in English there is. And yeah, some characters are over the op with exaggerated funny acting but thats just cause this is a love letter to old Mecha and Kaiju movies that did it before.
This movie is just fun, doesn’t need great acting or plot, its solid. Too bad there isnt a sequel, i heard of a fan made movie called uprising but its not a sequel
26:45 lol I love your channel Mell But I always think it's funny that TH-camrs always miss the reason why they don't use bladed weapons and instead they either beat the Kaiju to death or use plasma weapons that burn the blood. Reason why is because Kaiju blood is insanely toxic like it's worse than nuclear waste. So therefore they don't want to get that on land especially in the water. Not only that mako is struggling to stay in the drift so she might have forgotten about it till then and the main character because I don't feel like trying to remember how to spell his name, probably wasn't briefed on the upgrades because of all the stuff that was going on. So he didn't know about it. But anyway at least that high in the atmosphere it wouldn't matter using it because the stuff would burn up on reentry. And later on when they used it it was better to do what they had to do and they didn't really have too much of another choice underwater, but it was better to use that and get that nuke into the breach to stop it, rather than not destroy the breach and this stuff continue. Because after that they would have no more jagers to defend the world. Because it takes a while to build them, and the Kaiju were coming through the portal faster and faster.
This was so good but it never became great . Loved it nonetheless. Kaijus and robots fighting with real enthusiasm and great cgi for that time so yeah perfect entertainment 😂❤

Wild to this day the CGI comparison to the latest flash CGI is mad fuckin crazy
Remember when they really tried using the vfx as a way to deflect from Ezra's bs? 😂😂😂
When you actually put love and care into a project instead of just trying to make Space Jam 2 but for DC characters.
@@billbill6094 damn, I liked Space Jam 2.
Directed by the one and only Guillermo del Toro!
Also the creator of ‘Pan’s Labyrinth’ and ‘Pinocchio’
And also The Shape of Water
@@sugarplumsoda
Love that movie. The cinematography and camera movement is soothing!
It's an excuse to see giant robots punching giant kaiju, that's all it is and that's all I need. It's a pity they didn't make a sequel...because no sequel exists, don't bother searching.
A sequel would have been great man.😢it is what it is.
There’s a sequel you can watch. Since you wanna pretend
they did make a sequel and it sucks.

@@bernadineshelbourne8915 theres an on-going joke that uprising doesn't exist
Dude.....Imagine watchin this when it was first released
My friends and I actually got talked into an early screening of this from our local movie theater. We never heard of it but we heard free movie and we were all for it. WE WERE NOT DISAPPOINTED! This was just a fun movie that felt like a classic mecha anime and it was just fun coming in with zero expectations. I haven't seen the 2nd one and won't because of what I hear. This movie will always have a special place in my heart
damn bro its so rare to see movies like pacific rim CGI now😔
The reason the cgi looks so good is because Guillermo Del Torro was smart by making the battles happen during night or in darkness, which is a common way to cover up any shortcomings in the cgi. Rain and water helps as well with the added benefit of showing the scale.
This DelToro took all the tropes from all the giant robot/monster animes and made a movie out of it. Its more of an homage.
i love how this movie makes any grown man feel like a child
his reactions were so child like its wholesome
YES!!! One of my favorite movies of all time! Cant go wrong with a giant robot suit😭
Cherno Alpha crew is rocking that Platinum Blonde hair. I am so fuckin jealous.
best part was the longest neural handshake
Watching this in 4D was one of the best experiences ever
Kaiju blood is toxic which was established in the beginning of the movie. Sword is used for last resort since it spreads a bunch of blood.
The animated Pacific Rim Show is amazing. I highly recommend you to watch it.
Hell yeah, one of my favourite movies and so sad they didnt make another one.
*partly inspired by Neom Genesis Evangelion
During the sword scene, I screamed in the theather "OF COURSE THEY HAVE AF UCKING SWORD!" Then i remembered I was in public. I was so in that scene.
I'm been hoping to see another reaction to pacific rim, thank you
I love your reactions, bro. Your intro is legendary, you’re amazing at editing, you have a studio, and best of all, you are so fucking funny!
I remember seeing this in theaters, still my favorite movie for 11 years
Yeah, I can agree it's a B- movie, but it's an A++ rollercoaster ride.
And yeah, there were figures sold of both the Kaiju and the Jaegers, I've got a seven inch Cherno Alpha myself.
30:26 Mako looks at Stacker like her dad because she sees him as her father.
Off base she calls him father.
Ninja Assassin from 2009, its some good fun.
helldivers 2 has very similar music and has humanity fighting against robots and giant bugs. I would definitely recommend it
They dont use swords much cuz kaiju blood is poisonous
One of the BEST movies period.
As a kid who grew up on Kaiju movies, I was so freaking happy to see this in theaters
This is a big dumb monster movie. I LOVE IT!!! Went to see it opening night at the cinema.
I honestly LOVE this movie so much 😍
I love this movie watched it many times and will keep watching. Also i think the acting and story is good
Great film and Great Reaction! Sucks we never got a sequel to this underrated masterpiece!
the movie's acting is actually quite good for what they're doing; the plot is basic, the graphics are amazing, the practical effects are PHENOMENAL, and the script is fun to play with. no character here is under acting or overacting. they're playing their characters EXACTLY how they are, and how they should be.
This movie was the best 3D IMAX experience ive ever had.
Guillermo Del Toro really went to work on this movie and he made it a massive hit.
Loved your reaction. You should watch society of the snow. It's a great movie and I would love to hear what you have to say about that one

12:17 Exactly man. Each of us has secrets we will take to the grave. So who the heck would be willing to let another human being see their entire life story and thoughts?

This actually a faithful live action version of an anime story. which is why it seems simple or weird at times.

"I'm surprised they never made movies like these before."
Well, there are a lot of anime titles of course, where this movie got the inspirations from, but there is also an American sci-fi movie called Robot Jox back in 1990. I'm convinced that Pacific Rim took inspiration from that too because they had a similar way to pilot the mechs :D
I love these new intros so much lmfao 😂
The thing with the sword is that kaiju blood is very toxic to humans which is why they use heated weapons to caterize the wound so the sword is a last ditch effort
I used to love this movie when I was 11-12 years old

Same when my aunt and her boyfriend going to my home and brought a good quality dvd for like 1 dollar

There was one Jaeger that was shut down because it tortured kaiju, that Jaeger was Blackout Ecilpse
This movie is tight but sweater is right!
Here - I brought you nachos
It'll take about 10 category 5 Kaiju to stand a chance against Godzilla.
Amazing reaction! If i may, I highly recomend society of the snow
I would LOVE to see you react to Pan's Labyrinth, Del Toro's best movie to date.
There is a similar movie…it’s called Robot Jox, but it’s a person vs a person in the machines
Who pooped in your cornflakes?
Dude just enjoy the movie.
LOVE the sweatshirt! 😅
Armored core 6 is basically this movie as a video
They waited to use the sword because it would've spilled the toxic kaiju blood all over the city.
When I saw this in theaters and they showed that Seattle was destroyed, everyone in the theater as laughing, and I shouted, "Hey, come on!" XD
@@billbill6094 ya, probably
he should TOTALLY react to Hoodwinked hehe
Cherno Alpha (The big old MKI Jaeger that got double teamed had no escape pods, or any means of escape really because of the pilots doctrine,
They would rather go down with the ship, (Die fighting) than escape, escape was seen as cowardice by them.

@@haabat1342 hell yeah
Oh they're finally making one?
2:00 There used to be a Pacific Rim game in the App Store but that was years ago.
Sucks they never made a sequel
