downsouth-expeditions.creator... The 2019 Ford Ranger is overall a fantastic mid size truck and that comes with its perks. The Ford
Ranger has fords 10 speed auto transmission and a 2.3L Ecoboost engine.
My Ranger has now 30,000 miles on it and I have loved every mile!
Overall If you are in the market for a mid size truck I think the ranger would be great for you. Compared to other competitors the Ranger is much quicker and more responsive even with the turbo charged in line 4 cylinder engine.

Idk, I think the FX4 package is worth it if you are going to do even light off roading. The skid plates and locking rear differential make it worthwhile for $1,300

Appreciate the upload! Clearly answered my questions about bumping up in tire size. Really want to bump up to 35’s and a 6” lift but sounds like I may regret that since I do have a lot of stop and go traffic here in California. Until gears are available I wonder if that transmission tune would help significantly with that. Also a big thanks for listing all your parts in the description! A very helpful touch that not enough people do.

Great video! Even though I'm not interested in lifts, or oversize tires, it was good to see someone that works the Ranger and hasn't had problems. In 2015, I bought a new Colorado Z-71, by 24,000 miles sold it due to transmission quirks, truck was junk. I might look into a Ranger, thanks.

@@downsouthexpeditions2956 True story, after dealer supposedly updated computer, the Colorado needed to "Learn" my driving style. Wife and I did a road trip to the Eastern Sierras via Death Valley. All paved. At approximately 65 mph, on a paved road highway, but not interstate so the gradient was steeper, the Colorado downshifted and the rpm headed to redline. Driver behind almost rear ended me. I pulled over. Started up again, farther down mountain, same thing happened. Pulled over, turned off truck, started back down slower at 50 mph and let others pass. There must be bad angle, speed, torque sensors in the system because EVERY time I went around a corner even in town the transmission would get lost. Around a city street corner, heading uphill, the Colorado went nuts. Thanks again, have a good weekend!

Will smoke a Colorado or Taco on street, sand, or dirt

My 2017 Ford Raptor did the same as well with the gear hunting. It’s no big deal, but it’s mainly in stop and go traffic and around town. You can take it in to Ford and they can flash your transmission. The 10 speed trans is always learning your driving style.

'19 Sport with 17K (factory stock) - I don't have the hesitation going into gear (I do live in Phoenix, however), but I agree that the shift points of the trans mesh poorly with the 2.3L overachiever engine. I also have a '19 Lincoln MKC with the 2.0L and a six speed auto. That engine/trans combo work much better together. They actually feel like the stronger combo even though both components are inferior. The shift points, mushy feeling brakes, and rough ride are my only complaints (so far). Planning on leveling with new lifted struts and back shocks when the stock tires wear out. Too cheap to cough up for the Fox. Considering the Eibach or Rancho. I've heard many positives about the Eibach. Any thoughts on the Rancho anyone? 23/23 MPG all day everyday.

    • @downsouthexpeditions2956

The 2 leaf springs is better than a stack of 5 for handling and ride and it still carries the same load this is new technology Toyota has followed Ford in this and is now using his on the Hilux range. This type of leaf spring reduces the skipping you get after hitting a sharp bump and it settles down faster. Sure you can spend a lot more money and change the suspension to fit your needs.

Unfort;unately, when you state the transmission is the largest complaint I can't agree nor do Ranger forums. My dealer is very large and the service mgr has never seen a 10-speed in the shop - I asked. I will just echo his comment - the 10-speed is indestructible. Larger tires may contribute to any concern you personally have. The 10-speed is one of the best features of the truck and is used throughout various Ford and GM lines. I'd say the issue most complained about is the shocks and the "floaty" ride. New (different) rear shocks are a fix that although I have not replaced mine so the comment is not mine. There is nothing wrong with single leaf rear springs either although I'd like to see coils. I also have an '19 FX4 with 27,000 miles. No problem what-so-ever with the truck and none with the transmission in the cold weather I experience - minus 10-15. Tow 5K pounds several times/year long distances and don't know the load is back there - MPG is 16-17. W/out a tow is 24-26.

@@t_c5266 Normally I'd agree, particularly if asking a salesman. My dealer (4th largest in the U.S.) is a close family friend and 4th generation dealer. We have VERY frank discussions about products good and bad (he owns 7 dealerships at last count). In fact, he asked me to manage one of his dealerships which I declined for personal reasons. I also know his main tech - not the service mgr, the tech - very well at the home dealership. They know I will call them out if I catch them in a lie, and my return business would be questionable. I've also approached ownership knowing vehicles today are complex and there will be problems at some point - I want to know what I should watch for. When you marry up the tech's response with problems cited on forums there is a good understanding of things that MIGHT go wrong in the future. For example, my Ranger is a very early '19. Forums indicated several things to watch for in those early trucks. Prior to picking up my truck (ordered in Dec, picked up in March) I provided the tech a list of these issues others had experienced. The only thing found was the bed was out of alignment 1/8", so small I'm surprised they mentioned it. I told them to leave it but it does reflect the level of detail and confidence it gives. BTW, the dealer warrants the engine for life and frankly my long-term concern is more with the turbo than the transmission. Although the 10-speed is relatively new it has wide-spread use in GM as well as Ford products (up to 1 ton I believe) and to date I have not heard of problems - nor has my tech friend. In 30K miles the ONLY problem I've had was my inability to update the Sync. The fix by a San Diego dealer (not my home dealer) was to replace two PIMS. Nothing mechanical so far.
