    Anybody who thinks they can modify a car and not have issues is living in La La land. I have a 2015 ecoboost premium package and left it stock im at 123k and the car is running strong. Once you tune any car your gonna have issues. If you want a reliable car just keep it stock. Want something faster just get the GT.

      You can modify it but if you expect it to not fail you can't drive it like a normal car. My Ecoboost had no real problems till the day I sold it at like sixty something thousand miles. Was tuned for E30 since like 7000 miles. Daily drove on my more conservative 370ish who tune but could get more out of it on the more aggressive map. Always made sure to let oil temp get right, address all misfires, change oil religiously and watch charge temps as well as oar. 2.3s with higher hp are super picky with gap and need to get oil to operating temp. Also you WILL get bad ethanol at some point so I always watched my oar. Not doing these things is why many people blow them up.

      Most definitely not buddy, you sound like a loser who doesn't know anything about cars. Reason why cars fail when tune is a bad tuner or a design flaw mostly with American models. The new 2.3L ecoboost is redesign to take more power. Japanese cars are great for modification and can definitely still be reliable. The honda civic Type R or the accord 2.0t can be modified to 400whp safety, some people have 500whp doing just fine.

    I am on my third ecoboost engine, I had a 2010 Flex with the 3.5 I loved driving that couch but didn't keep it long enough to develop or see any issues. I then had a 2012 Edge with the 2.0 ecopoop and I traded it at 125K miles, I had zero issues with the motor or tranny. I currently have a 2019 Ranger which is my daily driver. At 50K miles I have had (knock on my wooden head) zero issues with the 2.3. I love driving it, have driven it on many roadtrips commonly seeing 23 mpg on these trips. Main thing, like what is said in the video is quality oil. I use Mobil 1 and typically change it 50% oil life remaining, which works out to around 6K miles between changes. Have driven it with outside temps at 117 driving through Needles CA on a trip with zero issues with engine temps. All engines can have problems, the majority of these are caused by mods or lack of maintenance. Most of the sites on TH-cam like to get clicks, I have watched a ton of videos on TH-cam about many different subjects and they are typically blown out of proportion. Awesome video I really enjoyed it! I know Ford recommends changing oil every 7,500 to 10,000 miles, but I believe you could greatly reduce or eliminate lots of these engine problems by changing oil every 4-5,000 miles. If you only plan on keeping your car 60 or 80k then it probably doesn't matter. But for people who wanna go 200,000 plus, I would say 4-5,000. Your turbocharger will also last longer. And I know lots of people drive these pretty hard.

    From everything I’ve heard, if you’re not going to do series mods (CAI, stage 1 tune), the OTS tune is safe. My 2018 base modal ecoboost Mustang has no issues, and I follow my mechanic’s recommended maintenance schedule (more frequent than Ford recommended). I always use synthetic oil, and 91 octane gas (no 93 octane in Vegas valley). It’s my daily driver, so I don’t get on it all that often. When I do, I make sure to drop a gear (yes, it’s a manual) before I send it.
    Turbo cars don’t do well if you lag the engine - that is what I’ve heard in most cases of ecoboom. Like everyone in this thread said, better stock. However, if you do mod your car, take care on how you drive, and stay in top of maintenance. As for me, I’m going to install an aftermarket intercooler and swap charge piping to help the engine breathe cooler air. I may go with a custom stage 2 tune, but nothing I’ve read says it won’t do fine with a stage 1 tune.

    The mechanical malfunction of the 2.3-litre EcoBoost unit is linked to the head gasket, which fails to seal the engine block to the head correctly. Long term heat exposure warps the block preventing the head gasket from forming a watertight seal between the two engine components.

    I bought a “new old stock” 2016’ Focus RS with 105 miles in ‘18. The dealership reassured me it had a headgasket recall inspection. At 12,000 miles I went mod crazy, turboback high flow cat exhaust, mountune intercooler, mountune breather plate, Dual Radium catchcans: crank, and cam. 14psi wastegate actuator, uprated recirculating valve, mountune full intake and kn filter, mountune charge piping. A Cobb accessport and dyno tuned 360HP/410FTLBS at the wheels. Sitting at 42,000 trouble free miles today. Enjoy your vehicles however you want people. The only thing I would encourage is a crank ventilation catch can. I change oil not based on miles but seasonal, late summer and spring, pcv catchcan usually spits out 2-3oz of oil the cam vent can has never seen a drop.

    I'm living a nightmare with my 2.3 ecoboost. I saw a royal crimson mustang on the new lot in 2018 and immediately fell in love with the color. About 3 years ago I had a Cobb stage 2 kit installed (intake, intercooler, access port with stg 2 tune). Fast forward to this year at 30k miles the engine granaded itself on a usual commute. Put a new Ford longblock in it and now I feel like I can't trust this POS. I'm ready to dump it.

      Catch can is a great investment. CRC will definitely help a bit, alternatively you can just get it walnut blasted every 60-80k miles. With a catch can you won't have as much buildup and it also really doesn't affect the engines reliability, just slowly takes away some performance but I'd imagine you won't have any serious carbon buildup issues until the 100k mile mark or so.

    Seems like meth injection would resolve both the intercooler size issue and the carbon build up on intake vslves. Any thoughts?

    • @8020Media
      @8020Media  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, WMI can absolutely help in both cases but it's unlikely to totally resolve the issues. The volume and flow simply isn't enough to totally eliminate carbon build-up, but it will help slow down the process. How much it slows down depends on how often you're triggering the WMI and how much you're spraying. As for IAT, WMI will help a lot but a larger, more efficient intercooler will help further (and the benefits are constant compared to WMI which will only cool temperatures once it's actually triggered).

      @8020Media  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Todd, did you ever figure out what the issue was on your Mustang EcoBoost? The 2.3 EcoBoost is an interference engine so if the timing chain stretched, a guide failed, etc. then the pistons and valves could collide if the chain jumped enough teeth. That's a very rare and unlikely failure, though. Hopefully it turned out (or turns out) to be something much less severe.

      80k miles isn't too much to be concerned about - I'd say the main thing is just maintenance history. Make sure it's been properly taken care of, gotten oil changes on time, not tuned or beat to crap with mods, and so on. So long as it's been properly maintained and you don't notice any issues while driving you shouldn't have much to worry about. Does help if you know what you're looking at in an engine bay to inspect hoses and belts and things like that but also not something that will be a major problem if it turns out there is a bad hose or something. Make sure the turbo seems good - not making any rattling noises, boosts properly, etc.

So I had my car brought to local dealership for diagnostic. Called me a few days later said needed to pull the head to be leak checked and that would cost 1100.00. He was telling me it was necessary to get full scope of the issue and that ford will usually do a 60%-40% compensation. After the head was checked as being good ford said they couldn't provide any help because the car was 7 years old. Something they should have said in our first conversation. Now I'm getting bent over with almost 2,900. for changing the head gasket
