VIDEO DESCRIPTION:
Join Wess for a unique tour of his 2011 E450 ambulance conversion with a post-apocalyptic theme. This project is unlike anything you've seen, combining creativity and resourcefulness to create a one-of-a-kind tiny home on wheels.
Welcome to the Inside
Wess welcomes viewers into his rig, which features faux-painted interiors to look old, mildewy, and water-stained, enhancing the post-apocalyptic vibe. The backsplash is made from old signs, adding to the abstract and unique look.
Functional Kitchen
The kitchen is designed with efficiency in mind, using leftover materials from Wess's shop, Darkwolf Artisans. The countertop is made of galvanized sheet metal, offering durability and easy cleaning. Wes opted for an induction cooktop, making the kitchen entirely electric and efficient.
Custom Storage Solutions
Wess created custom storage solutions, including a small sink from a previous project and cabinets for dishes and food. He placed a fan in the kitchen to help ventilate while cooking, as the roof is covered with 1640 watts of solar panels, leaving no space for an air conditioning unit.
Innovative Air Conditioning
Wess installed a Velit under-bench air conditioning unit, running on a 24-volt system. This setup is energy-efficient, running on solar power without draining the batteries. The system can run for about 10 hours at night, ensuring comfort while sleeping.
Unique Drawer Pulls and Bathroom Design
In keeping with the theme, Wess used plastic human vertebrae as drawer pulls, adding to the post-apocalyptic feel. The bathroom features walls made from old barn tin, a galvanized sheet metal shower pan, and a Nature's Head composting toilet. A swing-out curtain rod provides privacy in the compact space.
Comfortable Living and Sleeping Area
The living area includes a military-style file cabinet, a Grizzly Cubic Mini wood stove, and storage solutions for firewood and kindling. The ceiling panels are made from canvas-wrapped plywood, adding insulation and a unique look. The bedroom features a full-size memory foam bed, storage cabinets, and a custom latching system for the under-bed refrigerator and freezer.
Creativity and Community
Wess shares his passion for creativity and the joy of living in a tiny home. He emphasizes the supportive community he has found while traveling and the freedom of living on the road. This is brilliant! First, I'd paint the exterior drab olive to go with your theme. Your approach to this rig reminds me of the way stage sets are designed and executed. I love the metal countertops. I live in a small toy hauler, and one of my favorite things is a big metal commercial cookie sheet that I use to cover the stove top. It creates awesome added counter space. I am renovating, using a theatre set approach. I've left the ramp au natural, and also love the diamond plate at the bottom. You've done an amazing job with this ambulance. I like everything about it! Thanks for the tour!

I love Ambulance to RV Conversions, however, I 100% disagree with putting the bed across the back doors from a Standpoint of Safety, in the event of a Fire in the back that would block exiting out through the side door. God forbid that should ever happen, it would greatly hamper one's effort of quickly getting out the back doors. I guess it's just the Firefighter in me, and how we were always taught to have at least 2 means of egress if something happened that required a rapid means of egress, if you need to climb over a bed, then reach down behind it to find the inside door handles, it's going to severely slow one down to get the doors open, and escape. I also disagree with completely gutting the entire rig to rebuild it. Common sense tells me if it's not broken, or causing any issues, leave it alone.
I created it so that there is access to the rear door handle from the inside. I always think of safety as well!
He can go out the front , the side or back doors
@@dianep3071 not if there is a fire up in the front of the box near the truck cab. That would prevent the ability to exit the side door, or cab, if the fire is in that area. That would only leave the rear doors as the means of exit, but if you need to climb over a bed, and then try to reach the rear door handles, that will greatly slow your exit down.

Distressed Rust with green flames
Love it, Wes! You are a talent! I like the idea of the exterior being similar to your cabinet - a drab, distressed olive perhaps with some additional features incorporated. I'm sure whatever you come up with will be fantastic. Love your work.
You need a really cool apocalyptic landscape scene painted around the outside. With the view different on each side, like you were giving a panoramic shot showing the tree line on one side and moving around to the city view on the other. Tell the story as they walk around the vehicle.

Kevin, you did a great job on everything in your rig. Impressive! Exterior color? Maybe a light to medium solid gray color…..IMO.
The question of what colour to paint the outside ,the obvious answer is multi colours paint 2 or 3 different on as a base then sand then 3 or 4 other colours over then randomly sand the clear coat and you end up with perfection
Paint it a marbled black. But make it look beat up and apocalyptic.

Hey West big fan.. of course awesome & creative, I know you've tried to do this on a budget or just use a lot things you had but it's missing only one thing... one of 6" Ujoint 4wd upgrades.. it would put it over the top & you'd be able really get to some awesome back places... really admire you work & creativity & thank so much for always sharing..

Nice build, I especially like the refer/freezer. I see all these people trying to build solar powered self-sufficient system's for boondocking and then stick an rv type upright refrigerator in them. the most efficient refer would be a chest type freezer with a modifies thermostat to keep it at proper temps. Eve4y time you open the door on an upright the cold air flows out the bottom and warm air comes in the top.
