"I played and know what it's like so you're wrong" isn't an argument. It's the same as Shaq's "I have rings so you're wrong." The paradox of sports is that the fans, media and commentary allow for players to get paid to do what they love. Having an opinion about a sport or player as a fan is completely valid, because your opinion and interest has an economic value (arbitrary as it may be), which literally pays these athletes to play. Athletes don’t owe any one fan anything, but they do owe the basketball community as a whole, of which they are apart of.
Players have to earn the fans respect, whether they like it or not. Kawhi does very little outside of playing ball, which is fine… but when you don’t even do that, respect fades - so does your relevance, as well as your economic worth. Wish Kawhi the best, but I’d rather see the money (we) spent on him go to a player who plays…

This is the problem with max salary and guaranteed contract. There is no market value being enforced. Every players demand max or else they wont sign. Guaranteed contract is a scam in itself. Nobody should pay for non performance. There should be incentive to winning for players, make it 40 percent guaranteed, 30 for showing up for most games prorate, and 30 for winning. This would counteract tanking to some extent

    • @sb17146

Dude got injured doing his job, Company signed him regardless of his medical history and somehow Kawhi is fleecing them? I'd understand this sentiment with Ben Simmons but not with Kawhi. He performs when he's healthy, it just so happens his body is falling apart. It was a risk from the start. There are only a handful of players that will ever sniff the contract and demanding power kawhi has, this is an anomaly at best. Look at guys like Isiah Thomas, wanted more money and teams quickly shut him down. Where is he now? In the G League making chump change. Dennis Schroder suffered a simillar fate as well.
Kawhi's contract is soley based on his body of work. Teams won't sign you top billing if you're not at that level. You make it seem like these billion dollar franchises have zero leverage in negotiations which I find comical
