Thanks for the review. Apart from the connectivity, this preamp seems to be similar to the Rheinglod BP2 pedal. How do they compare from a tonal point of view?
Genuine question though: When is something "studio grade"? What makes it that? And where is there line where something is not studio grade anymore? I feel like "studio grade" is used way too often for marketing reasons but nobody actually knows what it means beside "probably better than anything you would not use in a studio", which is..?
Quality of power supply, transformer and others composants, I guess If it is like in audiophile world the difference is real but there is a diminushing return that growth quickly after a price point
The difference is that a professional studio will allow you to scrutinize the quality of the signal at a much higher level so issues that may not be apparent in a bass rig or live become glaringly obvious in the studio. Second, when the studio is billing at hundreds of dollars per hour, having gear break down is not an option, so the quality of the parts and construction has to be at a higher level. While there are products that bill themselves as studio grade that aren't, the fact is that there tons of great pieces of gear that are studio grade that are available now that were just not on the market a few years ago, so you will see that term more often.
Seems like a JHS Colour Box, but without the plethora of features (semi-parametric eq, second Neve preamp in series for higher gain, step function, balanced in and out, etc.). The Colour Box V2 is my favourite piece of gear (without a close second), so I bet this is great, too!
The Colour Box doesn't even get close to a studio preamp sound. It drives like one but it doesn't have the same fidelity as a studio pre running at a high power setting.
I don't understand this line of products much. Do you not record with an amp? If not, if you record digitally, won't you put out a amp/cab sim + effects. How much of a difference will it make once in the mix vs other clean DI boxes? How can you hear the difference between this and let's say a a Radial DI box?
The better your recorded signal sounds, the easier it is to work with later. The difference might not seem that big in these demos, but when you're working with gear in this quality you'll have a much better workflow. Everything always sound great right out the box. This saves a lot of time in post production
What I findso difficult about pedals is that it is almost impossible to try them all out. You need to be lucky for stores to have all the pedals you wanna try in store. And ordering them all online and returning them all except one... Not very efficient. What would you recommend?
Taxes are due soon here in the US. This lovely box is a bit pricey at the moment. So I will have to remain content with a Darkglass Harmonic Boost and old Tubeworks Blue Tube for now.
Could one use this as a vocal mic preamp through the xlr in? I’m so bass a vocals and might justify the expense of it can do both. I did a vocal studio session recently that just went mic direct into the console, bypassing the eq. The sound was fantastic. Would love to replicate that in my home studio.
Is there any point in even trying to compare this (kind of) product to for example a Neural DSP Quad Cortex? Or would you use them together? If so, how? I am currently looking for a way to record bass without and amp since I cannot do that where I live, and I find particularly the Quad Cortex extremely interesting for all the Captures etc.
also shit tons of compression to meet youtube's standards and then youtube turns it into rice crispy treats and compresses it some more! and then depending on how good your DAC is on your smart thing you are watching this on even more compression! so we are lucky if we get 1/1000 of the information from the original track!
I used very gentle EQ and compression to keep the sound as original as possible. Yes TH-cam compresses, not not nearly as hard as the other guy suggests
Every time you upload a video it's "Oh boy, here I go GASing again", even with this high end studio grade stuff I have no real need for. I'd be really interested to hear this side by side with a JHS colour box, since that is also supposed to give you a 1073 strip in a pedal incorporating a transformer but with an EQ stack and HPF.
I was very excited about the Color Box and ordered v2 immediately when it came out. But I had to send it back, the input is way too sensitive. I couldn't get a clean tone out of a P-Bass when you dig in properly.
You have a graphic EQ with a volume. You have an overdrive with a volume. You have gain on your amp. Oh, you're also lucky and have 3 tone knobs on your active bass. Now, please someone explain why you also need a preamp? Don't use words like "shape" or "warmth."
sounds incredible until 6 months from now, another preamp hits the market and that will be the thing to have and caveman will be on the used market as something that sounded incredible a while back
This is shameless bass tone porn! Too many yum yum expensive pedals. Too little moola & even less time. BTW. The way you get the funk of these tone freaks though on you tube is worthy of honour. Great work! 🤌 👌 👍
That Yamaha sounds incredibly good with this.
Caveman, Frank and the BBN5 ... a pefect combination!!! Frank is such an amazing player and a pleasant person!!!
The Neve 1073 typically had the 1084 EQ in front of it, that would change your game. The Genzler re/Q would also be interesting in front the BMP.
I'm so getting this pedal!
Greetings from Uganda 🇺🇬👊🏿🖤
Wunderbar! Frank Itt amazing bassist! Nice sounds. 🎸
Why do you need the Reddi if the xlr is already in the preamp?
Love the Dean Town-ish intro !
the final direct vs bp1 test was insane :OOO
Very interesting product! My cup of tea!
Seems like a nice pre. I'm digging the blue Yamaha.
Way cool indeed warm tones of the 70's and still clean and bright!

THANK YOU !!!!!
Brother Itt is a monster!
For those who are curious...900 US dollars.
Sounds killer, wish I could afford one🥺
Holy Moly!! Thank thing sounds crazy good!!!!
This sounds really good !
Frank has the best bass 'stink face' in the industry. He rocks it hard.
What Yamaha model does frank play
Did you run the preamp into the input of the Reddi and then out?
1:47 let's go!!

sorry, but the main difference between the direct and the wet sound at the end is the irritating buzz when the preamp is engaged :(
Was thinking the same thing : great sound but BUZZ !! Why that ?!
Taxes are due soon here in the US. This lovely box is a bit pricey at the moment. So I will have to remain content with a Darkglass Harmonic Boost and old Tubeworks Blue Tube for now.
YAY GREGOR IS BACK
I never left
O OKAY
Sounds absolutely amazing 😎
I'm wondering how it is compared to the Rheingold BP-2! Can you compare them?
min.5:31 how to connect Caveman BP1 to Reddi DI BOX?
the REDDI has a link out you can connect the BP1 to
@@basstheworldofficial thanks ! out amp caveman - IN Reddi?
Between that sandberg and your di combinations you've struck gold in bass tone.
They seriously get such a great tone from that Sandberg.
What about the Nobels Preamp?

I guess you can, but it doesn’t have phantom power which excludes lots of mics
Gregor can you please tell me if the cave man BP1 goes first on the pedal board i want to put into a Line 6 pod go then other effects last Please help
I would have this one last
That Yamaha looks like a BBG5A with updated pickups, is it?
Yes
Some of the best bass tones I've heard. Want!
what does it sound like through a cheep amp? and what amp and bottom are you using?
If you're prepared to spring for this, you might want a better bass amp first. Unless you only record or tour using whatever backline is available.
The tone is your hand
Usually you’re not using an amp when you have this
Love that stank bass face! That kills me.
So it's like the Noble, another $900 DI box that's so transparent you can't even tell it's on.
wow, you talked me out of it !
I def heard a ricber, fuller, more assertive sound with maybe a touch of growl - my JBL headphones were necessary, though

You could record this parallel to the quad cortex. But if you have dialed in your sounds perfectly I don’t see much use for a studio preamp anymore
Plug the bass into the board/recorder directly
Frank Itt is the man!!!
Holy moly, selbst über TH-cam klingt das fett!
Is it only the box that we hear? No significant post processing or EQ?
If so, wow amazing!
No need for a cab sim with this thing...

Frank!!
Sounds like warm tube tones from the 70’s…loved it
I don’t need this pedal . 7:19 to 7:27 . Let’s rephrase that, I can’t afford this pedal but I really wish I could.
Amazing…😍😍✨👏👏
Френк итт как всегда бесподобен
why is this better than installing a pre amp into the bass
That’s a totally different type of preamp
Has anybody AB-ed this one with say the Lindell 80 channel?
API TranZformer!!!

Not if you like it enough to keep it
Tea, and credit card on standby.
Your Dad plays bass like a badass!
