Travis man, very helpful video. I just learned something about my AMPEG SGT-DI.... It's a great DI, very useful on stage and also I can use it for practicing solo....It mimics my old SVT amp which for many years was the gold standard for a rock bassist. I didn't quite understand the SGI controls until you clarified it for me. Very cool, thanks again! ZiggyB
Great video. I live so far out in the Stick’s, that the only way I can hear some of these products is through TH-cam videos. You do a great job of showcasing the features and sounds. Thank you! I subscribed a long time ago. Great channel!
This is great info! Since I Just started considering a DI I was unsure where to start. i'm picking up what you're putting down. This has been a big help.
I use the Revolt for a year now, I love the fact that there is an effect loop. I use mainly the clean channel that a puch or shape tone with a DCX bass from origin effect ....
I tour with R&B groups, most recently the Motown group The Miracles. I also do a lot of session work for tv and movies. The only DI I’d ever use is the Ampeg SGT for the work I do.
Currently using : The Genzler Magellan bass DI, it is the best one I have ever had, at least to me, and the close runners up to that is the Aguilar tone Hammer (which I used to own), and a Sadowsky DI, (which I sold because I put a Sadowsky onboard pre-in my jazz bass instead) The Genzler Magellan bass DI, has a vintage switch and a modern switch, the modern switch sounds very much to me like an SWR amp, or (Genzler/Genz Benz amp, and the vintage maybe sounds like a cleaner Ampeg or bassman (kinda), it has a really good and clean 4 band EQ circuit ,and it has a circuit to mildly cut out some of the sub-bass if it’s overwhelming, without sucking any tone, it literally is the cleanest sounding Bass DI , I have ever used, and it sounds very big, punchy and full at the same time. I’ve tried it all, I’ve owned a sansamp, radial tone bone, Galien Kruger DI, etc… I will never get rid of my Genzler Magellan. The basses, I play sound great through it, my Ernie ball stingray special 5, my American Deluxe Fender Jazz bass V with Bartolini pick ups and Sadowsky preamp, and G&L L2500, play and sound very well through it. The modern sound lends very well to gospel sounding stuff like (Israel Houghton) , R&B , Pop, and funk, and the vintage it’s great for rock and old Motown sounding stuff, It’s literally the jack of all trades.
Great video. The order of editing could have been a bit different with you playing the clean sounds in between the info in each DI. Then a head to head comparison of the different DI’s for one style (maybe dirty or grit) before moving to a head to head comparions of a different style. Keep it up. Your content is engaging
For me, I like the old school P-Bass into the SansAmp Bass Driver sound. It just seems to work across a lot of genres, much like the P-Bass into an Ampeg did back in the day. I’m not really a slap or a pick player, so that sound tends to work for me.
I invested in the Electro-Harmonix Battalion. Though I seldom use it as a DI, the bass preamp is pretty cool. It has distortion, compression, and a noise gate. There are options for pre- and post- for the effects; and a 4 band rotary EQ. I'd love for you to take a look at it and let me know what you think. I'm normally a bass>cable>amp kind of guy, but I do love a pedal that motivates my creativity.
Recommend including the DSM Humboldt Bass Simplifier, or dpi by a separate review. After trying some of the units in your review and more, I found the DSM most faithful to my bass tone, while still having great flavour and a super flexible function set. The ReVolt and Ampeg were great, but in my experience compromised.
If you want to get serious about tone sculpting and ultimate eq control you have to try the Bergantino Super Pre The thought of going back to having to use someone else’s EQ points they chose vs having 4 bands of fully parametric EQ and presets for different basses is where it’s at
Hey TD............I"ve been enjoying your channel and learning from you! You should check out the Aguilar Tone Hammer Pedal V2 that came out recently. I have really been liking it! It gives some great tones and some grit too! You should also check out the Aguilar AG Preamp Pedal. I haven't used the AG Preamp pedal but seems to have great clean headroom. Anyhow, I'd love to hear your thoughts on the Tone Hammer and AG Preamps!
I use 4. If I'm just playing bass I use the Noble. If I need distortion too, I'll take the 2 Notes Revolt Bass. If I need a few effects, I'll take the Zoom B6. If I am doubling on guitar, like I am on Sunday, I take the Hotone Ampero Stage.
Ive got a Rodger waters precision bass with flatwounds and a Fender Jbass with chromes and i cant decide between the ZIO and the Two note revolt, leaning towards the revolt for the extra features and such but i wanna hear more from people who have used them.
Hello Travis, thank you for this review, I imagine it was a lot of work. I have the Ampeg SGT-DI as well. At first I used the Cab SIMs but eventually preferred the cleaner sound of the just the preamp, with Ultra Lo at mis point and Ultra Hi on. For the SGT circuit, I set it up to give a very mild grit plus a volume boost for build portion of the songs. Use if for practice and performance at church and love that I can plug my iPad into it and practice each week using Multitracks and/or Musicstand. I am currently comparing it to the Augilar AG Preamp.
@@telee19 If the AG sent the aux signal though the 1/4" TS Output as well as the mini TRS Headphone output, I would prefer it over the SGT-DI. I use this circuit path often to practice along with prerecorded music on my bass amp at home. I like that the AG is smaller than the SGT-DI, taking up less space on my pedalboard. The AG is a very clean sound and I do like it a lot. Please understand, I do like the SGT-DI as well. You cannot go wrong with either.
@@anthonyhall9453 question, on the AG, does it send through XLR and headphones at the same time? I am thinking of using the headphones as monitor when send signal to the house.
Those appear to me as more preamp than DI. Or preamps that have an XLR output, and probably line level. I use the Tone Hammer preamp btw. For DIs, I'd expect things like Radial, Countryman, and perhaps the Noble. Although the Noble one is more of an in-betweener.
I have the Bassrig SV and it’s incredible! The BP must be at least as good as those other pedals- not sure how he got such a lifeless sound out of it (!)
Love my NUX Melvin Lee Davis NBP-5 Dual Switch Bass Pedal Bass Preamp,DI box,Impulse Response (IR) Loader,Audio Interface in one. Pretty much set it and forget it with the IR on. I play funk, hip hop and RB.
@@joshdennis1 I rarely use that feature because I have a dedicated pedal for that. I find it kind of odd that most bass DIs come with an over drive or distortion built in. My goal with my DI pedal is to have my sound no matter what front of house system I’m plugged into. It’s last on my pedal board chain of course.
I’m a ampeg player and been wanting this one, but I usually have the sound guy run Di out of my SVT so idk if I need this or not, someone feel free to sell me on it, please lol
I would like to see a video on creating bass content to push us small guys out a lil more. I be watching tik tok videos and it makes me wonder how they get the sound to come out so clean
Yea you miss the GK plex!!👌🏽🔥🔥 Although you have mention it before To me is the best for neck trough basses You need a review of types of basses like necktrough, 2pcs, etc, or type of wood wich I also think change your tone and reacts different with your Di I found out that my necktrough basses works better with the Gk plex And the ampeg sgt with maple body Blessings!!🙋🏻♂️
Bass di shootout. Let's go! I copped the walrus audio Badwater recently and dig it a ton. Really want the GK Plex. Someday maybe. These all look snazzy too. Quick question, any thoughts on the afford alr Joe Dart bass? I'm beyond tempted to preorder 😅
If you want that joe dart kind of vibe it’s hard to pass up at that price 😅 Just keep in mind all tonal tweaking has to happen with your other gear you run it through!
These are preamp pedals with a built in DI. DI stands for "direct input" and is intended to send a balanced line level signal from the instrument directly to the mixer. Terminology and technical imformation matters and you lose credibility and give the impression you dont know what youre talking about right from the start of your video.

Darkglass B7K Ultra for me. And the model on the Helix/HX Stomp is outstanding!

I love that TD and Janek G has spoken about this.❤
I really like ZIO and Ampeg SGT tone in this video!
I have the Ampeg and I love it.
Love the ampeg clean with the ultra lo, that's where its at. 25:50
I like the Zio with the Scooper switch on but my fav is the Ampeg with B15 voicing

I just built my new rig around the Jad Freer Capo. Absolutely love it
Fantastic pedal
AAAH i was waiting for this video for so long, i could see them on your table😁😅
I recommend the helix stomp has many amps and di's also has many effects.

have you ever considered the studio classic sansamp bass driver DI v2, as its supposed to simulate a classic maybe vintage tubey bass tone?
I've been using an original Sansamp Bass Driver since 1998.

I think the Ampeg sounds best snd clean not to over scratchy but tones are jumping out
I love my Mesa Subway DI Preamp.
it's a great video. But putting tracks on soundcloud or something similar, which not compress too much the sound would help !
i use a Zoom B6 and although the preset patches are okay, once I started using my own it is a beast.
Just curious, how come you haven't talked much about Markbass? Thought it might be in your view as it seems like a popular pedal.
That Origin BassRig was definitely last place for me. 💩
Honestly don’t think the peaking signal helped
Agreed, it’s sucks Major Head, sounds bad, he should have demo a different one.
I compared the Ampeg to the origin and the Origin is way better, way more natural. Dont know what happend here but it sounds nothing like the real one

great video!
I’d love to see what your rig looks like for Sunday/Touring.
Can you check the Zoom B2-Four? Multi-effect pedal with great sounding DI!

The Ampeg sounded overall the best to me. Great video!
Agree!!
Can't recommend the SS-6 enough btw. I use it as my main studio DI now. The preamps are amazing
GK hands down, keep up the good work Bro I’m subscribed

Please can you make a review of Michael Kelly Pinnacle 🙏
Is Neve RNDI better than these?
I have the Neve and it is very good but there are zero bells and whistles. What goes in is what comes out. A pure DI.
My fav out of those sounds 25:52
Exactly
Yea you miss the GK plex!!👌🏽🔥🔥
Although you have mention it before
To me is the best for neck trough basses
You need a review of types of basses like necktrough, 2pcs, etc, or type of wood wich I also think change your tone and reacts different with your Di
I found out that my necktrough basses works better with the Gk plex
And the ampeg sgt with maple body
Blessings!!🙋🏻♂️

Wish he added these from the other demo but hopefully it helps!
Dumb question. Is there any point to using a cab sim when using a combo amp or is this more for using monitors?
More for going straight to the board
Where is the Walrus Canvas in your review?
