This helped a tonne. The tailgate locked whilst it was still opened and it was raining. Managed to speed through your video and was able to keep the water coming into the car to a minimum
Thanks for taking the time to show us how you did it. Very helpful and saved me some money. One small addition was that after I did all you said, I still couldn't open the door as the deadlock was on. I found an inch long bit of white plastic shaped like a letter "E" which you can just see at 05:38 in the film. This goes up and down to unlock the deadlock.
@@GPTV2020 what is the deadlock? i have not opened the back, but i found after pulling that round piece of trim, i could put my finger in and switch something up and down, but having been reluctant to pry off the large piece on the bottom, i don't want to break the connection in the middle you say is so easy to break, so how do i remove the bottom panel without breaking it.
@@bobcrowley625 hi, thanks for your comment, I'll be honest you most likely won’t get it off without breaking that middle clip. But it doesn't make much difference if it is broken because it still feels sturdy enough. The deadlock is a double lock by pressing your keys twice. Some car have this feature.

ardiseschenberg. How did you know it was the latch? The trunk won't open on my 2014 CRV. It happened when the trunk closed down on the edge of a blanket. I was able to remove the blanket but was no longer able to open the trunk. Does this sound like a stuck latch & not the actuator?

Nice job. My son just bought used 2003 CRV and he cannot lock the tailgate door. This may be one of the issues. We felt the pressure of purchasing it from private seller due to the car sale market here in middle Tennessee. Thank you for this. Lol, thank you, its very inexpensive to do yourself, the actuator only cost me 30 euro that's around 45 dollars, and its easy enough to do yourself. Hopefully you get it sorted.

To open the rear door on the right of door is a rubber bung. Pull it off, stick your finger inside and push up on the little lever in there. It's kinda in the middle of the gubbins in there. Gently pull the trim straight towards you or ideally use a long trim lever to get behind the plastic clips.
Really helpful thank you. My back door would not unlock - had to get dogs in and out via the side door, then just by chance it unlocked. Was ok for a bit but now it won't lock when the other doors do. I'll attempt to fit a new actuator - your video was very useful. The 2010 had some wiring issues, where sometimes it would lock and sometimes it wouldn't. Do you hear anything click when you dubble press the key fob or put the key in the door and turn it twice? If you hear nothing it could be wiring if you do hear a click it could be the actuator. But your cheapest options would be to check all fuses and swap the actuator first.

Luckily for me , half the time it would lock... the other half it wouldn't. Since I was able to open the door and had the insight from your video I was able to do it in about 45 minutes without destroying a single clip. Thank You for sharing this information!, it pretty much was all business and not 45 minutes of fluff like most people try to stuff in for extra viewing time, the only downside was the intro/outro music was a bit loud... I have an hellacious audio system on my desktop, and when turned up to hear your narration when it went to exit it blasted me out of my chair and rattled the walls. Keep up the good work, and if I might suggest... maybe consider audio leveling the video audio. Shoot... now yo have me thinking. Maybe I need to make a audio leveling plug in for TH-cam/Edge/Chrome! Thanks for your comment, gled it was helpful. I have since noticed that the intro/outtro was a bit loud and I did changes on most of the newer videos. Unfortunately we need to add fluff to videos to make videos 10 mins or more so that youtube will promote and suggest it. Plus the youtube algorithm likes longer videos and will suggest them more to viewers, to keep them watching the platform and it also helps youtubers to show people their personality so if they like the youtuber then thay are more likely to come back for more videos.

It's just like network news, they hype up something 30 times saying Coming Up after the break Blah Blah Blah... and they could have told the story in the time it would have taken to have said the other hype once. I actually don't know, it just pushes in. The only way I could see was to remove all the other clips then lift the centre part up to slid it off the clip that is pushed in the the door. Hope this helps.
Thanks for the video, it's easy to take off the door cover by following your step, however, I still can not open the door. But I found it's ok to open if I push the white plastic trigger and open th door at the same time. The problem is I need to push the trigger everytime when I want to open the tailgate. Does it mean I need to replace the actuator?

I would say the actuator could be gone now because of that. I would get someone inside and outside opening by the handle and pushing from the inside first before buying the actuator. It could be just jammed but I'd reckon it is the actuator.
It could be getting held back by something or the door lock itself could be out of place. I wouldn't replace the actuator until i knew why the door was not closing.
I have 2004 crv and the trunk door doesn’t lock or unlock using the key remote so I’m assuming it’s the same problem as yours and probably identical actuator, please let me know if this is the case. thanks
Hi Gavin, initial thanks for the video, would have been lost without it. Also thanks to Tim (Bateman) as I found that having removed all the panels and activated the lever as per 5:15 in your video, the door was still locked. I went back to the video and read through the comments and saw Tim’s and with one click, the door opened. I am now at the point of ordering a new actuator but just a quick question, there isn’t a fuse controlling this is there? Be a shame if that’s the problem. I am doubtful because the rear window and the other four doors still work so I am figuring, if there is a fuse, it would control these as well. Cheers again
Hey Les, thanks for your comment. There is normally a fuse in some cars, I'm not sure if there is a fuse for your car but you could have a look at all your fuse boxes and check. As for the little leaver or catch to release the door, that is not available in my CRV, that's why i did not feature it in the video. Again thanks for watching and your comment.
Final question, I have seen actuator prices ranging from £15 (EBay) to £80 (Honda dealers) . Where did you get your new actuator and do you know the Part Number? Searching online suggests 72115-S5A-A01 but wondered if you knew. Also the cheaper versions don’t have the actuator lever coloured green, it’s the same colour plastic as the main body.

Hi Gav Thanks for all the responses. Part ordered off Amazon so if there is a problem I can return it at zero cost. Took the old one out to measure it up and the hardest part of the whole process was, after disconnecting everything, getting the unit out of the door panel.
Information ,I just changed driver door actuator on a 2002 Japanese made version. I found the British car version used the white ones with connections on side. Other version is black and connectors go in the end
Hi Gavin! Thank you for this video. Once I opened up the trunk I discovered that the actuator and the metal mechanism that it is supposed to be attached to we're not attached to the inside of the trunk like it is supposed to be. I reattached the two actuator components to themselves with screws I got at a hardware and reattached it to the trunk itself, but it still does not work. Does that mean that the actuator is bad? The metal half of the actuator does not seem to respond well to the trunk handle which makes me wonder if that has gone bad. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.
It sounds like it yes, but it could be a different problem like a dead fues or if you wanted to remove one of the actuators from a different door on your car, and test that one on the wiring in the boot/trunk to see if it is the wiring first. Hopefully this will help.

Now i was told there is a hatch on the side where the lock is, with a lever to release the door but i never found it. Maybe that will help you also.

What is the proper way to remove the main trim piece to avoid breaking the middle tab?
I actually don't know, it just pushes in. The only way I could see was to remove all the other clips then lift the centre part up to slid it off the clip that is pushed in the the door. Hope this helps.

Yes, the actuator is malfunctioning it might click and sound like its working but it's not actually moving much.

When actuator was broken in my Honda, I opened by key, but can't close

It's probably the actuator, remove all the panels from the door so you can see the latch then try to open it and buy a new actuator replacement.
