See the key-hole on the outside handle? With the key inserted, turn it 1 click clockwise to release the glass, 1 more click clockwise to lock the tailgate. Turning the key counter-clockwise will unlock the tailgate. All of this corresponds to the small raised dots just above the keyhole- 1 click to left, 2 to the right. Don't forget to close the glass.

How can I open if my handle is broken? We had a hail storm and it broke my tailgate handle have not been able to unlock/open the door especially now that my passenger side taillight is out and need to fix.

There is a button by the controls on the door to open the glass mine is a 2003 i don’t know if is the same in a 06

why not use the key to unlock it, this is the most simple thing to do.
