Spider-Man No way home and Willem Dafoe just proved that Green Goblin is the greatest Spider-Man villain in whatever universe he's in! Both mentally and physically.
Facts! His green goblin is Joker level
He proved it in 2002
.
.
.
His acting is so phenomenal that he doesn't even need to wear a mask to show fear.
All he needed was his facial expression.
I was blown away by dafao in NWH
Yea “defao” was amazing.
It's not even funny anymore. I was frickin scared
Even tho it's been 19 years but he still scary as the goblin
He didn’t wear the mask for show it was to hide his identity and for the Goblin to be in control.
I was so glad the Goblin mask was smashed immediately in NWH. That was the one mistake from the Raimi film. Show use his face, Defoe's face acting is genius!
This is why Willem Dafoe is such a brilliant actor the fact he’s able to play both sides of Norman the scared frightened man who wants to get rid of his inner demons and the haunting malicious Green Goblin so perfectly simultaneously is nothing sort of perfection.
Maybe he’s not acting and he’s playing the role from somewhere real inside him
Frightened man who wanted to get rid of his inner demons and the GG, who wanted to get rid of his inner angels.
@@tomorrowsdust4417 😓😅😅
Alfred too!!!! I mean, props to these actors for making these movies looks great!!! Just watched no way home, i gotta say the acting is really on point
Ok
*"Strong enough to have it all, too weak to take it!"*
I legitimately think he deserves an Oscar for what he did in No Way Home. He completely transformed from an actor into an animal when portraying the Green Goblin in that film.
Don’t take the high ground on this
An Oscar? Lol
@@Richard-cr2fo what is so surprising about this? he is already an award-winning actor
@@thelonetacoj6487 its not high ground. he is on that level
Hey Obi Wan, long time no see. What did you think about No Way Home?
19 years later, the guy still gives the most evil and terrifying version of Green Goblin on screen!
His competition is the goblin from Amazing Spider-Man 2, so yeah
Im spider man 1 he is worst i think
Agreed. No Way Home found a new way to make him more scary.
Thala Tamila neenga
Still got the moves
Willem Dafoe just raised the bar for portraying comic book villains, period. Not only did he get to play the delightfully campy, Jack Nicholson-type spin of Green Goblin, but he also got to play the genuinely terrifying, Heath Ledger-type version of the same character *AND* he made that version look like a natural evolution of the old campy character that he once played, rather than an obvious reboot/retcon. *AND* he still got to perform his own stunts during his second outing.
He's not just Dafoe. He's DaGOAT.
Jack is best Joker, Heath wasn’t terrifying he was edgy and overrated.
Tho Yes, Dafoe is Dagoat.
@@trollking6315 COMPLETELY DISAGREE on Heath but I think Jack is actually UNDERRATED personally. Leto was wannabe Edgy. I’d even say the same with Monaghan
I’d say SM1 is more joker because he actually has a character there.
I agree. In No Way Home, Goblin is in an universe where he doesn't have an identity, almost like the Joker in The Dark Knight. Maybe it makes him feel more free, violent and determined to trick everyone and follow his sick dreams of power.
He's something of a messiah himself.
No way Home is just another masterclass by Dafoe. What an actor !

He's also something of a scientist.
@@ethandalton6480 *He’s something of a scientist himself
This man just outdid himself..he set the bar even higher and nobody would ever dare to play Green Goblin better than Willem Dafoe again🔥✨
I can see Antony Starr (Homelander from The Boys) handling the role pretty well
yessssssss that guy is a menacee@@guilhermefioresi7538
Yeah just like Heath Ledger, it’s hard not to compare after such a performance
This man's acting never ceases to amaze me, especially during this scene.
I haven't seen NWH yet, *but I've been told that Green Goblin stole the show in every scene he was in.*
William Dafoe straight up gave me goosebumps in NWH he was a mix of scary and intimidating
I’ll confirm this when I see nwh tomorrow
Yeah and he kills Tom Holland's Aunt May
@@mayukhchaterji3222 Dude you’re so funny
I can definitely tell you that it's accurate, he stole the scene everytime
I love how when he turns at 1:18, Willem literally changes his expression from insane to confused in like a millisecond. Also, his difference in walking to the mirror when either the goblin or Norman is in control is awesome.
Came here for this. The best part is this seems to be done with his and the camera works alone. Just a simple camera angle, giving William Dafoe a split moment to have his expression on both him and in the mirror hidden, and he can just change his expression smoothly using that window.
When i was young i literally thought they were two different people. He did a great job differentiating goblin from norman
That walk towards the mirror,..yes I observed it as well...oh boy ! one hell of an extraordinary actor he is 👍☺
Good Actor.

This is from Spider Man 1 not Spider Man 2
@@kayleee4065 spiderman 2002 is spider man 1
Fun fact: The Mirror scene wasn't even in the script, Dafoe just improvised it out of nowhere and Raimi was so shocked by his performance he had to include it in the film.

When Spiderman was punching Norman in no way home and he was laughing gave me goosebumps
Facts. He then proceeded to wipe the floor with spiderman.
@Detective WebHead He destroyed spiderman on that scene
@@ant8041 literally and several floors
Random comic fact: Green Goblin can lift up to 9 tons. Peter's punches were literally rolling off of Norman's face like it was the damn wind!
I'll give the credit to Sony instead of Marvel. That was creepy as hell!! Thank you, Mr. Dafoe. 👏
The greatest scene for Dafoe in No Way Home had to be the fight scene against Tom’s Peter when Tom/Peter is on top of his shoulders and ruthlessly punching Dafoe/Goblin but he just grins menacingly. The fear in Peter’s eyes when he realizes he can’t hurt the goblin and the goblin realizing how in control he is is just terrifying and makes the scene standout
I’ve always said that the 2002 character Dafoe and raimi created with the Green Goblin was massively underused. I’m glad to see they finally put him to his full potential
Dude now, I know you're happy & all about the movie but what do you mean by his "full potential" in NWH?
I'm genuinely curious as to what you mean, if you mean that he didn't have his mask then okay but as a character more... I just think Dafoe stepped his Performance up even more that's all.
full potential una
Ikr the best part was when he suddenly came out and totally manipulated the rest of the groups psychology. That was a brilliant scene speech level was 110 lol
How was he underused? He was better in this movie then no way home
@@bilalwardak1999 because he was killed after one film. That’s what they mean underused. I think
Holy crap, NWH actually managed to make me love Green Goblin twice as much. He’s just so utterly fascinating to me, it boggles my mind

In no way home he’s just a crazy man that appears out of nowhere in the final battle
I love how detailed the Bugle article is. You see the actual way of speaking from Jameson like "some kind of freak" (he really likes using the word "freak")
I’m glad they didn’t water down his character in no way home he’s terrifying as ever
@Detective WebHead no not even close
@@Karma-pq9fi Yes he is. They dialled it up a good couple of notches in NWH.

Its truly amazing how perfectly Willem Dafoe can just snap back into character after nearly two entire decades, he stole the show in No Way Home!
Attaboy!
What about Infinity War, taking one the Avengers and Spiderman, and using the Infinity stones.
And it was natural
This scene gives a nostalgic feeling as well as a horror one..
The combination of those two emotions is honestly insane..
10 out 10 scene for sure
You do know who's directing the movie, he's famous for horror movies
@@ramal5708 I didn't know he'd direct a horror film but I'm not surprised
I’d like to see Willem as Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde.
Iconic scene right here. When I was a kid I just found this scene being a bit scary but looking at it now, I’m amazed by his acting
I agree
2:04 That Evil Smile
In Speed 2, his face is crazier than this one.
I cant tell if his eyes getting wider is CGI or not but it is iconic.
im here returning from the Homelander Mirror scene :)
Sameee waiting for more people to join us :)
@@tahminahabeeb175 well well well heyo boys
I was hoping that was a nod to this scene; after watching them side by side, the “Bingo!”/“Yahtzee!” bit makes me think it really was.
Idk why ppl are comparing the two I mean sure it's about self conflict in villains but homelanders scene has a lot more depth whereas green goblin seems more cartoony
Hello there
the performance of defoe in No Way Home and in this one it's just 👏👏👏
How this man was never given the chance to play the Joker in something is beyond me. This role alone shows how well he could have done it, at least as a voice part. He's right up there with Mark Hamill in my opinion for ability to play crazy
I prefer it this way. We have a million Jokers and several done well. Dafoe completely took ownership of this role.
Otherwise it would have been type casting
Willem without a doubt gave such an incredible legendary acting performance. 🎭👏🏻🔥
Goblin was so brutal in No Way Home and I loved it!
Pulling off a Gollum/Sméagol.
@@bighand1530 this mirror scene sort of reminds me of the inner conflict between Sméagol and Gollum.
Fun fact I found out not knowing years before is that “The Goblin” has DaFoe’s more natural imperfect teeth while Norman is DaFoe wearing prosthetics so they look less crooked!
That part where Peter is punching his face and Goblin just laughs it off. Absolutely phenominal.
Honestly, Dafoe's performance in No Way Home was like he walked onto set and just carried on where he left off on the original Spiderman.
I like how the Goblin is his own personality that can change on a dime with Norman and it's just pure genius.
Willem Dafoe's performance as Norman Osborn/Green Goblin is so iconic.
I haven’t seen the OG Spider-Man since I was 5 when it came out in 2002, and I actually remember his performance and how villainous he was!
@@andrewburgemeister6684yes I like this scene what if harry come in and his dad laughing or with the costume on
1:26, What performance Mr. Dafoe !🥺 Hats off !🎩
Homelander learned from the best.
It is truly amazing how he’s literally talking to himself in the mirror and I genuinely feel like there’s 2 people there
No wonder this movie scared me as a kid. Willem Dafoe did an outstanding job as Norman Osborn. Creepy, scary, menacing, bat shit crazy. He gave me nightmares. As he aproaches to the mirror is scary enough to have nightmares, that sinister and devilish smile. Top notch acting.
Same!! I was 10 when this movie came out, and I remember being so scared of the Green Goblin because of this scene. Everything about his demeanor when the Goblin is in control is so creepy and unnerving, I'm glad I can appreciate just how good of an actor he is now.
0:55 this scene was actually brilliant. William Dafoe made a beautiful work with this movie
This is straight up like Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. At first I thought that the Green Goblin is a separate entity talking to Norman, but it was actually Norman talking to himself, influenced by the performance enhancers. The side effect is that the Green Goblin personality eventually taking over his noble personality, just like Mr Hyde to Dr Jekyll.
The serum enhances everything....including your mental illness. Which runs in the Osborn family
Willem dafoe is just such a great actor the fact that he was able to play two sides of the same character so perfectly and execute his role with sheer perfection is just crazy to me
Amazing actor. His facial structure is also perfect for playing the joker.
After 19 years, we watched the same level of excellent acting again in no way home. Williem Dafoe is a perfect Norman Osborn and Green Goblin.
0:10 Norman got scared when he heard that laugh of his.
*i love this scene so much just because willem dafoe's acting skills are so amazing and exquisite, he is the best actor in the movie*
Willem Dafoe was already amazing as green goblin in Spider-Man 1, but his performance in No Way Home puts him with the all time greats like Heath Ledger and Hugh Jackman where they cannot possibly be replaced
He already had that in SM1 NWH didn’t all of sudden make that happen.
@@Karma-pq9fi I mean, he was great in Spider-Man 1 but only doing 1 movie can’t prove that you’re irreplaceable, he came back 20 years later and stole that show, this proves that there can’t be another actor playing the character but him
@@Karma-pq9fi in NWH he felt more menacing bcoz of no mask
@@siddharth_0771 nah
Joe Sherry Why do people give heath the one movie/ god status treatment? But not Dafoe? Tisk tisk
1:06 you can see him say "what do you want?" to show that he is unstable and talking to himself!
Yep! I caught that.
God, I love how he's the main villain for NWH. Out of all Spider-Man's enemies, Green Goblin is the one that always brings out the worst in Peter Parker.
Norman Osborn=Dr Henry Jekyll
Green Goblin=Mr Edward Hyde
NWH Newbie: "So, when will the Green Goblin return?"
Green Goblin: "Follow the cold shiver running down your spine.......I'm right HERE!"
The thing about goblin is that he know how to hurt a person real bad. Literally attacks from inside to outside. Hurts the person mentally and physically.
The heart first we attack the heart
Director: I want you to say the word "power" with your right eye.
Me: That's imposible.
Willem: Hold my beer.
And there you have it: 1:42
I love how strong they made him in No Way Home. Actually giving Toms spidey a challenge like Tobey did in this one
Man, I am so glad not only No Way Home not only didn't toned down the Goblin's malice but took it to eleven. Everytime that creepy bastard appeared on screen I felt shivers on my skin. They did his charecter and Dafoe's perfomance justice.
The Boys did a good replication of this
Fr, Anthony freaking killed it
Came back to this incredible performance bc of the boys
The crazy part is Norman Osbourne is literally seeing himself in a psychotic manner, but doesn’t notice he’s talking to himself either.
These are some HEAVY hallucinations that he could only see.
damn, music got really 🔥 at 0:39
From 2022 Spidey 1 to NWH in 2021,you can just see the brilliance of William Dafoe for the charcter.
He seamlessly slips from a frightened, remorseful Norman to the spine shivering, menacing & chaotic Goblin persona so very well!!!
2022?
@@gukeoke6312 Think they mean 2002.
man took one step into the MCU and immediately outclassed every single villain there
This kinda epitome arises from a heavy training in acting school and theatre arts.
Awesome way of representing two characters parallelly with such a smoothness.
I like that they had the tribal mask art all over his apartment. It makes sense he would wear one when he's in the Goblin suit plus it's a sign he was already a little unhinged even before he took the serum.
Years later he’s still as brutal as he was in this movie, a perfect role that only he can fit
Mervel's JOKER!🔥
His acting is incredible you can see him changing from just his eyes
He's way terrifying than the joker lol dude has an enhanced strength and flies around on a glider
"You killed them"
"They're on sabatical, honey"
He would make the best Joker of all time
Norman wasn't a good father and a lot of stuff, but he was no murder, just a regular guy. I love NWH showed the progress of the serum, updating this BRILLIANT scene here. She was right about him.
Willem Dafoe steals every scene he is in in NWH, if Spiderman is to earn an oscar it should be given to him
Willem Dafoe makes a perfect Green Goblin, but this just proves he would also make a fantastic Joker as well.
Maybe even as dinobot from transformers he would be spectacular
His face is so perfect for the role.
I remember being genuinely kind of scared of him when I was younger. The cackling especially through the empty mansion. Theres chewing the scenery, and then there's straight up assaulting the scenery. He kills it.
I'm gonna say what we've all been thinking/saying for years:
he would've fucking killed it as the Joker
I hope to be reincarnated in an alternate reality where he played the joker
One of the greatest comic book movie castings of all time.
Willem Dafoe is one of those actors that has an absolutely amazing range. In my opinion one of the most talented actors in the world. His acting credits and performances speak for themselves. A truly brilliant actor
I know this scene is basically an imitation of Norman talking to Goblin in the mirror in Spider-Man TAS from 1994, but this scene is still amazing.
Norman Osborn: The board members. You killed them.
Green Goblin: We killed them!
Norman Osborn: We?
The way he beat tom holland in the first fight was brutal
Dafoe’s performance was legendary in this movie but Spider-Man no way home was on a whole other level than legendary
Nah he was already amazing in this movie I’d say there are a lot more character scenes and progression in this movie.
NWH was legendary but people have recency bias. His performance in the original 2002 was the best.
Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin was insane in NWH. Phenomenal acting by Dafoe.
No one can play the Green Goblin like William Dafoe man. He captures the duality of Norman and the Goblin so well
Dafoe, using only facial expressions and voice, plays diametrically opposed characters. He’s damn good
Another thing that makes me happy about No Way Home is that it will spark curiosity in the new generation so they will watch this 2002 Spider-man
After NWH I can confirm that green gobs close combat is scary and skillful af!
Willem Dafoe portrayed a perfect example of duality between Norman and the Goblin which was furthermore well established in no way home. His acting is very underrated
"underrated"?? Literally everyone is praising his acting, this word is used such a skewed way nowadays
Wolverin exmen😊
The only villain who is more frightening without his mask
Willem Dafoe’s performance as Green Goblin is so scary that it’s jaw-dropping. I wouldn’t have picked anyone else to play this character!
Not in this scene but I love when goblin says "I'm going to rectify certain inequities"
Back in the day, superhero movies were made as one-offs
No post-credit scenes, no sequel baits or even announcements of cinematic universes without even thinking through
Back there, they were concerned about the present instead of the future, so directors could give their movies an identity of their own, and villains were allowed to shine, without being overshadowed by a bigger villain that was yet to come
Okay
Anyone see that scene in The Boys that is very much like this scene but with Homelander ????
Willem actually didn’t look down on playing a comic book character, which I like. It shows how much appreciation he had for the source material. He played the Goblin incredibly and almost 20 years later, he still played the role well.
*God I love the goblin, he’s my favorite MCU villain behind Scarlet Witch* he genuinely feels like a man struggling to fight a demon that just won’t LET HIM GO 😢 The raimi trilogy was so peak cinema
This was just a brilliant performance,a masterclass, a masterPIECE.
01:16 That turn is just perfect
After watching NWH amazing Willem DaFoe still got it as Norman Osborn/Green Goblin
Oh my goodness. Just amazing acting.
He's something of an actor himself.
"you know I'm something of a scientist myself". Brought back memories.
The way Willem Dafoe so effortlessly switch between 2 characters. He's so good.
I was 7 when this came out and this genuinely terrified the shit out of me, these days now that it no longer paralyses me with fear holy shit his acting, physicality and line delivery throughout this entire film is fucking amazing
Bless you Willem. Thank you for this.
"Norman's on sabbatical honey." Years later my introduction to Norman and the Goblin gave me chills. Already risen to one of my favorites villains of all time.
Glad to see him in NWH again. This man was born to play the Goblin
Oscar-winning performance right there.
Holy shit, the Green Goblin is and will always be Spiderman's arch nemesis. He was that green thorn that messed everything up! Oh man!
I want be a Green goblin!
