Hi there, thanks so much for the comment. I'd say its up there still. Top 3 for sure. Gertrude Saddle is (much shorter but) another great one. Enjoy it when you get there (I'd avoid the busy summer period if that works for you)
@JonHiclimb thanks. I'm over NZ in February so looking at Rees Dart track or something similar. Travers Sabine would be epic but I'm guessing very busy with TA walkers.
@@nathanbates1260. Its always difficult to know how busy these will be. As you say TA walkers will be on the Travers Sabine. We did both on Anniversary Weekends (early Feb) and my abiding memory of the Rees Dart was how busy it was. Not so much on the T-S even with the odd TA walker and the huts all had spare space. Plan to do both if you can at some point. Enjoy
Did the Matukituki-Cascade-Saddle-Dart- and out to Glemnorchy in 1984 with Rachel, my Tramping Mate and Captain. How did you avoid the sandflies??? Great memories!!
It can be 4 days, 5 with the Cascade Saddle out and back added. We added a 6th as planned another side trip but the bridge was out so we couldn't get over to the Whitbourn. Its certainly a great tramp, one of the best in NZ I'd say, although very busy to.
Hi there, so we did 6 days, but you can do it in 4 + 1 if you wish to do the side trip to Cascade Saddle (highly recommended). So 5 days food plus a contingency meal would be sensible.
This is an excellent video, and I am keen to do this walk now. 😊
Thank you for sharing it. Our country is so beautiful and so diverse!
Love your style. Still your personal favourite walk in NZ to this day? Im eying this up soon. Thanks

Thanks for the memories. My late hubby and I did the Rees Dart in 1996. Wonderful time.

"Shelter Rock Hut" actually old boy. The grind to the saddle takes its toll. I appreciate your top Ten list - weather dependent!
5:15 into it is stunning! I'm going to have to do this hike. I thought it was a 4 day tramp though?

Yep done it, horrible weather non stop rain, best part was the beers and whiskey in Queenstown..
How much food do we need for this 6 days Hike...
Thank you for sharing 🙂

this track is also belong to one of the te araroa?
No, the TA goes nearby but not on this trail. The TA generally misses the best/harder bits
I whish I could go back to NZ, even with my chidren, just to walk the walks i walked and to walk the walks i didn't walked
Just wondering what it’s likely to be like underfoot mid December....would you recommend gaiters?
Alan Breck, hi there. No, I think you’ll be fine without gaiters. Good tracks throughout.
Thanks Jon 👍
