But reading fanfiction and seeing so many bashing ones made me realize that these stories are literally exactly what I've been ignoring. And snape has issues. Dunno why people like him. Then Ron, who is just starting obviously. So _why_ is this woman shouting about muggles and asking her kids where the platform is? Simple. To get attention. Who's? Idk, maybe a boy who has just been left at a station with no direction on how to get to the platform. I haven't read the books in a bit but they ran at the wall? Sure, let's run into a wall after shouting strange things. We want to make sure the boy knows what's happening. Pretty sure in the rest of the series they slip through as they "lean" against it. Ya know, as to not draw attention. It's easy to say a mother would coddle a lost child out of instinct. But she went overboard. She was a little to nice. She wasn't a the greatest mother to her kids, that's for sure. But she's not Harry's mother and tried to replace lily. Almost like refusing to believe he doesn't want to forget about his parents. She doted on him in a way that tells me she wanted to make sure she was one of the only adults he could turn to. She seemed to care for him more than her own children. How tf did she buy harry the things she did anyway? The book said the weasley vault had only a few coins. Yet here she is buying brand new books for harry and a nice robe for the yule ball. A few coins shouldn't even get Ron's entire supply list, let alone 4/5 kids lists. Even if they were second hand. Ron told her that the dursleys were _starving_ harry. And as protective she is of him, she didn't bat an eye. That's not something someone would say to get out of trouble, it's a serious issue. There are definitely a few more things, can't think of them right now. Onto Ron. As far as I'm aware, Harry wasn't at the back of the train. And he should have had friends before hogwarts, he grew up in the magical world. With kids his age. There's no evidence, but honestly, I think he was looking for harry. Because he's famous and stuff. And why go back to him only when he's the talk of the school again? Ron's work ethic is horrible. Definitely lazy in the academic department. He kind of drew harry away from studying. We all know harry is intelligent, but his grades definitely don't reflect it. Hermione kind if draws him away from studying because she's overboard with it. He gets jealous over the money harry has, the stuff he can buy and does buy. Sometimes I think he's in it just for the attention it brings. And takes advantage of Harry's kindness. There are definitely exceptions to this. He sticks with harry throughout when he's at his lowest, dispite his outbursts. Not only does he stick with harry when he struggled, he tried to protect him from everyone else and their judgement. Gets real angry and protective when he finds out umbridge is technically torturing harry. He tries to keep the paper out of things, yet still got mad when they said the shit they did. He (and hermione) let himself be the target for harrys anger and his outbursts, even going as far as to encourage him to do it more. He let's harry take his emotions out on him while remaining patient and understanding, showing harry that he will be there for him, whenever he wants or needs it. Tries to make harry understand that its okay to lean on someone, that they're willing to listen to whatever harry wants to get off his chest. Ron and hermione really try to support Harry's decisions as much as they can while trying to subtly show him that he's not alone, carefully pushing him in the right direction, to come to them. So I'm really torn about him (let's be real, I'm torn about everyone. I don't _want_ to be thinking they're bad people.). But there are times where the friendship seems fake. Dumbledore. That man has had a lady spying on harry since he was put on that doorstep. Im sure some of his gadgets monitor him. If figg knew how harry was treated, then Dumbledore knew. And he *let. It. Happen.* He was warned by _McGonagall,_ his most trusted advisor. And he left him there. Multiple hogwarts letters were sent. He _knew_ harry slept in a cupboard and that he was being dragged everywhere. He knew _where._ instead of sending McGonagall or even snape, of all people, he sent hagrid. He has incredibly loose lips. Why tf are you sending a man that can't keep secrets out to get a child unaware of his heritage AND a very secret object that is in need of protection? Why tf does Dumbledore have Harry's vault key _anyway?_ At the end of the first book he said something along the lines of harry *_doing better than he expected?!_* meaning he _planned_ the entire thing. Which makes sense. Why tell a school of children to not go somewhere? Why says theyd die? Why not have wards that alert teachers for when a student enters the restricted area? Why lock the door in a way that a _first year_ could open? The tasks were fit to the trios skills. Neville could have been part of the group, but a very smart witch could get past the devils snare. The keys, youngest seeker in a century could get it. Chess, a certain red head is known to be brilliant at it. A troll, well you let a possessed man teach. the riddle, the smartest witch could solve that. And letting quirrel in anyway. You'd think there's be wards around the school preventing something dark like that from getting into a school. Harry asked him to stay at school. Wouldn't that set of warning bells that maybe something isn't right in that house? Dumbledore _wanted_ harry to be abused. Because then you'd have a niave boy who'd look at you with admiration, because you introduced a new world to him. A world where he feels loved, like he belongs. It's like he knew or at least made sure that he met and befriended a strictly "light" family. One that practically worships the ground he walks on, one that takes his word as law. That whole adventure in first year was him testing Harry's courage and strength. Technically Dumbledore created the perfect weapon. A child he could manipulate and raise to be exactly what he wanted them to be. I don't really know what his motivation behind it would be. But in multiple fics, he expects harry to die, and stay dead trying to defeat Voldemort. Which would make sense. Harry became friends with a kid who stopped him from becoming as smart as we know he could have been. And became friends with a kid who took studying to seriously, making him want to avoid working with her. She's a little bossy and judging. By having a moldable child grow up inbetween that means hes not super smart, but smart enough to think of seemingly impressive things or come up with solutions to difficult questions. He hoped harry would die and then he'd defeat Voldemort himself, getting more influence. The weasleys (Molly, Ron and ginny. The rest of the family seems to always be unaware of anything happening.) would be expecting money and heirlooms from Harry's will. In some, hermione expects access to the potter library and personal research. And in a lot of them Ron is being paid to be Harry's friend (sometimes hermione as well), Molly is being paid to idk "love" him both starting at Ron's first year. and ginny is just waiting for the wedding and later an "accident". Though sometimes she want to keep him for sex. Dumbledore usually helps himself Harry's money. The dursleys are usually paid to keep him. The last two starting as soon as the potters die. Ginny. I don't really have many issues with her, but the hinny relationship seems a bit... weird. It not something I can explain well, it's more of a feeling. Their relationship was a bit... sudden. The fact that she had a fan girl crush on him made things a bit off as well. His attraction to her was also sudden, and he fell hard and fast. I guess that could be normal in real life, but again, it _feels_ off. And again, the fics don't make it any better. In some she's betrothed, mostly illegally, and expects to get all his money and assets after his death as part of idk, marriage? Who gets all their partners stuff when they die?
