- The PlayStation 5 has graced us with some amazing titles that have received awards, recognition, and plenty of fanfare… But… there are also quite a few games that have flown under the radar despite being a great experience. Today, we’re unearthing the best PS5 Hidden Gems that deserve to be played and discussed. I'll start by saying that what I'm writing is my opinion and not an attack on your list because you know that I always respect your opinion and your take on games! But for once, I would have to disagree with your definition of hidden gems.
Here's my definition of what I consider a hidden gem: A game that has unique mechanics that brings something new to the table and that got little to no publicity and that people didn't hear about them.
In your list, here are the ones that I think fits those criteria:
- Wanted Dead
- Kee Wee
- Vengeful Guardian
- Sword & Fairy
And the ones that I think that don't fit those criteria:
-Calisto Protocol (highly publicized and reviewed)
- Disco Elysium (massive success on PC as it released on it like 2 years prior)
- Wo Long Fallen Dynasty (highly publicized and reviewed)
- Atomic Heart (highly publicized and reviewed)
- Wreckfest (popular but not talked about as much as demolition derby games are super niche)
- The Ascent (successful on Xbox as it's part of GamePass... also, the only affinity that it has with Diablo is the isometric view)
Like I said this is totally my opinion and not an attack on yours!

Dan, I love your enthusiam and passion for gaming! It's always a treat to get a comment from you. I respect your opinion and thoughts on games too which makes it fun to read differing opinions. I also appreciate your polite comment, and for anyone reading, Dan and I are great friends, he is definitely not attacking me.
I'll start by saying, my definition of a hidden gem is a little different. For me, it's simply a game that I think deserves more attention and praise than what it received or perhaps it sold poorly. I may have missed some praise and reviews by the big pubs and I don't watch a ton of TH-camrs so I'm sure I missed some community talking points. For example, I know almost nothing about GamePass and what is popular on it.

I stopped the video. That game sucked. It was an abortion, not a hidden gem.

Indie games have really become a focus point for me with the way the AAA publishers are going. I feel that the quality and style for indie titles are much more satisfying and feel like "video games" as opposed to some huge titles. Thanks for watching and dropping a comment. Happy gaming nerds!
Awesome list! I keep meaning to pick up Sword & Fairy 7 so thanks for reminding me lol. I'll also have to look into Wanted Dead at some point and I have both Atomic Heart and Callisto Protocol on my play soon list

Grab it while you can! I have a feeling that will be tough to come by in a few years. Wanted Dead is just super cool and reminds me so much of the PS3 era. I'm stoked you already have Atomic Heart and Callisto Protocol. Those are both bangers and very fun. You got a lot of games to play my guy!

The ascent I have on the switch and it is stunning to watch and very solid to play once u readjust to the twin stick shooter mechanic (not too common these days). Wanted dead (and Evil West) is an instant classic if u like Grasshopper like games. Disco Elysium and Wo Long are both incredible but I am not sure they are "hidden" - they are at the pinnacle of recent games. Sword and fairy (and Xuan Yuan) really surprised me in 2023 I am a big fan and I preordered the S&F ltd edition physical at tesura games.
The Ascent is one I really want to co op soon! Evil West is one I keep hearing about that id love to add to my collection. I do love Grasshopper Games. I’ll agree that Disco Elysian and Wo Long probably aren’t hidden gems, I just feel like no one in my community talked about them much so for me personally they flew under the radar. Oh my goodness..... if there is one man who would love the robots in Atomic Heart it is you!!! They are very.... cultured.... wink wink. Moonrider is super cool and such a retro blast. I know I'm quite silly and don't pay attention to the big news outlets and big TH-camrs much but I didn't hear much about Disco Elysium in my friend groups so I thought why not... maybe it's a hidden gem haha. Wanted caught my attention. It was recently in the humble bundle. I picked it up with a bundle of other games that looked cool or games I have wanted. This one never heard of but it certainly grabbed me

Oh man, _Wreckfest_ is one of my top three racing games of all time! I love that one! The special events are a lot of fun, but nothing beats crashing out another racer trying too hard to play just a straight race! 😂
Wreckfest is such a blast. There is so much chaos going on and it's fun to win and lose. I'll have to check out the special events more. I think you are more of a PC gamer, right? Too bad because I'd love to play it on the PS5 with you!

Hmmm I bought Wanted Dead but haven’t got around to it yet after it’s lackluster reception. Might be time to bust that one out while we have a lull in between new releases.

You have no idea how happy it made me to see Atomic Heart in this list! Now if we could just freaking convince Marcello to play it!!!! I am 100% positive he would love that game... great list man!
Atomic Heart was so weird it was awesome and kind of regreshing in a way. I think it will be one of those games people bring up as a hidden gem in the future.
It's just you and me man.... we gotta be the hype men for Atomic Heart. Deserves way more love than what it got! Maybe someday we'll see a sequel, or at the very least another game from that studio.

I had a good time with The Callisto Protocol, but it's not better than the Dead Space remake.
I love the original Dead Space, but I just didn't feel the need to remake it. Maybe that is why I enjoyed a fresh story/IP more. Thanks for watching and dropping a comment!

Also major trash take on colostomy protocol. That game is a boring slog and I cannot even take you seriously saying that it is better than the dead space remake. I had to check to make sure this video didn't come out on April fools day. C'mon son.

Playing Callisto Protocol at the moment, cost £11 and honestly it's super underrated. Quality mode is definitely the best for this particular game

Was dreadful at release healing took too long combat was even worse the patches have made it into a pretty decent game now, and the graphics are definitely some of the best this generation
The problem with Callisto that many games fall into was that it was overhyped so had a hard time living up to it. Ended up overhated and underrated. I couldn’t believe Sony gave it away as a monthly game on Plus already a few months back. It’s one of those games people will look back on as overhated and a hidden gem in the future. Like Mad Max, Sleeping Dogs, or The Order 1886 might be the most appropriate comparison. Unfortunately a lot of people buy into the hate trains a lot of games get in recent years if they’re not perfect. And they miss out on some good ones as a result. As someone who plays most new releases every year I love the variety, even if a game is not goty level good. And Callisto was a fun game. Especially since we get so few sci fi survival horror games. We really only have like Callisto and Dead Space.

Highly advise against the Ascent. The tiny font is impossible to read. I can't understand why no reviewer ever mentions this. And the developer will never fix it. If you don'r mind not being able to read the text, biy away. Otherwise, hard pass.
