Power Stone Review | Better Than Super Smash Bros?
A few games for the Dreamcast library stick out from the rest. Power Stone is one of them. In 1999, Capcom released the brawler Power Stone that would take from the Super Smash Bros formula with Sega’s twist. Let’s smash some tables and open some chests in this Power Stone review!

Mega Man 2 Review | No, It's Not the Best in the Series
Power Stone was the first game I got when I finally bought a Dreamcast. I purchased one at a specialty shop and they asked if I wanted to buy a game too. When I chose Power Stone, the man smiled, told me because I made such a perfect choice, that he'd throw it in for free. When does Wang and Tang NOT go together, am I right? I did like some of the more "monster-like" characters and how they made me think of Darkstalkers. Was that YOU making that wish for Rogue? Ha ha
I love hearing memories like this! Super cool the guy threw it in for FREE! Although I'm not sure what a specialty shop is... is it like a pawn shop? Now, I want some Tang to drink. Haha you know i'm wishing for Rogue every night. Thanks for watching and sharing your Dreamcast story!!
Too bad the list missed some games that were released only in Brazil and Europe such as Battletoads in Battlemaniacs, Earthworm Jim, Street Fighter 2, Mortal Kombat 3 and Sonic Blast.
Nice review! But it's still not enough to make me want to play it. I don't know why, I just look at it and it looks meh, but you're right, it's probably more fun with friends! Great video and keep up the good work!
I get that! It's not for everyone, but for those who enjoy it, it can be a blast, especially with a group of friends. I'm pretty bad at it haha. Thanks for watching!
Nice interview! It's always interesting to see what motivates any dev to do what they did! I always enjoy these interviews while working! It makes my shift less boring! Great video and keep up the good work!
Yes! That's the idea for these interviews. I picture them as a way to pass the work day for those who just want to sit by and listen and work. Glad you were able to do that. Thanks for listening!!
Nice collection buddy, here in Brazil the PS2 was the most popular console because you could buy the console and their games pirate way, which was the cheapest way to get, nobody cared about the internet connection, and Xbox must have life and it was expensive, and since everything in Brazil is costly so everyone chooses for a low price
I'm glad you were still able to experience the PS2! There were a lot of great games for it. Thanks for watching!
Man they need to drop a Power Stone 3 for all consoles
Heck yeah that would be a banger! Thanks for watching.
Awesome list and video! Thank you!
I have some criticism. I really don't think it was necessary to spend over half the video talking about each individual character.
I have not played power stone but now I want try it - thanks for the video.
I do like the PROTO MAN levels of MEGA MAN 5 in the FIRST CASTLE 🏰 of the 2 CASTLES second being DR. WILEY of course.
got a sketch idea for you go back a few consoles back to the ps2 and go xbox era and talk about those old racing games...except go the silent film route and put a white/black filter a mustache and put the subtitles. It would be a good joke video.
Quite tough but a great Dreamcast title. Crumbs, I’m terrible at most shooters but they still reel me in for more. Great stuff buddy; some inspired content recently with the reviews and interview vids 👏 Chat soon!
The ost
LOVED THE MUSIC AND ATMOSPHERE
I've never even played a Dreamcast before but this game could be fun! I see elements in it that remind me of one of my favorite co-op games (Saturday night Slammasters, also Capcom) so I would like to play it sometime
Nice review Seth!😊
Power Stone is such a good job. Playing this game on the PS Vita via the PSP collection is such a treat due to the wide-screen option. Worth picking up regardless of system.
Power Stone and Smash Brothers were developed and came out around the same time. The devs of Power Stone did say in an interview that they designed the game as if it was Nintendo making a fighting game. I love both games, but I think Power Stone is way more fun than Smash Brothers.
The music is burned into my brain and I'm love with it
I really hate fighting games and probably will never play this one. So your one guy can comment about that too. But I know this game has a huge following. The endings do look cheap but man I'll take rogues ending. I want to make a wish....three 19 year olds with tiggo bitties calling me daddy every night. Just need a power stone now
I love Power Stone. I imported a Japanese Dreamcast several months of the US launch just to play it. I bought several games the following weeks, but my day 1 game was Power Stone. It's such a departure from how other fighting games look and feel, and is still fun to play today, especially against friends. I even played the VMU games from it in my car or the library in between college classes. The still image endings never really bugged me, as the story was really just an excuse for the gameplay and setting. Arcade games rarely had lengthly endings anyway. I just wanted the satisfaction of picking up a hammer and smashing my opponent with it. The Dreamcast was just special- it's one of those consoles that has very much its own look and feel to its games. The bright colors, speedy gameplay... it's not hard to pick out a Dreamcast game from a crowd.
I also am bad at fighting games, lol. They aren't usually my cup of tea, but I don't hate them, so I'm always down to give it a try if people are gathered round. 1:02 now I wonder how much of this was Walmart. I never saw a Dreamcast kiosk in Walmart, and that was where I got to play N64, which led to me buying those consoles and games later in life. 1:50 I like the unique twist on the standard "tournament." It still leads to similar game play, but I like them trying to add some uniqueness. I like that the fighters no only have unique strengths/weaknesses, but motives. That definitely gives the game some depth. I think part of the reason I don't love fighting games is that it's hard to empathize with the characters when story is so light. 4:57 rofl, I love it. It is impossible to know how to pronounce every name 6:37 I even like simplistic moves like "I just want the shiny gem" haha. Why over think it? 7:13 so... he seems like the hero of this story, right? lol, his motives are maybe TOO pure. 8:14 fun gimmick... but too bad it was a cheap screen and voice over. 9:15 I think I see where this is going... lol. Yup! 10:19 I do like a special attack you have to build up to. That's a fun mechanic. 11:00 haha, the rug got pulled out from under you on that one! 12:02 agreed. I always feel like fighting games fail to shine until you have a friend to play against. Even simpler ones like Dr. Mario or Wario's Woods are pretty meh until you have a friend to play against 13:20 this is a hard question! I mean, I'm no pro-gamer, so I'm pretty middling at a lot of games I love... but lemme think. I think the ones I suck at the worst are the multiplayer shooter arenas like Halo, Counter Strike, etc... I'm just not great at seeking and destroying without exposing my back to getting ganked. This changes a bit when there is an objective like capture points, or escorting a payload or something, as it makes it more clear what the success metrics are, as opposed to just guessing what the other team will do, out-thinking and out twitching them (neither of which I'm good at)
This game is all my childwood. I love the OST composed by the great Jesper Kyd
I'm totally with you on time limits. As much as I love the idea of how this game works, being so tightly scheduled always makes me wary of picking it up again
I'm glad the time limit isn't too strict and you can typically get one of the two good endings, but I just have so much fun exploring that I wanted to do it on my own time. I get the time limit... I just don't like it haha. Thanks for watching!
Do Have a Look at Demon Sword since you reviewed Legend of Kage
I will absolutely do that! Thanks for the suggestion and thanks for watching.
Maze Hunter……………… this was the best out of all the 3D games on the 8 bit system. I thought I really fell into the abyss when he fell off the ledge‼️‼️‼️🎯🎯🎯😱😱😱😱😱😱
What a time to be alive! The Master System had some decent 3D games. I need to get Maze Hunter into my personal collection sometime. Thanks for watching!
Pikmin does fly under the radar. Glad you made review of Pikman, keep going.
Yeah, I'm glad I did too, it was a fun review to make! I should keep playing the Pikmin games to see what else the franchise has to offer. Thanks for watching and dropping a comment!
Ghoul School, Frankenstein: The Monster Returns, Shadowgate and Uninvited are amongst my top favorite NES games in general.
Love to hear it! There's a few in here that I discovered that I've added to my wishlist. Frankenstein: The Monster Returns looks awesome. Thanks for watching and dropping a comment.
@@TigerChainsawVideoGames Oh it is, I have had my copy since I was as a kid.
I love your interviews! Absolutely fantastic content adding to the depth of the gaming-community knowledge base :-D It's always interesting hearing about people's careers path that didn't just pick an industry and stick with it, but kind of explored and found their way. 8:59 I also love when a game just organically evolves instead of being designed top down. 10:07 it is crazy that they had things so far under way before they hired someone to write the story. This seems so backward to me. Also a gargantuan task to come into an existing ecosystem and then make the story 13:30 Grr!!! Gosh dang it Walmart! 17:42 haha, this sounds so weird, but it makes sense. If you just use 1 character model, it saves a lot of time/work/memory/etc... 18:48 Bravo, Maurice! That is crazy to step into something so constrained and in motion and make it work. That's just impressive from an employee-skills perspective. 22:10 it's crazy how much of tech is this way. Just a bunch of people duct-taping and gluing things together against impossible timelines. It's true in big tech companies too. 24:09 I've never actually seen Ryan O'Neal's "Driver," but I like his movies in general. I'll have to check this one out. 24:27 now I'm curious if there are any vestiges of the cheat codes still in there. Sometimes dev cheats get disabled, but with a little bit of editing you can re-enable them. Could be an interesting thing for a programmer to poke around and look for 26:31 this is also crazy. There are so many things in tech like this, where some lynchpin piece is just on one dude's laptop. I would get on people to commit things to the code-repo and just put them in a testing place, but it's a real chore to get people to back up and share everything. 29:00 haha! Awesome tidbit! He made all of them, and he mostly just had free reign! So cool! 30:09 this constraint by Walmart probably added to the fun, since I know gamers viewed it as a challenge to try to hit people. If they were just hittable, it wouldn't have made people feel the urge to really try and do it, haha 33:08 take that Mrs. Crabapple!!! haha 34:32 this is such an important point! People assume GTA was the pioneer, and in many ways it was, but this one definitely beat GTA to the 3D punch 36:18 your favorite game, Tiger :P 37:29 I love all the Borderlands game. I still need to play the Pre-Sequel though. I was going to, but then some friends fell through and I never got around to playing that one. 41:36 hmm... sounds like an interesting movie 42:10 right?!? Super diverse and super impressive! 43:31 I agree with Maurice! Very good question! 47:15 Maurice is clearly an excellent writer if he can just let the teams dictate cities, and he'll craft a story around them. Haha, such an interesting backwards-flow of story writing, but good on him for making it work with the constraints he was always given 51:26 haha, awesome little story! Yeah, I could see how an actor wouldn't understand that, especially in 2000 53:00 it's so odd to hear a writer that is so practical. I'm used to the creative types being pie-in-the-sky and not pragmatic, but Maurice feels like he's super good to work with, because he's always willing to put int he work to get around the practical problems and even accept that things just might not make financial sense. 55:43 yeah, sad that brand recognition is such a big piece, but it makes sense. Excellent interview, Tiger! Top notch work as always!
Your enthusiasm for the interviews drives me to continue to publish them when I know they will ultimately fail to garner a viewership. Thank you for all the excitement. That is rare I bet to hire someone for a project so late into development to carve out a story. I thought the Walmart snippet was particularly interesting. It makes sense that a retailer like that would have so much power but it's laughable for them to flex it over the concern that Driver was too violent. I haven't seen "The Driver" either but I really should after the inspiration that it created. There are PLENTY of cheat codes for Driver. One of the things I touched on in my review and retrospective of Driver is the incredible main menu. It even has a section just dedicated to "cheat codes" and you better believe I used it on the last level hehe. The voicemails he made were outright hilarious, I got a kick just listening to them. Driver for sure beat GTA to the punch, and the two had a rivalry in the early 2000s, but obviously we know that GTA would ultimately win. I loved the fact that they picked the cities first and then just told Maurice to write a story around them. He's very practical, and that's something that I think comes from experience. As much as I love the Driver series, I think it would need a serious refresher to be successful in today's age. Thanks again for listening!
Ah yes, pikmin 1, tied with tmnt shredders revenge and bioshock 2 for my favorite game of all time
That is some seriously high praise! I still need to play TMNT Shredder's Revenge myself, but I did really enjoy Bioshock 2. Thanks for watching and dropping a comment!
Actually, he wasn't the only person that wrote for the Driver series of video games, as the person that had played Huggy Bear in Starsky and Hutch also did writing for the original Driver, and other people helped him to write the series as well.
@@paxhumana2015 hey there, I encourage you to listen to the full interview where he brings up Antonio Fargas and his contributions to Driver 2. Thanks for checking out this interview!
Very cool to hear him talk about the different workings of the team and his crazy hours 11-4am. I do understand him though when your that deep into a project and you just want it to succeed and sometimes it can be hard to see what's really going on when there is all that pressure like he was mentioning towards the end. He's definitely done some cool things in his career and glad he's still getting to write his own game stories
yeah @50:00 there is a great anecdote about Huggy Bear!
I own 7 of these games: all 4 Bases Loaded, both Baseball Stars, and Roger Clemens. Tough to say which one I liked the best. Baseball Stars was amazing but my fondest memories are of Bases Loaded II and Roger Clemens. Bases Loaded 3 was weird because you couldn't have a full season (if I remember correctly).
So many people pick Baseball Stars and for good reason. It's a very polished game for the time. I recently got Roger Clemens into my collection and I'd like to play it myself to get a better feel for it. Thanks for dropping a comment and watching!
The fact that part1 and 2 are free a the xbox store

Yeah, that's not my strong suit haha. Thanks for watching though.
Great review! Pikmin 2 is the most difficult of the series. I'd recommend it but you can jump to #3 straight away. #4 is also amazing on Switch. If you like the first you'll like them all!
Thanks for the input on the series! I would love to play through them in order but I'll prepare for a harder challenge with 2. Thanks for watching.
I’ve heard of Pikmin just never played it. Awesome review though
Pikmin is tons of fun! Give it a shot sometime my guy. Thanks for watching.

Thanks, Mark! Pikmin is a super fun game.
Hello Everyone 🎉
Hey Bro I lost my account but I’m back can I have another sub bro
I've never played much of Pikmin as the timer pisses me off. It's a great game and well worth your score I just hate games with time limits. I didn't know there were multiple endings. I'd like to see things go south and when the pikmin realize he doesn't have all the ship parts to leave they brutally jump him, run a gang bang, then eat his ass to death.
Yeah the timer can be an anxiety inducer but I think you really have to mess around for it to effect the overall game outcome. The endings are pretty cool. Kinda surprised this comment came through after some of the phrases you used lol
Nice review! I understand why people like this type of game, but it's just not for me. I've tried it, and I wasn't able to get invested in it back in the day! But if you liked the 1st one so much, you should definitely play the sequels! Great video and keep up the good work!
It's not for everyone, but it's still a great game to me. It's almost a relaxing game despite the timer. The nature and ease of the levels make for a chill time. Thanks for watching! I will try and play the sequels.
Never played this series but I did like Overlord: Dark Legend on Wii, which I gather has a similar play mechanic
I will have to check that one out, I haven't heard of that one! Thanks for watching.
The sequels to Pikmin are kind of just more of the same which is all I'd want out of Pikmin sequels so if you want more of the same then go for it but it's not like you'd be missing out on any revolutionary changes. One of my all time favorite video game franchises.
If they are more of the same, then I definitely need to play them. I don't need them to reinvite the wheel, I had a blast with the original so I'm sure I'll love the sequels. Thanks for watching!
My first Pikmin was actually Pikmin 3 Deluxe. It’s definitely a little more lax than the first game.
I need to play the series more, I'm excited to dig into it. Thanks for watching!
I've never played this but I played lemmings when I was a kid and liked that so I think this would be fun to play! Nice review
I think the gameplay is something that you might like. Thanks for watching! : )
Man, I didn't get to play GameCube until 2004... but that's because I was focused on college and being in a cult for a few years there :P 2:20 I've never played Pikmin, but I had heard about it a lot... and yet I had no idea it had 3 endings! 3:01 wow, dark for a Nintendo game! 4:03 I can see being freaked out by the time. Sometimes I'm in the mood for "pressure" and other times I just wanna relax and have fun. It does affect which games I choose when. 5:18 "loyal" is the nice way to describe these lemmings, lol 5:49 haha, another little morbid chunk of a Nintendo game 6:13 it's like "Heart of Darkness" all over again :P I totally get it. I used to be a benevolent hero in every game. I think it was GTA5 before I ever played "evil" at all 8:25 I do like the puzzle element. Yeah, you nailed it right after that it's mixed with RTS too. It's an interesting fusion 9:42 Tiger and his horde of Pikmin soldiers!!! 10:36 I agree that the big allure of this one is the fresh-ideas. Wow! 9.1 is a super high score! Nice!
Always furthering your education Master Cynic! Yeah, the endings add a nice touch to the game in terms of having goals instead of just trying to take off again. LOL I know, right? Poor little Olimar. I'm not a fan of timers haha but thankfully this was the first game that it really didn't bother me that much. You really have to dilly-dally to screw it up. Ugh, I felt so bad when I led them into danger : ( but then I grew numb. I figured this would be a game you might enjoy with the puzzle elements to it. It's a high scoring game, but one I think is a must-own for the GameCube. Such a fun game! Thanks for watching buddy.
I'll have to play this game eventually. I tried Pikmin 3 but need to play the 1st one
You should!! The first is a blast. I need to play the sequels next. Thanks for watching buddy!
I remember when this game came out and I begged for a Sega Saturn for this and Daytona. I remember thinking 'how can games possibly ever look better'? Boy, was I wrong lol. Really fun game and the physics were something new to the genre.
Haha hindsight is always 20/20! I really want to dig into Daytona soon. Thanks for watching!
Psycho fox
Awesome game! I love the platforming elements on it. Thanks for watching.
MEGA MAN 5 OR 3 IS SECOND BEST
The series is great overall. Thanks for watching!
