    Awseome Tutorial. You are very thorough.
    I've been a hairstylist for 40 years and now that all the boys want perms, make sure you tell them to NOT WEAR ANY HATS for at least 4 or more days After the perm or it will go straight and/ or weaken the curl dramatically!
    I had this happen with a 17 yr old recently, who had fantastic bouncy curls after the perm, but went to baseball practice an hour after the perm and wore a baseball cap.
    I had no idea he was going to do that.
    When he took off his baseball cap the hair on the top and sides was STRAIGHT!!
    Yes. The curl came back after wetting it but it's not as strong and bouncy, and in my 40 years of doing hair, I've never seen this happen.
    But I also never had a client wear a hat right after the perm.
    So, Warning to everyone, just hold off wearing Any Hats for a few days or longer.
    I think this is important information because we have soo many males teens and young men getting perms now and also playing sports.
    Also, Never dry hair with a towel, or scrub the hair with a towel to dry.
    Alway use a good quality moisture repair shampoo and conditioner, shampoo every other day or 3rd day, and use a good Curl Cream instead of gels, to hydrate the curl and scrunch the curls to get definition. Use a pick and not a brush.

      These are awesome tips! Just watched your tutorial a week after my sons first perm and in preparation for the next (because I’m doing it!), and no wonder his curls are already not so curly! His stylist did not follow your rules and did so many things that ultimately did not help his curls in the long run. Thank you so much for all the explanation… telling WHY we must do something is so important and I’m sure you’ve helped a lot of people’s perms stay curly longer. ❤

    I haven't done a perm in over 20 years, but my husband wants a perm. I had to watch your video for a refresher. You explained it quite well and I greatly appreciate it. I did find it funny that now perms are done with alternating size rods. In the 90s and 2000s I'd get odd looks when I'd bring in my own rods and ask them to alternate. It looked more natural that way.

    I found your channel yesterday, and I'm so glad I did. You're a great teacher. I watched this video a couole times. I went out a bought all the supplies to perm my 15 yr old son. I followed your instructions step by step. I must say my son's face said it all when he looked in the mirror. He loves his hair. I love his "new" hairdo too. Thanks for being so upbeat, and precise w/your instructions. At one point I wanted to give up because his hair is shorter and I should have used shorter rods. I kept trying and was able to get the hair rolled. Your upbeat voice kept me in a positive mood. Thank you ❤

    • @TheAngeSchofield
      @TheAngeSchofield  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you for watching my video ❤️ I always have them wait a week or two before re-perming. Sometimes on super thick and straight hair a tighter perm is needed to help combat the thickness. Did you take small enough sections and saturate the perm rods well? Sometimes that can also be the cause of the perm loosening. Hopefully that all makes sense

      I would say after 5 months you would be fine using this same perm. If you are nervous of damage I would just check the curl after 10 min (gently 1/2 unroll one perm rod and see if there is curl, if it’s limp looking and not as tight as you want let it process the full time) I’m so glad you guys found success with your first perm and I am so happy I was about to guide you during it ❤️

      O no, so sorry you found this a little too late but just think the next perm with be great. Personally I would wait atleast a week just to give the hair time to recover. Just know the next time you perm the timing might be less for the perm to sit since you already permed it. So do a curl test before rinsing the solution off.

    First off, I must say your lashes are lovely! Also, the pic of the teen at the beginning on the left side, is that your son? He looks just like my son. I haven't done a perm in about 25 years and came here to get a refresher. I purchased a box perm from Sally's and it did not include the papers. No biggie as I have a few packs of papers from way back then. My question is: Can the papers not work well if they are old? They kept falling apart before I could roll it on the rod. Some of them, I doubled and tripled just to keep it on the rod. I was going crazy and almost quit and I only had to do about 18 rods. I finally managed to get through it all and the perm looks pretty good. Thank you so much for your time and helpful videos.

    Can you give me some tips on how to maintain a perm ?? Can you sleep on it right after or should we wear a silk cap ? This is for my teen son !

    • @TheAngeSchofield
      @TheAngeSchofield  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      To maintain… I would say using a curly hair shampoo, don’t rub a towel on the hair while it is wet, also be careful combing it while it’s wet. You could do a silk pillowcase or a cap

      It gives a more natural look, typically curly hair isn’t the exact same curl pattern.

    I wish i could do what i want with my hair. I want a perm simply because i love curls and im one of the only people in my entire family that doesnt have waves or curls. Me and my grandma made a secret plan to have her perm my hair right before my parents make me get it cut. Hopefully my hair will be just pong enough for it.

    Is it better to color the hair before the perm or the other way around if the color is done afterwards does it decrease the body of the perm or what are the cons of it what are the wait times if it's color prior to a perm and are there special preparations?

    • @TheAngeSchofield
      @TheAngeSchofield  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No I recommend perming the hair first and then coloring atleast 2 weeks after your perm. It does depend on the integrity of your hair… if hair is dry and damaged I wouldn’t do both. But if your hair is healthy you can’t wait the 2 weeks +. As far as softening perm curls with coloring the hair after …. There is such a small chance of that’s happening I would t worry about it BUT same as before if you decide to use bleach after a perm it will damage your hair

    Very informative.... But slightly offended at the "so if you're trying to learn how to perm your own hair and you need to color your hair and you're a female" like men don't color their hair and want to learn to perm their own hair... So what if you need to do root touch up regardless if you're a male or female. Should it be done before doing a perm or wait a week after perming then do a root touch up?

    • @TheAngeSchofield

      To create that temporary perm you would do exactly what I did in this video BUT no perm solution just sit under the dryer for 20-30 minutes and once the rods are dry you remove the rods 😊

      Thanks, that all depends on the final results you want. If you want a super tight curl and use smaller rods the hair only needs to be 2 1/2 inches long but if you want a medium curl the hair may need to be 4-5 inches and use a larger perm rod

    • @TheAngeSchofield

      Acid perms are more gentle and alkaline have a stronger ph value. Normally alkaline is best used for normal or resistant hair types.
      The fact that it’s a re perm I wouldn’t use alkaline since it has been permed already

    And how much ml is enough for short hair.. how much did you use?

    • @TheAngeSchofield
      @TheAngeSchofield  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have to use the neutralizer with every perm (this is what stops the perm from processing and if not used it will cause damage) not all perms use an activator.
      A bottle of perm solution is 78-118 ml for this particular hair length I used may 40 ml

    • @TheAngeSchofield

      Your hair might curl easier with it already being curly. As far as tight or looser with the length of your hair that all depends on perm rods you use. The small the rod the tighter the perm will be… if you use a larger rod (green or even peach/orange) it will be looser
