- Alec wanted change up his look before heading off to med school.
Since his hair has a natural bend, we decided to go for a mid drop fade with a wave perm on top to accentuate his waves.

This is perfect. Excellent work, sir!!. I’ll be doing my son’s very straight hair like this this weekend. I’m not a beautician, but I grew up with a salon in my home. Perm smells like home to me lol. Thank you for posting this, I watched my mom do many, many perms (80s kid), so this rounded out the game plan. Meeting my mom at the supply house tomorrow, she doesn’t do hair anymore but has kept her license up. I’ll be taking him to a barber for the cut after the perm though!! Let someone else clean up the edges 😊

Dope man ! Question, I just got my perm and the lady didn’t wash out the perm solution with water like you did before she applied the neutralizer. What’s going to happen now ? I guess I’m asking, what is the point of washing the perm out and then adding the neutralizer ? Is it fine if she just put the neutralizer without washing out the perm solution with water ? I see some videos curling the rods forward and other videos curling them backwards. does it make a difference?
I only curled some backwards once I reached the backside of the crown. At first you wouldn’t notice a big difference, but yes it affects the curl direction

Hey can I know what will happen if I had shampoo my hair a few hours after getting the perm? I got a perm and shampooed a few hours after doing it so I'm worry the curls might be screwed
You should wait at least 36-48 hours before washing your hair with shampoo. But I wouldn’t say it’s a total loss, you probably just loosened the curls

I went to a one piece hair salon in Jakarta to get a perm and the stylist blowdried my hair right after without a diffuser. The result was terrible. It was messy af. I had to cut my hair 3 days later.

Hair on top has to be minimum 6 inches on top for it to wrap around the larger rods which give it more of a wave rather than a curl

Depends on the look you’re going for. Always prep using a texture spray first. And then:
For wet look - Pomade
For natural shine - Creme or Shine Paste
For matte look - Matte Paste or clay
Different brands will give their products different name but they are all variations of the three I mentioned

@@judd__ from my understanding you can use products the day of but just have to avoid washing it or getting it wet at all for 48 hours. As you can see in the video he uses product on him immediately following the perm

@@Fifty_Ft getting a loose wave requires larger rods. Larger rods = larger circumference = longer length of hair on top. 6 in is what I tell people because it gives me enough canvas to comfortably wrap around the larger rods which then I can trim according to the style after the perm is done
How often should you wash your hair? Should I limit using shampoo and conditioner every day to just every other day?
It really depends. Just understand that constant shampooing will dry out your hair and scalp but it’s doing what it’s meant to do. It’s why we use fabric softener for our clothes after we put it through the wash. Same thing.
Personally, I shampoo and condition on day 1. Then if I need to get it wet again on day 2, I’ll just run it under some warm water and give my scalp a nice scrub. And then on day 3 I’ll use shampoo and conditioner again.
But this is because I usually work out throughout the week and I’m sweating. My scalp also breaks out in psoriasis spots when it has too much build up.
So find a system that works for you but understand that shampoo is a tool to cleanse, conditioner is a tool to moisturize, and having a balance of natural oils in your hair is a good thing.

Orange rods. Perm rod sizes are usually based on color. He is using orange so safe to say Sally’s orange rods would be your best option!
