We Just Uncovered A Secret Held By This Hill For Thousands Of Years!

  • For several years now Mike has been wanting to get some of us together to do some serious test holes digs on a spot where he had found some debitage. We were able to get three of us on this day and the results were fantastic. The three of us dug less than three hours and found more than a half dozen nice arrowheads, and other artifacts thus uncovering a secret held by this hill for thousands of years. This is a textbook example of what an ancient Native American site should be. Come along and watch us as we discover a brand new site for future digs and help us name the site.

      @jaredharris1940 you have to add you ignorant comments on a genuine heartfelt comment about the loss of Randy's mom. It just shows you don't have enough sense to even navigate
      TH-cam. You sir are an idiot. Why don't you pat yourself on the back, take your participation trophy and crawl back under your rock.

    How about sharing with us the reason behind heat treating the material that they work. Is it before making the point or after they were finished. Vios Con Dios.

    • @HeartbreakerRelics
      @HeartbreakerRelics  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks. The heat treatment was before the stone was worked. This made it easier to flake and work. They would build a pit, bury the rocks and build afire on top, cover the coals of the and leave them to heat the rocks to hopefully around four or five hundred degrees. At least that's the way I understand it.

    Spike, do y’all know where the quarries are for the source of the flint types y’all find? Or is chert everywhere down there? Blow the leaves off the side of that bank and wait for a good rain, hard tell how much has eroded back. Bet the creek is good too.

    • @HeartbreakerRelics
      @HeartbreakerRelics  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The chert here is just river gravel, Mississippi Citronel gravel chert to be exact. It is in almost every creek and stream. We have looked at this creek in the past but there is so much sand in it. We're going to have to figure out a way to hunt it. We'll have to try the leaf blower thing. Thanks Scott. Merry Christmas!

    I'm just glad that you're conducting this on your own land. I've seen many of these channels that are essentially looting since they're usually on public land and definitely do not have any sort of permission. On private land with permission is different.
    I've just had to deal with looters and it's worse than pulling teeth. I suppose they know they've looted the material and aren't too keen on being identified.
    Glad you care about the pottery too. Finding a whole dropped pot would be sweet.
    Sorry but it looks like you excavated the hole with a hand grenade 😂

    Native camp sites are interesting. It surprises me how much stuff they lost right in the middle of camps. You figure if they dropped a tool another native would of picked it up and used it.. I imagine they didn't just throw there trash on the ground right in middle of camp. Imagine sometimes for whatever circumstance everything got left right where it was last used slowly getting covered up by time.

    • @HeartbreakerRelics
      @HeartbreakerRelics  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I've thought of this very thing many times. I suppose with all the leaves and litter on the ground it was easy to loose things.

      Could the stuff they left be there because of damage or being worn out? Maybe they did just drop stuff that they didn't want because it was natural and didn't bother anyone to see on the ground? It doesn't seem like they'd lose that much stuff in one visit, but if they lived there for a while or came there often they could have lost it over a long time. Seems like there are different styles of points so the area was probably used for a long time by different tribes.

      Exactly right IMO on both points. A lot of it is used up and thrown away and there were people on these ridges on and off for millennia and they left a lot behind.

      the natives were most propably driven out as in most of this country, placed on reservation, murdered, etc.

      In the case of the artifacts we are finding, they were left behind thousands of years before European contact. If they were driven out it was by other natives.

    I have around 900 yatds of a major creek that flows through my place
    It has never been explored for artifacts. I have found 100,s of artifacts around my place. I have no idea how or where to start looking around the creek. There is a major indugenous trade route about 2 miles from my place and they lived here.

And that’s how I got my war ax , as a geologist said it was, wish I knew how to put its picture on here? I’d call it Muddy Waters site. So why is the inside of that pottery burnt? Is that some sort of water proofing technique they used. Once heard they burned grass and corn silks in fired pottery to do that. Don’t give up on that site….wonderful discoveries may be inches away.

    • @HeartbreakerRelics
      @HeartbreakerRelics  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think that's what it is Ben. I think your video explaining the dark insides of the pottery by burning pine needles under it for waterproofing is the best I've heard. In fact I've mentioned that to people that ask. I'm going with that until someone shows me something better lol.

      Dig some shovel test units spaced at about 15m (50'). You can do round or square holes around 50cm (20') in diameter or length. Then if you find something dig more holes in between and you should be able to identify the area.

      @@HeartbreakerRelics I found a spot on mu land that's an old stream. It used to be alot bigger so I think they might have camped there because in three shovel fulls I found 2 flakes and a small piece of a broken base. It was just super cold so I weenied out lol. Does point hunting destroy archeology?

    • @HeartbreakerRelics
      @HeartbreakerRelics  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's a good question and the answer is yes. That said, there a literally thousands if not millions of these sites across the north and south American continents. Let's focus on North America, specifically The United States. Academia doesn't have the resources to investigate or excavate the sites they are interested in now. Leaving them for the future is not an option because they are being destroyed by the hundreds every day by development. We can't stop progress and we wouldn't if we could. The discoveries made by avocational archaeologists and relic hunters is tremendous! We are basically the eyes of academia. Again they don't have the resources to hunt for these sites. So, we are doing as much for archaeology as academia is doing and we are proud of it.

    • @Davefinney370
      @Davefinney370 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Well you seem like good guys and it looks like a blast. I suspected it might just be these sites are more common than someone like me knows. What do you imagine you would have to pull out of the ground that would get academia excited?

    • @HeartbreakerRelics
      @HeartbreakerRelics  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      These sites are very common. Things like dugout canoes or any organic finds get academia excited because they are so rare.
