This watch is amazing. Bought it just over a year ago and it has the highest rotation in collection. Absolute strap monster!!! Works on a nato, bracelet or leather strap. Perfect watch

A field watch with polished case and mesh bracelet???? I prefer the red tipped seconds hand on my SNK.
The replacement for my SNK will still be the Hamilton field auto I think.
I'm not a fan of the mesh bracelet so I'd go for the other but this is definitely a future purchase for me
Sure the size suits the pilot watch style.. but the snk809 was special.. the only upgrading it needed was the movement and the crystal.. otherwise, it was already perfect..
A red point on the seconds hand would have broken up that dial a bit more.
I think the case should be bead-blasted like the original 809, and the 12 o' clock triangle needs to be lumed. Though maybe a comparison video with this and the Orient Flight V2 could be in the cards.
Very good review. My 55-year old eyes find this dial (SRPH23) difficult to read. (I wish I had gotten the SRPH25 instead.). It seems the numbers are silver instead of white. Overall I really like the aesthetic of this watch. I agree a sapphire crystal would make this much more of a bargain.
Not bad for 275 USD tbh. With a discount it should definitely be a good deal around 230 bucks.
SNK was my first automatic watch and a good gateway into it. Was not expensive and liked the smaller size as I was getting use to wearing a watch again.
The way kavar tells me these things sell...I'm going to assume its a gateway for many new collectors just starting as well!
Got the same model a few months ago. Allz nearly perfect except a few , though the hands and dots luminate brightly at night, yet if the triangular pointer at 12 position too was made luminous, it would have been convenient to make it a reference point for time positions at night.
Also at certain angles the glass becomes opaque, fitting a sapphire would have enhanced the product.
Definitely getting this. Had the OG version but gifted to a frienda while back.

Looks good. While I appreciate the trend of watches getting smaller, I think this watch really benefits from the larger size to make the hour and minute indices bigger and more legible than the previous model.

It is somewhat reminiscent of the Hamilton Khaki field. I really like this Seiko.
Im considering between sprh29 (the green version) and sprg33 right now. Both of them are currently selling at a same price here. Really dont know which one to get 😅

Hello, nice review on the new SRPH. I have a question on the SNK that you showed at the 30 second mark. I really like that polish finish. The pictures I've seen on the various online retailers website showed those SNK to have brushed finish. Are those just poor quality pictures? or is your SNK a particular special model? Thanks.
Different colorways have different finishing some have a bead blasted look and some have a full patina look depending on the color of the dial
Dome crystal, polished bezel … it got a lot less practical as a field watch. And moving the crown to 3 o’clock makes it a Seiko 4. 😏

What is the JDM model #? Imo it is too thick for this style of watch, and also the numbers should be lumed. Sapphire would've been a welcomed addition too.

One problem with dome mineral watches, they scratch... Too bad it isnt sapphire.

It's just the model code. I think in this series case srpg is the type A dial and srph is the type B.

A flieger isn't a replacement for a field watch.
snk809 for example was a flieger same as this one. Type B.

If you'd owned an SNK809, this is straight up a more expensive downgrade. Larger and thicker making it look disproportionately chunky for the design, with an inferior print on the dial. The only thing it has going for it is an arguably better bracelet in some eyes. Damn, my condolences.
I own the white snk from the last generation that I bought the last year, and I'm regretting not waiting for this because of the size, 37mm is too small for me and this would be far better. However, for the price of this new mode... meh, you can add another 70$ and you get a Laco flieger.
Now, the Seiko 5 SNGZ model is gorgeous

The size is fine for a Type B, and yes overall it's an upgrade, but this won't "bring people into the hobby" in the way the 809 did. The 809 was bead-blasted when everything else wasn't, and could be had for well under a $100 for a long time. So the 809 did 2 things, additionally opening up the modding universe for non-SKS watches.
So when I see it next to that Laco, I really just want the Laco instead for its cleaner and classic design. Or one of any zillions of clones out there for much less. If want something busier, I want the Hamilton Khaki Pilot Day-Date at 3 times the price.
The 809 retailed at 195. You could get them at huge discounts years after it’s release. This one just came out so give it enough time and then we’ll see. As of now it’s only 80 bucks more expensive twenty years after the release of the 809 so not much after adjusting for inflation

Gorgeous hardlex crystal. What a joke. Watches under $200 come with sapphire crystal today and this watch gives us this highly scratchable crystal. So tired of you Seiko lovers who are in denial.
It looks good, and definitely keeps the spirit of the SNK alive. But with that kind of price tag, I seriously doubt it can ever become the legend that the SNK was.

Pretty nice looking Seiko flieger and I love the size. I just picked up a 38 mm khaki field auto on bracelet for $495 from an AD. It’s running -3 fresh out the box and it’s super comfortable. I love Seiko, but considering how inaccurate the more affordable Seiko movements are, the Hamilton was the clear field watch choice for me.

I have a 809, weare it day and night, and I just cheked lost 30 seconds in the last 18 days, that is -1.7 per day.
To me the price/performance is amazing for an automatic!
The size killed me
I got the older version just last june for 100 dollars. 275? Same watch different band 175 more.... Absurd.
Upgraded movement, upgraded water resistance, upgraded bracelet and a bigger, better dial layout vs the overcrowded SNK. Plus, who the heck pays list price for a Seiko 5?😂
