    I ordered two of these based on the reviews. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxqmKabisEv81ul5v7OhvVxxOpt2CJruI- Received them on time and they look good. I really like the handle on these knives as they feel good in my hand. I'm giving them 4 stars on look and feel, but have not had the chance to put them to the test yet. I mostly fish for catfish and can hopefully try them out in the next few days. If they hold an edge throughout a limit of catfish, they'll be worth another star.Update...I used the 9" strong and the 9" fillet on a mess of catfish. I did put a sharpening on these before I started. I want a razor edge to fillet fish but they weren't quite that sharp. The people who gave these knives crappy reviews and said they were sending them back was because they weren't razor sharp. So what, do they not have a knife sharpener?? Good grief! I mean you have to sharpen any knife from time to time.I personally like them and am pleased with them. If you're too lazy to sharpen a knife then hire someone to clean your fish lol.I've never bought a knife in my life that would shave hair right out of the box. Don't be afraid to purchase the knives. They're pretty nice in my opinion.

    As others have mentioned those fillets still have the pin bones in them. Easy to cut out, you just feel for them(located middle of fillet) and then slice along each side and pull the little slice of flesh/bones out. You end up with 4 strips instead of 2 fillets though.
    Walleye skin tastes great too, I scale mine then take the fillet off, remove the pin bones making sure not to cut through the skin. It leaves the fillets whole, gets rid of bones/dark meat and skin fries up nicely.

    If you are trolling, the Viper Spoon rigged with a live night crawler is like a walleye magnet! If you are jigging, suggest using a black/red buck tail jig or a jig and twister tail combination.

    Thanks for sharing this, Ivo! By far the most effective and easiest method I've found for cleaning and filleting a Walleye!! For those wondering how to remove the pin bones...after removing the skin (set your fillet skin-down, cut a notch in the tail, then angle the knife toward the skin slightly, then slowly cut the fillet from the skin), feel for the pin bones with your fingertips and cut along the pin bone line on both sides (the pin bones will end by the tail section, there are no pin bones in the tail piece), making a thin V-shape in the fillet. Should leave your fillets 100% skinless & boneless. I've found this method to be the easiest, by far, and you'll get nearly all the meat off the fish once you've gained some experience. A sharp, 7-inch fillet knife is a must for Walleye. Avoid using overly-large fillet knives, Walleyes are a relatively narrow/cylindrical-shaped fish so 7 inch is about as large of a blade as you'll need.

  • @thundermistlures
    @thundermistlures  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    There is a bone along the rib cage, but you can go around it and then down the rib cage - or if you want to really be safe, you can cut around the rib cage totally and take that meat separately.

  • @thundermistlures

    Glad you are enjoying our videos and thanks for writing in. If you wnat to use live bait, one of the best lures to use is the Viper Spoons and suggest using the SP1 or SP2 sizes. this is the perfect combination of flash, flutter and bait and you should do great with them. Rig them with a live night crawler and the walleye will attack them - check out our walleye videos on line for more Viper Spoon tips!

  • @thundermistlures
    @thundermistlures  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just watched your video - nicely done - it's obvious you have cleaned many :) I do basically the same and go around that area, basically avoiding those bones.
    I'm curious though - why did you not remove the checks? They taste great. I like to accumulate a bit of them and then have a nice "check fry"

  • @thundermistlures
    @thundermistlures  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for tuning in - the fillet is totally boneless around the rib cage and the entire tail section. The only tricky area is when you go around the rib cage to capture the belly meat. There are some fine bones on the top of the rib age area which you can go around and then down the belly to remain boneless - if you stay on top of the rib cage, it is automatically boneless as the walleye bone structure doesn't not have Y bones like a pike has...the walleye is more typical. Good Fishing !

    I really enjoy eating the skin on panfish, I've never eaten walleye or fished for them, we just didn't know how to fish for them in my growing up years, but I've taken an interest in trying to learn how to catch them now in my 50's. I don't have a boat so I'm hoping to learn how to catch them from shore. -- I liked the video and the part about saving the cheek meat, is walleye skin ok to eat? -- thanks for the video

    • @thundermistlures
      @thundermistlures  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ima sheep Leaving the skin on walleyes is perfectly fine and one of the best times to catch walleye form shore, is the first 2 hours, after the sun goes down - good luck :)

  • @thundermistlures
    @thundermistlures  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for the feedback Edward - the Y bones are only at the top of the rib cage, so you can go around them or just avoid the rib meat all together :) All the rest of the meat is totally boneless. Good luck on the water

  • @thundermistlures
    @thundermistlures  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for sharing and although you can certainly get more meat off the belly area, we typically try to avoid that area ( and the related bones ) as if there are any contaminants on the water, the fish will typically store them in their fat and their belly meat.
    Thanks again for taking to time to write to us and we hope you have a great year on the water :)

  • @thundermistlures
    @thundermistlures  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for your feedback - if you go around the pin/Y bones on the rib cage, you can avoid them...or you can just cut around the rib cage. Interesting you say that about the dark muscle meat as I have not heard that before...the dark muscle meat is worth removing for better taste though on any fish :)

    Nice walleye and filets. And it's not only good to use a sharp filet knife. I'd say it's essential, but while some other sharp knives could also be used. Filet knives are better for fileting fish, and they're not very expensive.

    @crazyheffer93 Yes, we have an actual TV show but this year we will not be on the air as we are looking for more sponsors. If we can find 1 or 2 sponsors to put their commercials on our show, we could go back on the air again......hopefully someday soon:)

    @oplah93 Be sure to use a sharp knife and that the knife has a thin blade and you should find it much easier.
    Thanks for writing in and good luck on the water.

    @SSMedic The easiest way - and they are delicious this way might I add - it to fry them up in some butter and garlic. No need to coat them in anything, just put them in your frying pan with butter and garlic and fry them - they are fantastic!
