The problem with all these other Assassin commanders is that they made Ezio Auditore da Firenze who can run WUBRG assassin and play them at a huge discount.
Yeah basically I wanna run him as my commander and run all the other AC cards + some general good assassins, maybe even one or two of those cards that makes everything an assassin
I actually think palazzo archers are great if you're in a deck where you can pump them up, no fliers will be able to sneak through as long as its around

Turn 1, Entomb Colossus Hammer, Turn 2 Lightning Greaves, Turn 3 Ratonhnhaké:ton, swing and get an 11/11 menace. Then on Turn 4 you play Arna Kennerüd and the 11/11 becomes a 21/21
As somebody with a name that used to have an umlaut, and is now spelled with an “e” next to the letter with an umlaut, I can tell you people still mispronounce it 99% if the time.
Bureau Headmaster is insane. Making your Swords XY 2/1 cost instead of 3/2 is a massive difference, so many great equipment become 1 mana total to play and equip. Slam dunk for every equipment deck.
It's worth noting for Ezio Auditore da Firenze, his combat trigger can win the whole game with Ramses, Assassin Lord, so it's not completely nothing. could even get an instant speed kill if you can get flash then freerunning in Ramses while the trigger is on the stack
As a fellow Etrata player I have to say Eldrazi Monument works wonderfully to close out the game especially paired up with cards like Maskwood Nexus. You can swing out with indestructible assassins, the cloaked cards are now 3/3 and when damage inevitably goes through you cloak however many cards that can now continue to block after swinging out and at the beginning of your next upkeep you have opponents cards to freely sacrifice to keep Eldrazi Monument on the board
For What Must Be Done, it's depicting the conclusion of AC3. The world is at risk of a solar flare that will wipe humanity. Desmond (regular guy in the art) has the opportunity to activate someone to stop that from affecting the world, at the cost of his life and releasing Juno (figure behind regular dude), an Isu precursor figure who was sealed away that has the ultimate goal of conquering humanity (I think?). Overall, really flavorful card, destroy everything or bring someone back
I really like assassin’s creed and am going to make an assassin’s deck using them but I agree that Etrata is just better as a commander compared to any of them so I’ll probably just make them the commander
To be fair, I think the AC set does have some good Assassin commanders: my personal favorite is Altair, Edward is great if you want to mix Assassins with Vehicles, and Ezio is obviously good due to being 5C so the most options (though he's even better if you focus on Maskwood Nexus effects that make everything Assassins). Etrata remains my overall favorite because she takes advantage of some of the "face-down" synergies in the set, and also her playstyle matches up to my preferences which can be described as "Edric" :p
I built a cheap Edward pirate boats deck, setting those as the restrictions. And I drew so many cards from Jackdaw thanks to all the treasures I made in each end step
I read it wrong but I've seen the card before and my brain knew it as +10/+0 so no change of opinion really. I also really appreciate vigilance, letting you swing out and still have your best creature up as a blocker is huge.
You gave me a nice wave of nostalgia with that Karona deck, one of my early favorite decks after they printed the goad auras. Was fun but tricky and I had to scrap it in the end
the fourth historical figure(s) you are looking for is Mary Reed and Anne Bonny they were some of the few female pirates during the golden age of piracy. as a pride month special, there's some heavy speculation that the two are queer, there's no real proof, but iirc they were in the games.
They could be bisexual but both got pregnant in the game so they are probably not lesbian, that’s not to say they couldn’t be queer in other ways though
On the art of "What Must Be Done" it's a scen from the ending of assassins creed 3 were Desmond miles, the guy, has to choose to either sacrifice himself or let the world be destroyed. The catch is it will release Juno, the goddes be hind him, from her digital prision.
Become Anon is also really good in Etrata, the Silencer, you use it on her after she gets her combat trigger so that you dodge the self-tuck and she comes in face down ready to get hit number 2 when you flip her face up next time. Escape detection is also amazing with etrata the silencer, one of the only free bounce effects I know of, and it draws a card
Sigurd's pump has to target another creature so there's some hoops to jump through. I might given him a shot, seeing that he's really good at keeping sagas around via the boast trigger. It's like he loves to retell his heroic deeds.
I feel like I’m ever the only one who saw potential in Lydia as a commander at this point. First thing I did was build assassin Surveil tribal. Honestly most fun I’ve had in commander in the last year.
Templar Knights in a nutshell: shove them in Iroas, God of Victory. Your main targets are Thrumming Stone (obviously), The Immortal Sun, Throne of Eldraine, and Oketra’s Monument. If you are looking lose friends, Mindslaver
I don’t know if a hidden blade should have been skipped over, it gives your assassin death touch and first strike, flash it in and kill a blocker/protect your creature or flash it in on defense and kill a big attacker
since templar knight only gets legendary... I'm guessing akroma's memorial would be the first thing to try and protect them considering what it would take to get 5 of them ready to attack on the battlefield. it's honestly a nearly impossible feat of strength to pull off and requires putting what are otherwise like 30 vanilla 2/2 in your deck XD
I run Abstergo in a Rocco deck that tutors up Norin. It's just a small insurance, that if norin dies, I may get him back. Same for Layla and What must be done.
I also think viewpoint synchronization isn't that bad if you have to cast it for 5. You shouldnt really play it outside of landfall if you can't cast it for 3 ever, but comparing it to explosive vegetation style cards which put 2 lands on the battlefield for 4, getting 2 on the field and 1 in hand for 5 isn't a bad deal
I built leonardo within the week he was spoiled. It's a very fun deck. Of course you run stuff like darksteel forge but leonardos ability let's you run goofy stuff like staff of nin too.
Tomer your wrong about Roshan,hidden magister 1:35:17, THIS IS AN EZIO EVERYTHING IS AN ASSASSIN CARD. Nothing is true, EVERYTHING is permitted :). Now we have 4 cards that say the same thing. Maskwood nexus, arcane adapation, Conspiracy, rukaarumel biologist and now Roshan, unless there is more please let me know i want my old gnawbones or some crazy dragon to freerunning in.
Yeah definitely, the strongest Ezio decks will be ones where you run huge haymakers and turn them all into Assassins. Casting Eldrazi Titans for BB is pretty good.
I'm actually aiming to test Hookblade in my Karlov Voltron deck. I always was a fan of Gryff's Boon as a cheap reusable way to buff him by one extra point while also giving him evasion so that 20 commander damage becomes 21 commander damage, but I'd like to see if "two mana for the first equip and two for each subsequent one" is better than "one mana for the first pseudoequip and four mana for each subsequent one". I have Open the Armory still in the deck instead of Steelshaper's Gift specifically because it can fetch Gryff's Boon (my only Aura) for a quick and easy evasion set-up, but now I can go "Steelshaper's Gift into Hookblade" for essentially the same line while saving a mana if I opt to go for an equipment instead. Beyond that, Brotherhood Regalia is a no-brainer for the deck, and Haystack makes me super hype.
Deeply offended by the Cleopatra rating. (obviously not really, opinions are allowed) I actually think you seem like the right person to brew a deck around her - she's fun! important to remember she works with ALL counters and your OPPONENTS creatures - so "gift of the viper" from MH3 puts 3 counters on a legendary, you trade, you draw 3. Got counter doublers? Bristly Bill? Anduril, Narset Reforged? Suddenly every game action you take is putting counters on your cards and then you can even have a subtheme / couple of cards that make the ring tempt you to boost your legendary count. I'm not sure how viable a budget brew of the deck would be, but I think it's a really cool buildaround commander to look into
lol I started building etrata slightly before this set was announced so good to see her get some rep on one of the tiers oh but wrong etrata.... oo this is awkward, if it helps I have deadly fugitive in the 99 Fine... I guess I'll split Deadly Fugitive into another deck as well
Im interested to know why they created the free running mechanic. It bothers me that it is a rip off of prowl because assassins fail if they dont kill their target. Surely for flavor the morbid mechanic would have fit better (if a creature died this turn) especially as there are only 25 cards with the morbid mechanic. Furthermore, free running is all about flowing from one area of the environment to the next with more emphasis on self expression. Reducing the casting cost seems uninspired as several prowl costs give you an alternative effect. I would have liked to see something like if the free running cost was paid becomes unblockable and gains haste. My biggest bugbear is chain assassination for this.
They wanted a mechanic that captured the freeflowing movement of the series and figured the best way to go about it was a mechanic that cared about combat mixed with a mechanic that lets you cast things more efficiently. They specifically looked at prowl as the starting point for freerunning.

since freerunning works with when your commander hits is Chain Assassination a consideration for Toshiro? like dowside he has to hit but upside you do want murder effects

Yes because the condition allowing its casting is a part of the effect that exiled it. If, instead, it was a different ability that allowed its casting, such as a static ability on Edward then you would need Edward on the board. 😀

Desynchronization seems really bad to me. Anything and everything is legendary nowadays and otherwise it's an artifact More often than not it'll just bounce a few nonessential things and maybe an Enchantment or two
Watching mostly out of curiosity, but these cards have to be something real special to get me to care about cards based on a franchise I lost interest in about 10 years ago.

Cleopatra is rad in -1/-1 counter decks. She doesn't specify that the legends that die have to be your legends.

Yes, Ezio's WUBRG is up to 10 extra damage on a swing which certainly can nab games.

I read it wrong but I've seen the card before and my brain knew it as +10/+0 so no change of opinion really. I also really appreciate vigilance, letting you swing out and still have your best creature up as a blocker is huge.

Become Anon is also really good in Etrata, the Silencer, you use it on her after she gets her combat trigger so that you dodge the self-tuck and she comes in face down ready to get hit number 2 when you flip her face up next time.
Escape detection is also amazing with etrata the silencer, one of the only free bounce effects I know of, and it draws a card

since templar knight only gets legendary... I'm guessing akroma's memorial would be the first thing to try and protect them considering what it would take to get 5 of them ready to attack on the battlefield.

I run Abstergo in a Rocco deck that tutors up Norin. It's just a small insurance, that if norin dies, I may get him back. Same for Layla and What must be done.
I also think viewpoint synchronization isn't that bad if you have to cast it for 5. You shouldnt really play it outside of landfall if you can't cast it for 3 ever, but comparing it to explosive vegetation style cards which put 2 lands on the battlefield for 4, getting 2 on the field and 1 in hand for 5 isn't a bad deal

I built leonardo within the week he was spoiled. It's a very fun deck. Of course you run stuff like darksteel forge but leonardos ability let's you run goofy stuff like staff of nin too.

Yeah definitely, the strongest Ezio decks will be ones where you run huge haymakers and turn them all into Assassins. Casting Eldrazi Titans for BB is pretty good.
Aya is good in the 99 for Winota IMO. The token generation can help her snowball hard.
I'm actually aiming to test Hookblade in my Karlov Voltron deck. I always was a fan of Gryff's Boon as a cheap reusable way to buff him by one extra point while also giving him evasion so that 20 commander damage becomes 21 commander damage, but I'd like to see if "two mana for the first equip and two for each subsequent one" is better than "one mana for the first pseudoequip and four mana for each subsequent one". I have Open the Armory still in the deck instead of Steelshaper's Gift specifically because it can fetch Gryff's Boon (my only Aura) for a quick and easy evasion set-up, but now I can go "Steelshaper's Gift into Hookblade" for essentially the same line while saving a mana if I opt to go for an equipment instead.
Beyond that, Brotherhood Regalia is a no-brainer for the deck, and Haystack makes me super hype.
Deeply offended by the Cleopatra rating. (obviously not really, opinions are allowed) I actually think you seem like the right person to brew a deck around her - she's fun! important to remember she works with ALL counters and your OPPONENTS creatures - so "gift of the viper" from MH3 puts 3 counters on a legendary, you trade, you draw 3.
Got counter doublers? Bristly Bill? Anduril, Narset Reforged? Suddenly every game action you take is putting counters on your cards and then you can even have a subtheme / couple of cards that make the ring tempt you to boost your legendary count.
I'm not sure how viable a budget brew of the deck would be, but I think it's a really cool buildaround commander to look into

Im interested to know why they created the free running mechanic. It bothers me that it is a rip off of prowl because assassins fail if they dont kill their target.
Surely for flavor the morbid mechanic would have fit better (if a creature died this turn) especially as there are only 25 cards with the morbid mechanic.
Furthermore, free running is all about flowing from one area of the environment to the next with more emphasis on self expression. Reducing the casting cost seems uninspired as several prowl costs give you an alternative effect. I would have liked to see something like if the free running cost was paid becomes unblockable and gains haste.
My biggest bugbear is chain assassination for this.
They wanted a mechanic that captured the freeflowing movement of the series and figured the best way to go about it was a mechanic that cared about combat mixed with a mechanic that lets you cast things more efficiently. They specifically looked at prowl as the starting point for freerunning.
I love Tomer, but I wish these commander tierlists had other people here so he could have a back and forth discussion on some of the cards.

Yes because the condition allowing its casting is a part of the effect that exiled it. If, instead, it was a different ability that allowed its casting, such as a static ability on Edward then you would need Edward on the board. 😀

More often than not it'll just bounce a few nonessential things and maybe an Enchantment or two
Might be good in a Voltron deck, depending on how your approach it. Bounces some of the board while also leaving your Voltron plan intact.
