We had a customer who wanted us to replace the bed of his truck with a flat bad. After getting it installed we discovered it didn't quite fit correctly.

Enjoyed this episode, Hillbilly is extremely knowledgeable!!! The way he explains and break things down verbally shows his many years of valuable experience!! I like the change of pace (different styles) just adds to this channels content!!
Hillbilly, you're getting a lot more confident in front of the camera. I realize that there's a lot of editing but you'll get more and more free flowing so that there's less editing needed. I'd have just cut the wheel arch a bit forward, RC`D it and went with the flatbed.
@@cjm5229 I'd be kind of annoyed with the folks who built it that I'd have to patch up their mess, but it would be pretty easy to move that arch. It is also just a really short looking bed, so I think I'd rather have the stock one.
@@brianhaygood183 If your this guy using the truck as a camper trailer hauler then yea fixing the old bed is fine. If this was a work truck then the flat bed is a better ideal (more usable and less likely to be damaged). For folk who don't know how I know how this truck is used: the 5th wheel gives it away and used mainly on camping trailers vs a gooseneck which is used for work trailers.

you guys have to be damn near full on mechanics to be able to take these things completely apart to paint and put them back together afterwards. keep up the good work. a little disappointed that the customer/insurance left the damage tailgate like that though
That was the customers decision because he’s going to just get a new one 🤷♂️
I like that Hillbilly is getting to talk more on the videos. You can tell he is nervous but is improving with every video. As a fellow sufferer from stage fright, I can relate.

I have done the B&W turnover installs years ago. Never did one with the bed off. Took me about 4-6 hours (by myself) depending on the truck. Lost track of how many I've done over the years. I used a dead man style of install when working by myself. Consisted of a beam across the bed sides (padded with rags) and a small ratchet strab to "pull" the center section against the bottom of the bed. It worked for me. Great job on the bed repair. I'm sure there are frustrations behind the scenes, but you guys do a really good job of not letting it get the better of you. Being able to adjust to the changes and not waste that precious time you have is pretty awesome! If you were closer, you'd have my business for sure!

In your next Q&A, I would love to hear your recommendations on how to care for a fresh paint job. I’ve heard not to wax it for 2 months, avoid washing for 1 month, etc. to allow the paint to fully harden. Maybe your detail guy could shed some light on this. 👍

Hillbilly I am with you, love the look of a nicely built flatbed especially on a dually. That gloss black flatbed was going to look sharp against the maroon painted Cab, to bad I would be disappointed if I was the owner of the truck.
I want to thank you for going the extra mile and doing body repair the right way instead of cutting corners.

I like how everyone stood in front of the mangled tailgate that I assume the customer didn't want to pay to fix. The bedsides looked great though!

Beautiful work as always... as a person who grew up in a body shop I know the work it takes to complete a job. Sad customer didn't want tailgate fixed to... Beautiful repair and I focus on the scratched tailgate lol...
Bed side and everything looks great at the end then put the old used dented tailgate back on and it just over shadowed all the awesome work. 🤘 Nice switch of gears flatbed to no flatbed

I got a chuckle out of dinner on the last of your video there....he was dancing in the background! When you want to tackle a larger project I have a motorhome that lost it's clear coat!
I would probably cut the "wheel wells" of that flatbed to be longer and call it a day :D
I bet the frame and bed mounts were way off too. If it was just the wheel opening, they coulda made that look decent by trimming it i think.

Why not simply modify the wheel arches on the flatbed? Or have the company that's coming to grab it do the necessary mod ... it sure was a sexy unit and was out by such a small amount 😉

Sometimes, body repair just isn’t enough to satisfy, but if one adds a little paint booth disco into the mix, then all is well. Well done gentlemen and thanks for showing that folks should be having fun while working and learning ( I teach my students this concept dairy).
Thumbs up to the Dodge owner for telling the flatbed company to take there too short flatbed back , and not play in to the waiting game . Got to love a company that will sell you the wrong part just to get paid assuming the customer will wait till they get the correct one.

I always knew you had to know a lot to do auto repair but since I started watching you guys its crazy all the little things you need to know. I appreciate even more you guys who can listen to a car hear and feel the different parts of a car. Totally not a skill I have.

Best money I have spent is a 100 gallon transfer tank with an electric pump. Very handy and saves a ton of time over waiting for crappy fuel cans to empty

Hey Hillbilly, I have an obs powerstroke too. They make all this fancy new junk look bad, I’ve been driving mine for 20 years now and it’s at almost 400k. I had to go feed cattle early yesterday morning, it was 13 degrees out, the old beast fired right up and went to work like it always does.
Great video, as always.
Hilbilly seems to warm up to the camera. I like that. Get the whole crew involved if they are fine with it.

I do have a question is the winter months hard on the batteries of the equipment you have sitting outside? I am asking because I have heard cold weather can drain batteries and sometimes ruin them.
