I spent a lot of years running a couple of those rigs. As soon as I saw that's what you were buying I said to myself I hope he checks the brakes. There's a block on the rear end that connects to brakes and the weld always lets loose. Kind of a design flaw I guess. But more importantly, you guys have summer tracks on that rig. So you can go up and down anything you want but for god sakes don't get caught sideways. If you get on any packed snow and that thing leans to the side even slightly you are going for the ride of your life. There will be no warning and it will be fast and there will be a fouling of the pants. If you are going up a hill make sure you go straight up the hill same with coming back down don't ever go diagonally across the hill. Same goes for tree wells on the flat. It looks like nice flat snow but it's hollow under the tree so stay away from trees. Great fun! Edit: mount a winch on each side, you won't regret it.

100% agree with what you said.. your first time sideways will wake you up. Step one. Check those master cylinders! Matter of fact rebuild them before you start playing….

With Matt's luck with Tracks, be sure to check yours before your first real recovery and look for replacement tracks just in case, as for the Name Paint it PINK and call it the Pink Panther and that way it will already have its own Theme Music

regardless of what color you paint it, or what you name it, make sure your running gear, bearings, brakes, and essential systems are working. That includes the gas gauge. Don't follow Matt's lead an go out with broken equipment. I'll happily watch 10 episodes of you tearing it apart and putting it back together with new parts and making sure it's properly working.

I did notice the "Boss" was not saying much about the current condition of the cat, but Robbie and the team will do a fantastic job of reviving an old cat. looking forwards to that also.

I have heard of big boys and their (even bigger) toys, but you may need to take The Boss out with you if you expect to get some work done with this one.
I would add receiver hitch tubes at multiple places and have a winch that you can pin into any of them to give you several anchor points. Probably wouldn’t be as strong as a permanently mounted one that you should probably have on either end. But in addition to a moveable winch you could make a selection of different attachments that could use the receiver tubes to quickly make an anchor point or a snachblock and have a lot of versatility.

I was about to say if you drive it like that you'll break it in a week, you did so in an hour. It's not a clapped-out old Bronco guys, it's a lot more fragile and expensive to fix, and it's not a toy. Keep driving it fast on hard ground with a bit of snow over it and you'll crack the frame as well, the only suspension is the snow and it needs a foot at least before it's really happy. Treat it like a tractor, not a derby car, tracked vehicles are not racecars. Take it down to Heavy D, he's the UT TH-cam sno cat expert.

I DO like the whiskers on the front. I kinda hope you keep them. :D Paint it Layton Autobody Blue and call it a Cougar cause she's always looking for some fun. Show her some love and she'll have you purring in no time.
Ideas, get some totes that fit under benches, one for tools/bolts/pins etc, a couple for rescue gear ropes/chains/soft shackles etc, one with blankets and Hoodies for people who are cold. Maybe get a couple 12 volt heaters for back. Paint it blue and name it dinner tracks. Cool rig

I d9nt know guys. I think the snow cat is top priority right now. Brakes , the heat & defrosters working , winches , lots of lights inside and out . That thing is pretty sweet and it has lots of room inside. Great find !!

These snow cats machines are so awesome. When you give it a paint job, make it have whiskers again!
Back when I was younger (45 yrs ago), we would use up side down car hoods tied behind 4x4s to sled. 40s hoods with points worked best.
I love the "cat" motif - I think when it's repainted, the whiskers and kitty on the sides should be re-done in a more "professional" manner. 😸
I think you have it right. You know what is needed on it. If I had it I would, like you add a large winch on the front and the rear + some way to run a winch cable over a roller above the rear door to be able to lift if needed. I would also add movable work lights on the roof at front and rear. A good name might be "The Mountain Cat". Wish I had one. Have fun 🙂

Those Ford 300 six cylinders are amazing engines. I've had them in several different trucks through the years as I'm 60 years old. My last one early 90s in a E250 Econoline van I put 340,000 MI with no engine work besides basic maintenance.
i had an 81 Truck 2 tone silver & grey, my dads old work truck, even w noisy lifters it was still nice
Snow plow to clear paths for vehicles you are pulling so it doesn't build up in front and make it harder to recover

You can call your snowcat the the recovery prowler paint it all blue on the side of your machine you can paint yourself a black and yellow cat ready to pounce.

Idk why but I feel this should be the Batty Catty to match your shenanigans, paint it black and keep the whiskers.
If you want something more serious but still fitting, call it the "insert color" LAB (for Layton Auto Body), pick whatever color you paint it, maybe Snow Lab, or maybe do another run with "la" (like lars (layton auto recovery snowcat) or labs (layton auto body snowcat). Just some ideas.
Afterthought with something you mentioned, maybe bombacat (as you mentioned bombardier (?)) this is a play on a Jamaican term "bombaclat". If that is your cup of tea.

Hey Robbie, the Sno Crash Kitty needs a brush cage around the front to mount lights and protect glass, would also be a plus to add a basket on the top for extra tools, ropes ect. Ken C. Vermont

Robby's channel has come a long way! Content that would make the Discovery channel jealous. The crew Robby has is first class and very relatable, build in some back story to increase viewer connection with the cast. Over time replace step by step with middle ground relationship experience, then cut to the final work steps. Lets hear how Dinner came into the fold as well as Hillbilly, full stories. Most important keep it real, people can smell fake from a mile away and will tune out. You and crew are genuine, don't give that up.

I love it!!!! By all means, mechanical issues taken care of first. I agree with putting a slick paint job on it, LED light bars, lights, winches, etc., and call it the "Wildcat" because that rig will be anything but tame by the time you boys finish the project.
I'd paint it Neon Orange, easier to see in the winter.

In my part of the world nobody would pick this Snowcat up. It would have been scrapped. You will have fun with it and rebuild it like the golden nugget. This is awesome and inspires me to not look for the newest and most shiny thing.

Cool find. I'm thinking the linkage came off or broke, to suddenly stop moving. You need a better heater or a second heater, because the fact that it will be used during adverse weather. Definitely needs more lights LED all the way around,and some more interior lights. Cargo rack, Jerry cans, four winches, CB system with a good antenna, and emergency items, and blankets, water and MREs . The seats in back probably has storage. Rhino line the floor, and heck yes paint it and have highly visible strips, neon yellow and blue lettering with logos, over the olive drab body.
Up grade the seats for a better ride. Maybe a air suspension. Anyway really cool, with a lot of potential. Take care and count your blessings amen.
I drove one if these for many seasons at a ski resort. They will almost go anywhere and need to be driven with some respect or your going to have a lot of problems unless money is no object and you have a backup to recover it lol 😆

Winch front and rear, light bars all four sides, fix the defroster, and wipers. Maybe even add a defrost and wipers for the rear. Later in the future, a couple side winches, for side pulling. Weld on attachment points everywhere. Cargo basket for the roof, and rear, above the winch.

if that's the cat with straight 6 ford & wiskers are made from calking.. she was "GRUMPY CAT" cuz finikie.. choke.. was part of it.. i knew orig owner.. i am in Massachusetts.. however i remember it years ago.. same year i met ed long ago passing through utah.. i still laugh cuz i thought i was in nevada for longest time as kid..now 52.. 1988 was last trip i saw cat.. but met ed coming back from cali.. jyst not remembering where i met him.. but cool as f* he is.. kept me thinking about taking everything as it comes & not get angry .. focus.. make it right best you can & help others.. not about $$ with our dying kind.. treat each other for good peoples
you need to get a 1989 f150 4.9L parts truck with a good 300 I6 EFI engine. they are so reliable on starting and running. It's my daily driver for the last 18 years.
Robby...why don't you guys name it the "Cool Cat" and put a cool cartoon-like picture of a cool-macho-tough-looking cat of some kind on both sides...maybe a big cat, a white snow leopard maybe? That would be cool and unique.
A tow dolly can be useful to pull out those front wheel drive cars that get stuck in the snow and pull them out without damaging the front bumpers dragging through the snow.
After getting the brakes sorted and winches fitted definitely getting some creature comforts added inside like a couple of heaters, to help warm up you guys up after you have been playing in the snow 😆
I would think if you needed help in the snow you would want the best item you could get. I guess a Snow Cat might be OK but I am sure yours will be a "POLAR BEAR". That would be a great name!!

Since you are going to paint it, make it look like a TOASTER. Make sure the heater works so when you are on a call you can offer your customers refuge from the cold in the....TOASTER.

Super capacitor banks of 3K farad cells, can make a highly effective off road welder (ref ch Dr. Bass, of Canada using Li-ion). SC have bolted straps, while Li-ion use the lower contact area Static discharge welded connections. So FIVE 2.7v cells, in series, should handle 13.5v. Ergo if the voltage regulator output is 14.5v, SIX cells would be needed for a max voltage of 16.2. Li-ion discharges can be extreme, but SC are lighting in a bottle.

Hey Robby, You need winches, front, back and sides, kinda like Trail Mater. I want to remind you all to be careful exiting the vehicle steping down onto the tracks, remember Trevors fall last year as he got out and cracked his head, I don't want to see that happen to you or any of your crew. I'm excited, this is going to be amazing once you are done putting it all back together and improving it to how you want it. That tug of war was hilarious, glad it got Owen's bumper straightened. This is going to be an epic year with that snow cat, I suggest the name 'Leo' would be a good name.
That thing needs to be named MISS KITTY, or name it after Teddy Rosevelt, he was a rough riding SOB, just like the kat.
Paint it black and white and call it Snoopy. Your crew deserves something special for Christmas 🎄 ✨ ❤
