For Risky Thrifting Vol. 6, I test out 10 more of these thrift electronic items. If you would like to play along, feel free to pause and comment just after the 4 minute mark! Yes, these types of videos are very time consuming. I do similar ones every now and then where I go through guides on PC stuff, replacing parts etc. Or my modification videos. I really appreciate the time taken for videos like this one 👍 Cheers, Dave.
Those late 90s/early 2000s era Sony VCRs seem to be a really solid machines. If I recall correctly that model isn't actually made by Sony (maybe Samsung?).
I think it would be cool to do a follow-up maybe at the end of the next Risky Thrifts, to mention if you got any of your past broken thrifts working.
Good to know. I've owned a model near-identical to this one before, but gave it away to someone who had a bunch of tapes but no VCR. The picture looks pretty good.

I just bought a Magnavox DVD recorder for $8 and it works great
Nice find! My favorite DVD burner is a Magnavox dual VCR/DVD unit.
I enjoy your risky thrifting segments...I myself do the same thing and sometimes I can check stuff in the store, sometimes not...interesting to see what your results are with these continued episodes...keep em up!
I talk about some checks you can do in-store in a different video. It might be time to bring up that topic again.
My guess would have been that 8 out of the 10 items would work….

snowball micophone: it might have a few issues relating to its quality but theres a good chance it will still be usable
realistic microphone: it looks like it might work pretty well, it does look a little plasticky but it otherwise looks pretty good
small cassette recorder: looks very cheap and probably has an issue, still not as cheap as that micky mouse player
modified DVD player: it may work, but i feel like something may have gone wrong with that PAL modification that will come back to bite
jambox: probably works, but only to the extent it was tested, and the note does not specify if there are issues or not
22 inch TV: i would think it would be broken but based on the monitors i’ve seen im just not sure
hifi VCR: looks simple compared to other players/recorders, not as much that can go wrong. i’ll guess that it works
equalizer: i think it will work, but something is telling me you are going to get a very loud high pitched squeal
joystick: it looks pretty much fine to me
card shuffler: it may have an issue like corrosion or getting jammed but i think it might be fine

the cassette recorder might just need new belts. the tv would be good for just testing vcr's or dvd players

I bought a variety pack of belts awhile back, and I've been meaning to do a belt changing vid. Not sure if this Optimus will be the featured cassette recorder, however.
