I was 16 and Ten Years After was my first concert on August 16, 1975 in Minnesota. We had floor seats 20 rows from the stage but when TYA came out we rushed to the stage and got about 15' from the band. I remember Leo Lyons on the bass bouncing up and down all night and Alvin Lee blowing my young mind! Fleetwood Mac opened for them with a hot, new singer and fantastic guitar player. During their set the guy behind us had a vodka-spiked watermelon he shared because he wanted to check out Stevie Nicks with our binoculars.
Listen to Alvin Lee playing he is the best guitar player I ever seen and heard on the ten years after records Love you mr Alvin Lee rip rest in peace my favorite guitar 🎸 player you are. The best guitar player in the world 🌍
Just fantastic , it's about soul , pure guitarist , old school ,,, there's not that many around , I hope he will be back next life , do more of it , ,,,,,
Thank ever so much sweet Alvin! So long ago but fresh im my mind, I'll never forget you!Have seen you 3x im Amsterdam! RIP Alvin Love Willy from Amsterdam ( blond with the nice legs)
@@mumbles552 I'm not surprised about Alvin stealing the show. I saw JW live twice in the 70's. Although he was my favourite guitar player, at that time, I thought, that live, he was self-indulgent to the point of being boring. Every song had the same never ending solo.
Funny how Alvin never used his pinky finger but managed most of his complex soloing sliding to the notes instead. That's how he got his unusual and unique style. A few great players have passed away recently inc EVH Johnny Winter Gary Moore Stuart Fraser Rory Gallagher BB King.
That combined with Alvin didn't use foot pedals, fuzz boxes, wah-wah bars, or any of the other gimmicks of the day. He didn't read music either. He played purely by instinct and feel straight from the hip with a lot of adrenaline. I heard Alvin say one time not to ever ask him to play a certain song the way he played it somewhere else like here at Winterland for example. He said he wouldn't be able to remember how he played it on that particular night anyway because he was a feel player. And he remains to this day (RIP) still one of the most finger fast guitarist in rock history. There's a reason that Alvin sported the same nicknames his entire career, I.E., Captain Speedfingers, Fastest Guitar in the West, and my favorite The Man Who Played Faster Than His Shadow. It's said Alvin was so finger fast that he once fingered a groupie and she exploded!
Alvin, along with (in no particular order) Johnny Winter, SRV, Duane Allman, & Rory Gallagher make my top 5 seven days a week and twice on Sunday. Alvin's finger speed was incredible and at times unbelievable. He was so finger fast he once fingered a groupie backstage before the gig and she exploded!! Loved the man who played faster than his shadow.
