  • Self-management is a key enabler for all learning - in children and adults! Self-management allows students to follow through on plans to complete assignments and stay focused in class. In adults, self-management is critical to reaching all sorts of goals including keeping a New Year’s resolution to exercise more or go on a diet. Top research in the field shows how critical self-management skills are, what they are, and that SELF-MANAGEMENT CAN BE LEARNED by students and adults at any age. But those teaching self-management skills have to have a particular mindset and approach when they do so. This video was written, produced, and directed by Joel Obermayer on behalf of Transforming Education (www.transformingeducation.org). Go to their website for more tools and information on how to teach, learn, and practice self-management skills.

    My favorite part of the video was about how a simple test of a marshmallow was able to pin-point certain date that dealt with people having self-management skills at an early age compare to other kids and how it was able impact there life later on.

    My favorite part of the video was when he mentioned that you shouldn’t tell them to stop because it won’t help them it’ll just stress them out even more. He ended up giving an example on how you can help that person out.

    My favorite part of the video is that kids that started out with self management brought better results then the kids that did not have self management.

    I like the part of the video that explains useful strategies and ideas that adults can use to help students before taking any test so they can make a good decision on what they will be.

      Hi Rachael. Sorry to hear that! Are you able to play other TH-cam videos with sound? I've tested the piece out on multiple browsers and machines...no problems with hearing the audio.

    In another experiment, they found those 1/3 children who didn't eat the marshmallow, just didn't like them as much as the other kids...
    ... just kidding, but what about that ? I remember I was not a fan of these sweets, they looked so artificial to me !

      @jobermayer  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi SCCP (sorry for using your acronym), I'm with you. I think plain marshmallows are kind of yucky. But as it turns out the experiment has been replicated with almost any kind of dessert you can imagine (and probably plenty of things that are attractive to kids to eat but that aren't desserts). The results have generally been consistent and repeatable. Hope that helps!
