Yay, a new video! I'm glad that you also loved The Sleeping Car Porter. You really describe the atmosphere of the novel well. Apparently those GoodReads reviewers were the direct descendants of Baxter's passengers. Clueless!
You just came up on my feed. It's too late at night for me to have anything useful to say, but it's nice to hear your voice. Whenever you get this comment, have a lovely day.
Deea! Lovely for you to visit! I am catching up on watching myself and will swing your way soon! Love seeing your pics on Insta and hope you are feeling better! 🥰
Lin! I hope you are well! I miss seeing you here. I hope you will let me know what you thought if you decide to pick it up. Winkler writes so well and has a good sense of humor.
@@EveningReader I will! I have now amassed about 100 books in my TBR pile! I ought to be ashamed! (haha!) But I may get that one and read it anyway. 😁I've decided to start making one TH-cam video a month. So I'll likely have one up in the coming weeks. You know how it is, once you start doing it, it's hard to stop! I find I can only write so many hours in a day and one video a month may keep me from getting into trouble with my extra time. I hope you enjoy your summer!
Glad to see you back. I really appreciate your videos….and your recommendations A few videos back you mentioned Pam Jenoff, I found a copy of The Kommadamt’s Girl in a thrift store and really enjoyed it. Currently, I’m reading Lonesome Dove.
I hope you are enjoying Lonesome Dove--it's definitely one of my favorites. I think it might have been another BookTuber who mentioned Pam Jenoff, though--I'm not familiar with that author, and I don't want to steal anyone's credit!
Nice to see you. Yesterday as I was leaving the library after participating in the Shakespeare reading group, I saw Shakespeare was a Woman in the library's used book store. I picked it up, then set it back down. You have peaked my interest again. I hope that the book is still there when I go back to the library tomorrow!
It's so nice to hear you talk about the things you've been reading lately. And I can relate to things feeling unsettled. The summer when I finished Lonesome Dove, I practically ran to the bookstore to find some other McMurtry to recapture that feeling and ended up buying a novel called The Desert Rose which was a such a 180-degree flip from LD that I almost thought it couldn't have been the same writer who penned both. haha. Eventually I got used to the more modern stories, but it wasn't what my heart wanted right away. Looking forward to Benediction.
Sonya, McMurtry went into an eight-year writing slump right after he finished Terms of Endearment, and it was The Desert Rose that got him out of his slump. He wrote it in three weeks! I've not read it. He was quite prolific.
I recently read Five Decembers published from Hard Case Crime. Charlesgate sounds great and I'm starting to wonder if I need to pick up more of the books they publish.
If you enjoyed The Violin Conspiracy, I highly recommend his second book, Symphony of Secrets. It is more thrillery, but I felt like it showed improvement in certain areas from The Violin Conspiracy (which I also really like, I just felt like there were a few areas that were a bit weak).
Well, you've convinced me that I need to read Shakespeare Was a Woman. Definitely going to buy that. I'm so happy to see two Carol Shields Prize nominees in this video. I just discovered the prize recently and will be talking about it in an upcoming video. I'm interested in reading both of the CSP nominees you mentioned in this video. Life is pretty good now that the weather is improving and the spring flowers have shown their faces. I hope all is well with you. Cheers!
Hannah, I am so bad about keeping up with prizes. I see that When We Were Sisters actually won, and I'm not at all surprised. I hope you love them all and will let me know your thoughts! Happy Spring!
I like the word 'lifing' I shall have to try and remember this word going forwards :) I have seen the book behind you 'Bee Sting' everywhere, will you get to it soon?
Oh, The Bee Sting. I started it and got about 200 pages in and set it aside. I'll pick it up again in the next few months to see if it's me or if it's the book.
You missed us? We missed you more! 😄I enjoyed “The Sleeping Car Porter” mini rant. One of my recent reading highlights was “Bad Habit” by Alana S. Portero, translated by Mara Faye Lethem (2023). The story is set in working-class Madrid about the struggles of a boy/young man growing up as a trans female. Now, I’m halfway through “Night Watch” by Jayne Anne Phillips which was just announced as the winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. p.s. I discovered Elizabeth Winkler through her sister Caroline’s channel, too.
MJ, I'll have to put Bad Habit on my list to read. I was so excited that Jayne Anne Phillips won the Pulitzer! Her novel Machine Dreams is one of my all-time favorites. I have The Night Watch on my shelf...would love to hear what you think of it! I may read it next.
Hi Priscilla, April was very tough for me and a lot of other people that I’ve talked to. Wasn’t a T.S. Eliot who said April was the cute cruelest month? I missed you and your rant was wonderful! I still haven’t read the sleeping car Porter or the latest Tana French . Honestly, I prefer. The Dublin murder squad series by her. I’m happy you’re back. Aloha friend.
Serious apologies for causing confusion, Priscilla. Buddy read newbie me was not sure what should happen next. Did not want to seem pushy in case April turned out to be not the best month for you. Is there a video about buddy read etiquette somewhere? Anyway, I finished Amy & Isabelle -- it was impossible to put down once I'd started. Thank you for recommending Elizabeth Strout. I recorded a review which will air on Thursday and my enthusiasm will show.
Welcome back. The algorithm isn’t ignoring you. You just spontaneously popped up into my feed.
Yay, a new video! I'm glad that you also loved The Sleeping Car Porter. You really describe the atmosphere of the novel well. Apparently those GoodReads reviewers were the direct descendants of Baxter's passengers. Clueless!
Ha, I think they must have been!
Great video! I really enjoyed your chat with Randy Ray about Terms of Endearment. Hoping the two of you will do another buddy read :)
Thanks! It was fun. I imagine we'll do another one sometime this year.
You must have pleased the algorithms because they just suggested your video to me and I just subscribed. I look forward to watching more from you!
Well the yay for the algorithm! Welcome. I'm glad you're here!

Priscilla!!
It's so good to be with you!
What a delight to have so many books going well 🤗
I hope May is sticking to that pattern!
Deea! Lovely for you to visit! I am catching up on watching myself and will swing your way soon! Love seeing your pics on Insta and hope you are feeling better! 🥰
Ooh, I loved the documentary on the Isabella Stewart Gardner heist, so I'm definitely adding Charlesgate Confidential to my TBR!
I hope you enjoy it!
Hello! Great to hear about your recent reads. Loved the rant about Sleeping Car Porter. Those people did not understand the assignment! 😂😂
Clearly they did not!
Nice to hear from ya again ✌️😃 I've always heard about Terms of Endearment. I'll have to finally check it out.
I hope you enjoy it if you do.
Hi! I've always been interested in the Shakespeare question. That book sounds great! It's now on my TBR list. Once again, a very enjoyable video!
Lin! I hope you are well! I miss seeing you here. I hope you will let me know what you thought if you decide to pick it up. Winkler writes so well and has a good sense of humor.

I really didn't do it justice, Ros. I thought the writing was lovely.
Hi new subscriber here. You just popped up on things I might be interested in and I’m here for your chats. Have a good day. Melanie
Welcome, Melanie! I'm glad you're here!
Glad you are back. I have nothing to contribute other than I really like Nevada and I enjoyed your video.
Thanks, Brian.

I just added Five Decembers to my TBR.
Wow, those reactions to The Sleeping Car Porter on Goodreads, OMG how absolutely horrible! Oh and The Elizabeth Bowen group is hosted just by Sarah 😉
Thank you for clarifying that, Leo. My apologies!
Leo does feel like a host as he is such a Bowen enthusiast.

@@EveningReader I would like that. Now I can ask my really dumb question - how do Booktubers communicate private stuff like email addresses?
Hang on I think I know. I just created an email address for the channel in Proton and added it to my channel description
@@heathereads My email address for the channel is in the description box of videos and on my About page. Those are the usual places.
