Really enjoyed this particular book review. I like the veneration dotted on daily life even if I usually read (or more like, LISTEN) to “practical” books. You also have a similarly beautiful way of describing the minutiae of your life. Glad you have such a vast video library as I always have you on while I putter around the house.
I can't tell you how much I wish that we could just sit down with a cuppa and chat books; if only I'd known you IRL in your book shop days. Just brilliant Vivi!
Another great on the sofa with books, I'm off to order a copy of Jean Sprackland - 'Strands from the library. I often have your Friday videos on as I prepare our Friday night evening meal. so Friday night has become roast vegetable chilli with Viv night. Glad to see you looking so much better.

We have the same taste in books Vivi. Roger Deakin was such a wonderful discovery for me and it seemed no sooner had I discovered him than he died, it was so sad! And I loved Strands too.😍 I have just read The Ponder Heart by Eudora Welty, quirky , American . Worth looking out for. My reading is governed by what comes in to my local charity shop nowadays or on the second hand bookshelf at my Co-op. Treasures turn up regularly thank goodness😀
I found on Wikipedia that Roger Deakin has also made a number of documentaries. The House and The Garden. For BBC 4. And Cigarette on the Waveney. covered the subject of a canoe trip down the nearby River Waveney. His book The Swimmer was also made into a film and released on BBC 4. Lasting one hour. Maybe it's on TH-cam? Jeff Barrett has also published the following book: Caught by the River: a collection of words on water. This is on Roger Deakin's page on his list of books and was released in 2009. So another book by him was published after his death.

Hi Vivi ! Love your Crisp striped top ! Suits you . All three nature books sound great - Strands is a book that would especially interest me. I have always been fascinated by what the ocean brings up , and maritime adventures in general ,even as a child . We’d take early walks on the beach bc that’s when much stuff is washed up before the crowds come. Was at library today to look for Tove Janssen ( sp.??) but alas , not there . Roger Deakin lived in the village just up the road from me. By the time I discovered his books he'd been dead for a couple of years. Such a shame as I would have loved to have met him.
Absolutely love Roger Deakin's writing and have read and re read, but your opinion may well change when you read the biography, I don't think I would have wanted to be in a relationship with him! x
@@WhatVivididnext there's some lovely bits and bobs of him on TH-cam. I went to a sort of literary memorial to him, travelling from Somerset to Diss in Norfolk for it. It was hosted by Robert McFarlane, Richard Maybey and Ronald Blythe, all literary gods to me. It was so wonderful, just unutterably sad that we have very little of his left to read. Hence the re-reading 😁
