  • For almost a 20 year old car, the first gen Gallardo still turns heads! Clean sharp angles and a preferably analog interior make this a timeless classic. Current pricing is anywhere from $100,00-$150,000 for a super nice low mileage example, but climbing in value almost 10% from last year...Yes, you can impress the neighbors for about the cost of a fully decked out new truck

Now days 4 cyl suvs would keep up with a gallardo and base mustang gt would smoke them. Some gallardos only mange 300 to 350hp to the wheels so they were over rating power while ford back then said 390hp to the crank but was putting as high as 420hp to the wheels

    The E-Gear transmission is to blame for the incredibly slow acceleration times. The car was obviously capable of much faster times, but I’m assuming perhaps (based on the fact of that ridiculously easy get away off the line) that Lamborghini perhaps didn’t want them launching it, as these single clutch gearboxes loved to eat clutches and it didn’t take much to destroy one. I’ve literally seen a Gallardo fry it’s clutch while being loaded onto a transport truck because the driver was trying to creep it up the incline which forces the computer to “ride” the clutch and overheat it. Definitely not the best design, but with more abuse 3.8-3.9 to 60MPH and a 12.5 1/4 mile @113-118MPH was what it was actually capable of

    • @MWBenDavis
      @MWBenDavis ปีที่แล้ว +20

      Ben Here, I was present for this test and can confirm the clutch was already very weak when we took delivery. Launches any harder than the one shown here would result in clouds of smoke rising from the decklid

    • @CM-cw8fe
      @CM-cw8fe ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It’s a great design when driven hard but yeah not ideal for most real world conditions. The clutch is good for probably 10 actual launches before it starts to be permanently compromised. If the r8 v10 Rtronic job is roughly 6k these days it’s not something you want to always replace.

      2. "it's" = "it is" in case you missed 2nd grade in school, and all the years after that
      3. Imagine a good ol' fashioned un-neutered version of the car with a REAL enthusiast's 6-speed MANUAL gearbox and a normal clutch that could take the expected abuse.

      It was mentioned in another comment thread that the Gallardo here used for the test had a very weak clutch when they took delivery of the vehicle, and anything harder than what was shown here would result in smoke coming out of the decklid. These clutches they put on the E-Gear transmission Gallardos have a bit of a reputation for frying themselves.

    Got myself one of the last Gallardo Spyders pre LP facelift, I’m in love. They fixed the gearbox shifts after 06 mine is 08/09. Also they upped the power in the later cars from 500 to 520hp all I need is a upgrade on my steep so I can see the backup camera and a new steering wheel and mine has some faded leather on it. But man the Pre LP Gallardo was my bedroom wallpaper after the Diablo and people say don’t meet your hero’s but the Gallardo is better than I thought. I drove a HURACAN and I didn’t like it it’s to smooth and too Audi R8 for me. I don’t even like the look of it. For me the Gallardo is perfect in almost every way apart from the e gear wear, but I love the single clutch punch you get when you shift and the sound of those Downshifts is orgasmic

      Nice man, enjoy your Gallardo! It's been a long time dream to own one myself and I hope between now and 3 years I can get mine. I read there are new aftermarket kevlar clutch kits available for the Gallardo which are far more durable. It's a bit of an investment but if you plan on keeping on to your Gallardo for many years, I say as soon as you need to replace your current clutch, get your Gallardo outfitted with a kevlar aftermarket clutch so you can finally enjoy it without worries. There are videos on TH-cam on how to do the replacement yourself though I personally wouldn't dare doing that :-)

    Very cool retro review, with extremely disappointing performance. I was just getting into cars in the 2000s, so don't remember it that well. Shocked at the acceleration numbers. A stock version of my '93 FD Rx7 would leave a gallardo for dead! Whoda thunk it. Still a cool car.

    Amazing how today those performance metrics aren't that impressive, definitely not for the price of what this cost back then. A mild tuned Accord 2.0t will get into the higher 13's easily and carry 5 people in comfort, with 35mpg highway.

    If only they included the classical vertical scissor doors, this would leave virtually no wants for a Lamborghini buyer on a budget.
