    Is this more or less than you expected chickens chores to be?

    Good video. Washed eggs will stay good in the refrigerator for 1 month. Unwashed eggs on the counter will also last for 1 month. Unwashed eggs in the refrigerator will last up to 6 months. Because of this I only wash the eggs right before using but you do however you want.

    just to let you know if your not aware then mealworms can actually poison them if fed too much so i feed 2 or 3 each a day. i was unaware of this and fed about 10 to 15 mealworms for each chicken until i lost one unfortunately to them! btw this video was super interesting and you care for them so much ! xx

    Don't wash your eggs when you take them in. It removes the coating that keeps them fresh. If an egg is covered in mud and poop it's not best practice to eat it as eggs should come out clean

    My chucks hatched out 33 chicks this year but rats got 10 so I'm left with 23 chicks and 38 altogether. And I got a duckling and the rats got it too but the ducks are sitting on eggs again. This time as soon as anything hatches I will take it and look after it until it's big enough to be safe. My kitten has had 7 kittens and one died. I put a video on before of the 6 kittens which are 2 weeks and 2 days old. You should see them they are so cute.

    Hey! You should not wash your eggs, it has a protective layer naturally. When you wash them they are good for a lot less tiem.

    • @LibbyFlanagan
      @LibbyFlanagan  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes I just found this out!!! Do you leave yours out of the fridge unwashed?

    • @rubenmarissen
      @rubenmarissen 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, but we sell them quite quickly. We have around 4 eggs per day (4 hens we have). So that makes 25+ eggs a week. We use around 12 of those ourselves. But we have someone in our street that already buys like 10-15 a week from us.
      We are planning to hatch some eggs in spring, so we have 2-3 extra hens. Already extended the coop.

      @@rubenmarissen that’s awesome! Yeah that’s probably why I haven’t run into problems yet I get 2 a day which I eat basically that same day

      If you get a lot of eggs and dont want to sell but stock them, there is a great you tube video on "Water Glassing" your eggs! Great for stock piling for winter when chickens don't lay much or any eggs.

    So they get a half cup a day and still have a feeder? I wish I could use a chicken tractor. I’m in the country, we have predators.

      I usually only fill the feeder up when we will be gone for the weekend, you might be able to if you add a guard goose?

    You've really put a bug in me to try and make a mobile coop and take care of some chickens myself Libby! Doing a little bit of research on my end I see some debate of hay vs putting out dust (kind of like a littler box for cats). I hear the dust is easier to clean, less bugs, and that chickens love a dust bath. Do you do something similar or what are your thoughts? just curious and thanks!

      Sometimes I will sprinkle it on top of my bedding inside the coop if it starts to smell

    It was all good till you washed that egg and put it in the fridge. LoL I don't wash them and I keep em in a egg carton on the counter. They'll keep for about two weeks that way.
