I mean he’s not wrong! When I transitioned from basketball to track and then cross my coaches always told me that some of that extra stuff is bs. I do high knees and butt kicks before races and that’s all
The truth: there is little evidence that any of that stuff makes much difference, and considerable evidence that it makes little or no difference. Which is why no two people who do "extra stuff" do the same stuff. (You'd think that after 30-40 years, people would have figured out what works . . . if any of it really did.) siddharth ray chaudhuri Sure! I naturally had to take it easy in the beginning - 1 mile, 2 miles, etc.. Lots of conditioning pain in the joints and muscles, drinking lots of water helped as well as stretching. Some soreness made me take days-weeks off at a time to heal which kept me in check. 2 years, 9 months later I can run a half marathon without issue. Okay now I have seen smiling runner so rare. He runs so low with heels and still fast ? And Doctors says running is bad for knees ? I have to take his advice 45-60 miles a week. I am 53. Training for half marathon in September sub 1:45. I had minor heart problems in March but now okay.
"Running is bad for your knees" "Oh you run? Enjoy being in a wheelchair at 50." "I don't run because it'll damage my knees and it does more harm than good." Ignorant people amaze me.
I run, and I have knee pain. I stopped running (almost 2months) and the pain went away, did some basic rehab (strengthening my butt and hamstring) and carried on running and change my technique. Started out running as a obese person with 28.5 BMI which caused me to have knee pain due to stress on my joint due to my weight, wrong shoes, type of surface and most importantly biomechanics. Running DO cause knee pain for SOME people. But to say it does more harm than good is definitely untrue. And to comment on others saying "i dont run because it will damage my knee" as ignorant just tells other you are the same lol.
yuju buddy Great working buddy, good that you’re making change. It might be that your running technique is adding to your knee injuries. If you started out as an obese person you probably could not run properly and thus have been running incorrectly all this time. I’d advise you to not land on your heel but instead more on the middle part of your foot. This way your muscles can tendons can absorb the impact which protects your joints while also making you able to run faster because you’re more energy efficient
Loved the video! just finished Brighton marathon yesterday in a slow 4.45. This chap is truly amazing. I did pick up some great tips. He runs between 45-60 miles per week... A true inspiration!!
@@rasher331 No it isn't. Ive known many recreational runners who broke well below 3 hours into the low 2:40s with a base mileage of 60-70 miles per week. You just have to make sure to do your speed work on the track and build your long runs up to a max of 21-23 miles. Id say not conditioning the body for for running over 20 miles and in particular the last 10K is the biggest reason why runners often do not reach their maximum potential for the marathon.
Everything being equal, if you love what you're doing, you're just going to be better at it. What an inspiration! I'm going to start running again, and do it right this time.

Well then you better start training soon
U mean 70 years young?
Just what I needed to watch today , such an inspiration. I'm 34 and didn't run for 14 years since I got injured , injury still exist but I'll get around it and start running .
And he just ran a 2:58 in boston last week!
Its people like him who motivate me. The old people and disabled people who jog make me want to push myself hard. Use to see this lady with MS power walk every morning while working one of my old jobs. She was one of my motivations to lose 80lbs
Imagine him being ur grandpa lmao
I'd love that!!
And he would embarrass me in front of my girlfriends with his speed..............
I tip my cap to you Mr Dykes. I'm 67 & a former marathoner when I was in my 30's. Although I ran several sub 1:20 for 13.1, a sub 34 for 10k & a sub 17 for 5k, in 5 attempts,I could never get under 3 hrs for 26.2 (3:03 was my closest in "83"). So sir, again.....I applaud & salute you & wish you continued happy running & PRs that await you !
45-60 miles a week is difficult timewise. He is probably retired so he can put in that training time.
I‘m 42 and dealing with some runner‘s knee problems... he‘s my hero.
😁
"Running is bad for your knees"
"Oh you run? Enjoy being in a wheelchair at 50."
"I don't run because it'll damage my knees and it does more harm than good."
Ignorant people amaze me.
@@leonhardfrommhold8463 The right shoe helps too. Do not cheap out on running shoes! I lost 2 toenails because of it!
@Nangs No. I wore Nikes, which are proverbial for being narrow and cramped.
Your toenails grow back, no worries.
Depends on your form (technique) and weight of course. Also genetics play a role.
Loved the video! just finished Brighton marathon yesterday in a slow 4.45. This chap is truly amazing. I did pick up some great tips. He runs between 45-60 miles per week... A true inspiration!!
Wait... So this guy is running faster now then when he was 20 years old???
He's gotten better at it.
Made me happy and smiling.
Its so great !
Imagine saying this dude runs little. He’s 70 and does 60 miles a week. R u maddd.
Its low mileage for someone who breaks 3 hours
@@rasher331 No it isn't. Ive known many recreational runners who broke well below 3 hours into the low 2:40s with a base mileage of 60-70 miles per week. You just have to make sure to do your speed work on the track and build your long runs up to a max of 21-23 miles. Id say not conditioning the body for for running over 20 miles and in particular the last 10K is the biggest reason why runners often do not reach their maximum potential for the marathon.
Nice to watch, lots of times its just bragging, but this guy is just so open about it and mainly just loves running. Respect!
At this point I'm training to survive a 10k...
Everything being equal, if you love what you're doing, you're just going to be better at it. What an inspiration! I'm going to start running again, and do it right this time.
