      Mike Mosley in the early 80's was the fastest guy i ever saw...ran the 40 in 3.9. He went from Humble High school in Texas to Buffalo NY Bills to play in the pros as a wide receiver. Got his knees clipped on one play and was done.

      If you do some research to see that there’s actually many seniors who are very active including lifting weights. And there’s younger people who get hip replacements. If it’s a well done hip replacement it should last you 15 to 20 years and increase your mobility.

      Oh really, I'm 73 and run wind sprints for fun and could easily have gotten top three in that race and I was a pole vaulter not a sprinter but ya' I'm fast.

      50 is not too far gone yet. At 54 started entering sprint tri’s. After a couple years I went back to work. Now I plan to quit so I can get outside again before I croak.

    Michael Kish is legend among elder runners. Simply incredible. I am almost 61 and no where near as fast, but have always been athletic and now inspired to to reimmerse myself in running.

      I’m in my 50s and husb is 70 amd he very active incl now baseball 3x week. Our 90 yo friend walks everywhere and 80 yo friend walk, bike rides etc. Fear is more debilitating then taking a chance on trying. Our bodies are naturally designed to move and be challenged. Find ways you feel safe to get out there. Many amazing stories on YT. ✨❤️✌️🌎

      For the record, I consider myself to be in great shape: I go on long forest hikes 4/5 times a week, I eat well, and lift some heavy equipment twice a week. My endurance and strength are excellent. I simply have no interest in running full speed, or developing the capacity to do so. I know that sprinting is another level of fitness that I don't aspire to--I'm just impressed and humbled by people who do.

    This is the kind of stuff that motivates me to continue this great sport. Always loved running fast, but was never encouraged as I wasn't considered gifted. I started sprinting at 33 and have only gotten faster. Don't let genetics or age discourage you, sprint! You might not break records, but I guarantee you'll get faster.

      Assuming you don't get plantar fasciitis. I'm pretty light weight, and as an amateur/hobbyist runner of average ability (and the accompanying low mileage training), I never had any real physical problems until recently. Now I'm a 51-year-old trying to maintain a solid running routine, but heel pain keeps undermining my plans.
      (Edit: sorry to be a downer ☹️).

      I started at the age 44 with sprinting, ok more like faster jogging but short distances as fast as i could and still can 2 years later. Running wise i did not make that much progress but i feel much much better and stronger than all the time in my 30s+.
      And the nice part is it takes only some Minutes each time if you do it the HIIT way.

      @@student2798 I know you didn’t ask me but I prefer the 400. It’s easier if you don’t have that top end speed or a great start. The 400 is basically just a sprint the whole way. My fastest 400 time is 56 seconds and my fastest 200 is 24.9 and I’m a sophomore in high school, but even those times won’t really get you anywhere

    I work for a moving company and the most needed mover is in his early 70s. Not only is he by far the oldest but also the only mover that drives big rigs. He moves better and faster than most youngsters. He can sometimes be too professional, though. Asking twice about unpacking after a long, difficult move is terrifying for most coworkers.

    Phenomenal!!! This is awesome and motivation to anyone getting older. As long as you continue to exercise, u can still do alot of stuff in your old age. Only exception is if you went real hard in your early yrs like sports fighting etc that can make it difficult to do physical activities later in life but if your only excuse is " I'm old" and u siting on the couch all day eating bon bons that's terrible. Get up and move shit go for a walk something but get up!!!!!

    Wow. The fastest I've ever run a 100m is probably high 14? Maybe a 15. And that's when I was in pretty good shape and running regularly. Not for competition or anything, just general fitness. At 70? That's incredible.

    All of those men earn my respect….just amazing to see them still running with zest at this age…..let it be known age is no barrier when the heart mind and body are in tune with each other….

      Starting running competitively at age 59, apparently. So no....just 11 years of training. And the decay in times begins at around 30 years old, so he's had 40 years to slow down.

    I never knew they had a men's 70 and over 100m race at an official track Meet. One of the reasons he was so ahead is because he was the only one to implement the correct biomechanical sprint technique. Most people dont realize that sprinting must be done with a different technique than running.

      Yes, he made it competitive for the first 50 meters, but eventually his short legs betrayed him. But he probably finished in under 15 seconds which was fantastic.

      He’s 71. In 2018 when he was 68, he ran a 12.75 to get Silver in the over 65 category in the World Championships.

      @@ajollypanda4175 They cant. 13.47 is equal to13.2 hand-timed. Last year in my Swedish high school back in 1990, I'd say the average pretty fit guy did about 13.5-14.0. And people of alla ages are fatter now.

    The entrant board showes his age as 82!!!
    There's a BIG difference between 70s and 80s
    At around 75 the rate of decline is like stepping off a cliff. Until 75 or so the rate of decline is a gentle slope, then it steepens enormously!
    Great performance, would like to see it age graded.

    That's some fast stuff. I remember clocking my dad at 55 years old running 100M on grass without any training. Stopwatch said 11 seconds flat. He's often said his biggest regret was not sticking with running and getting mixed up with work and women. Definitely was a gift of his. Love you dad.
