      @@laurahoward5426 The fire maps that I have found aren't really the best at showing the strength of the fires in different areas... I will say that the satellite images I've been tracking for the last few days stopped showing massive plumes of smoke (had been coming from the pallisades and Eaton fires) a day or two ago. It seems like the strength/size of the fires has died down a lot. They have probably burned through the majority of the fuel and are now slowly encroaching on the minimal fuel on the edges of the fires.

The fact that California is the "5th Largest Economy in the World" has allowed them to be reckless with stupid policy decisions. If your house is located in any of the zones that are scheduled to be rebuilt then please put two and two together....to be REBUILT it has to first be DEMOLISHED. I grew up in San Diego and remember when there was a huge outbreak of fires starting in the Riverside area which spread hundreds of miles in the early 2000s. It was discovered later that the entire fire was started by a camper who's fire got out of control. The night we evacuated from our home we were at a friends house hanging out. We could see small glowing red dots really far off so we weren't really concerned. At 2 am I remember police cars coming down our street (a very rural area) telling people to evacuate immediately. My mom grabbed all of our clothes off the wrack and threw them as well as a few of our other belongings into trash bags as we scrambled out of the house. Our cats had to be let out on the mountain because we had no way to bring them with us.
    For a week we stayed at a friend's house, smoke filling the air everyday having no idea if our home was still there. We were lucky, our home survived, but many did not. An entire state park near my home where I spent summers hiking and winters sledding was burned to ash, homes a 1/4 mile away from us on nearly every side were just gone. I remember miles and miles of burnt, blackened tress and landscape where so much beauty had been before.
    It's not "just" a home or "well at least nobody died" it's like a scar on entire communities and families both physically and mentally. Sure my home survived, but many of my friends' did not. And they stay with you. That fear, that anxiety you remmeber it forever. Have compassion and think before you type something that will shame other people's suffering. Stop compartitive suffering

After the lessons of Lahaina, I'm shocked that fire wasn't on EVERYONE"S lips, at the forefront of EVERYONE'S mind the MOMENT Santa Anna's started. Correct me if I am wrong, doesn’t LA get this kind of wind every year? So, the wind isn’t any more and less dangerous, it’s the condition on the ground that’s dangerous given the forecast. So, what are authorities doing to remove or at the minimum mitigate the dangerous conditions on the ground? Or are they simply hoping or praying for less dangerous wind?

    • @wbrycec
      @wbrycec 13 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      Homes will likely be built in drier climates with more concrete and metal. Wood is a great insulator for air conditioning energy costs though. Same for heating for the same reason. You are correct; this wind is routine and expected. It was a *GUARANTEE* that fire would one day flatten the entirety of the community up to the ocean… because of those winds in a dry bush land. There’s even a more recent and public warning on Joe Rogan’s podcast where he said a firefighter told him the exact same thing. It was always a matter of when, which requires the pre staging of water reserve storage and fire retardant… and the man power to distribute it… which wasn’t there and never staged. Japan has wooden communities with water and fire retardant storage that’s been sitting around for decades, ready at any moment for if a fire problem happens. This is why.

      So what you're hinting at is that California needs to sweep its forests. Which, okay, sure, that needs doing, but the vast majority of these fires seem to be starting in or very near residential areas. So maybe it's not California that needs to sweep its forests - maybe it's California residents that need to maintain their shared living spaces. Again, not arguing that forest maintenance (which seems to be what you're driving at) isn't important, but many of these "forests" are not forests in the traditional sense. The state government just deciding to make sure that everyone sweeps their forests before bed every night isn't going to cut it here. It's going to take coordinated, sustained efforts by private citizens and politicians alike and a LOT of habit-changing.

      Thank you! Kicking people when they're down, threatening to deny aid because you don't like the politics, is cruel and frankly un-American. But that's where we're at. Gotta own the libs! I say, give it a rest, you won the election and Newsom is gone in '26. Shut up and govern, let's see the magic!

      Many trees in dry areas evolved to be fire resistant. They have resin so they don't catch fire easily.

      This happened when half my hometown burned down overnight (Santa Rosa CA Tubbs fire 2017). Trees left standing and randomly dispersed homes were spared in the wreckage. I agree with the above commenter

      Trees are full of water and have evolved to be resistant to fire, but unlike the trees, our houses are filled to the brim with PLASTICS; petroleum based plastics- very flammable. The carpets, flooring, upholstery, countertops, everything electrical is also mostly plastic. The paint on the walls is plastic. What isn't plastic is largely wood.
      If you don't believe me, do your own experiment. Comb up some carpet fibers, get under the couch and grab a few strands of upholstery fabric, peel a few paint chips off the can, wad everything up into individual balls and place on the oven door next to some fine pine shavings. Set it all on fire and see what burns the fastest.
      I know I was SHOCKED!
