"One" - 'A Chorus Line' - Movie Finale

- Richard Attenborough's 1985 movie of this long-running Broadway musical came in for a lot of criticism, since it frequently departed from the show's plot, unnecessarily added and deleted songs, and suffered from some mis-casting of the principals. However, the finale was a choreographic tour-de-force of precision dancing, as the number of people on-stage multiplied by the second, all helped by mirrors at the back!
Some of the best choreography I’ve ever seen
You don't get out much huh?
Yes, indeed.
I had the great pleasure to see it on Broadway! Fantastic!
just look at how many talented and gifted dancers...and how many of them really would have chance to stand in spotlight just for once ....art is so competitive and stressful..they really need to have top motivation and passion for it as a career. RESPECT!
Amen! And instead they shared the spotlight together and worked incredibly hard to dance together and coordinate steps. There's wayyyy too much emphasis today on solos, being a soloist and competition. Social media feeds into this mindset. I am much more inspired by groups dancing together for the greater good. That's real talent in my book. 👯👯♀️👯♂️
Wow watching this makes me morn for my grandmother, so much. I miss, and love her sooooooooo much times infinity. Awww damn........R.I.P. Virginia Hess, and I hope Jesus Christ has you now. I miss, and love you, so much!
It was really a shame that this movie didn't turn out better. I remember it was kind of unbearable to watch at certain points. But this finale is a real tour de force. Notice how the cuts/edits happen precisely on each note. That was incredibly hard to do before digital editing. It must have taken months to put together all the pieces that compose this four minute sequence. Bravo to Sir Richard.
This is one of the most amazing dance finales in a musical. They outdid themselves in this film. It brought tears to my eye and immense joy. Humans are capable of such talent and beauty. Brings back many fond memories.
I loved watching this. And continue to watch it. My favorite all time dance movie!
You're... kinda missing the point.
The point is that they're CHORUS.
ANONYMOUS.
The leads are unimportant as there are tons of clones of them and they disappear into the fabric.
All while singing the virtues of someone else.
I thought I was the only person that cries at the end of this movie. Absolutely beautiful and amazing, one of the best of all times, my favorite🤩
I never get tired of A Chorus Line.
Me either. I picture myself up there with them lol....Have watched the movie several times and saw the musical at the Pantages...
@@bettysmith9363 all the time. lol
Sadly, I have not been fortunate enough to witness the stage show BUT, I have never seen such co-ordination! The sheer perfection that Bob Fosse brings to his numbers leaves me flabbergasted. Superb.
Jeffrey Hornaday did choreography for the film, and Michael Bennett and Bob Avian choreographed the original stage production.
I got to see the show when I was in middle school in Boston.
Never tire watching this movie.....CLASSIC.
BRAVO ! Absolutely stunning !
Goosebumps from head to toe!!Yesssssss!!!!
Saw the show at least 3 times. Loved it because of the big finale.
I also saw it 3 times on Broadway - loved it!
The high kicks are amazing.
Awesome Performance by all
Best Ever Broadway Song
Fabulous show!
Toll, wie super das einstudiert ist. Da sitzt jeder Ton, jede Bewegung !!!
Love it... forever 👑💖🎶
Their costumes are gold and shiny. 🎩
ya now, this cast is phenomenal...but the finale is not for close-ups, cutie quotes in the score, etc. The power of it is in the collective of the choreo. Just pull the camera back and don't fu-- with it. The final high kicks are spectacular.
THE LATEST IS THE BEST. Thank you so much from Spain.
Love it, makes me smile every time
Love it . I watch it at least once every week 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🌁
I 💛 the 80's! 😍🤩🥰

For me this was the best Broadway Show Ever I seen them
Speak English much?
Amo Chorus line❤
Loved it!
Fantástico, excelente
On film, you get as many takes as you need.
perfect
this movie was hot garbage in comparison to the musical, but they did this scene well
really cuts deep to see all the characters that we get to know over the course of the musical ironed out into uniformity and part of a huge crowd, nearly indistinguishable now
YES. Michael Douglas made it all about him. I was so disappointed. At least he could not ruin the singing and dance scenes.
I'm usually cool on musicals, but is one impressive finale (appropriately) .
Not a great film version of the musical, in my opinion, but this was done very well. I like the way they bring in all of the characters and then keep adding through the mirror.
It must have taken days to film when you look at all the many 'takes.'
You know you'll never be lonely with you-know-who
One moment in her presence and you can forget the rest
For the girl is second best to none, son
Oooh! Sigh! Give her your attention
Do I really have to mention she's the one
One singular sensation, every little step she takes
One thrilling combination, every move that she makes
One smile and suddenly nobody else will do
You know you'll never be lonely with you-know-who
One moment in her presence and you can forget the rest
For the girl is second best to none, son
Oooh! Sigh! Give her your attention
Do I really have to mention she's the one

Holy stamina, Batman!!
Amen! It's a one in a lifetime experience. I danced this in the early 1980s. I feel it in my bones and soul. ❤😍❤

Google translate ... When I look at it I always feel like crying
God, this choreo is way harder than the broadway
No it's not. And I saw the original dozens of times. This movie was total crap.
So Bugsby Berlie like in the costumes and use of mirrors and overhead shots.
I think you must mean Busby Berkeley, the great American movie choreographer!
@@adam28xx I did, auto correct got me there.
What fun dressing everyone for the finale.
Google translate: "A great dance choreography by a select group of nearly eighty male and female dancers who perform a synchronized routine of unparalleled perfection and mastery that delights the entire audience that watches them on stage at Radio City Music Hall in New York, regular dance scene for the Rockettes, unparalleled masters of synchronized dancing."
They don’t make shows like this anymore.
So much for the Four Girls , Four Boys . Guess they all Neeed the job. They hoped they got the job
I love The Chorus Line 💙
Pretty Cool
Que chute de FELICIDAD🤣👁🤣🤣💯💯🌹🌹🌹🌹💃
Beautiful leg
In sync!
✨🤗🌹🌿✨💖✨
⭐️✨Fantastico✨💖⭐️
Does anyone know how many dancers were used in this shot?
Its an illusion its all the same people just multiplied
80, give or take.
Es una película FANTÁSTICA..TODOS MUY BUENOS.SI NO LA HAN VISTO LA RECOMIENDO...
I can't imagine if they were casting this show today...😮
nice
Love this show. So spectacular.
Charmaine did you use to be a dancer???
To answer your interesting question. Although Im not sure its for me but Yes I was a dancer and my name is Charmaine.
Are those magic mirrors from Numberblocks?
The movie was terrible, but the dancing was top notch
Yeah, but who's this woman they keep singing about?
I think it was a combination of all dancers who have ever gone to tryouts for a part in a show. The hopes and dreams of every one.
None of the sophisticated choreography for this number that was in the stage musical. It was beautiful and much better!
I think it's cleaner than the stage production.
😍😍😍😍👏👏👏💃🕺🏿💃🕺🏿💃🕺🏿💃
Vine por Curicó Show
I'm sure you noticed the girl falling down at the end on the right.
where? what is the time code?
@@BmoreXina 3:32
Thanks! 😊
She must be super quick to get up because for the life of me I can’t find it. Lower right corner, right? Not “stage right”?
@@BmoreXina she is right behind the movie actor. 3rd dancer on your right
A los of work in the backstage
they all have beautiful legs
The sound can be better. Or could.
That’s the one annna Chapman….
EXQUISITOS
Such a shame it was so bad. Very disappointed.
:D :))))))))
This is so flat it is suppose to be a rousing number! Could do with remake this film version bombed but the theatrical musical was brilliant!
I had forgotten how incredibly horrible this was. On stage, it was musical perfection and packed an emotional wallop. This bloated, over-the-top travesty of the original is an embarrassment! The rapid cutting destroyed the flow of the number, and the close-ups and rapid panning of the dancers destroyed the feeling of ensemble, which was the whole point!
Just read that CATS movie was horrible, too
Beats all those stupid French Bulldog vids.....
One of the biggest box office bombs in history of Hollywood. So far off the hit Broadway play, nearly destroyed Michael Douglas career. All of these 20 yr olds praising this absurd clip never even saw the musical on Broadway.
Well, it's really about accessibility. The singular copy that seems to exist of the original cast is difficult to watch as it's such poor quality (drop outs, audio issues, fuzzy visual, etc.)
that being said, the 1983 record breaking 3389th performance is absolutely breathtaking and electric, even though I've only seen the last number. Seeing over 330 dancers doing the final is insane.
@@hbdragon88exactly. I’m sure the broadway version is infinitely better, but we don’t all have the privilege of seeing the spectacle for ourselves. As far as movies go, this indeed is some fine choreography. I have seen better, but this is among the better ones. I wish the purists would understand that the vast majority of people will never witness the live version, and we have to content with the little tastes we are given.
Douglas ruined the film- it wasn't chorus line- it was chorus line director
Agree completely. He made it all about him. I was so disappointed. At least he could not ruin the singing and dancing.
@@jackiel3998 Douglas was just channeling his inner Gordon Gekko!!
One of the worse movie adaptations ever made.
True...but, I still watch it because there are no other options.
I saw the movie first. Then i saw it live. I liked the movie better
Really bad movie
