Tone 2 pro was excellent sound, very clear. But had to sell it as it was a pain to use. Not seeing the led ring pissed me off and just had to get rid. Love what khadas are doing and really want to try the tea.
Been using a tone 2 pro for like 1 year now and it's been a gr8 little unit, excellent sound and the small form factor means really helps to maximize desk space. No issues on the power either for IEMs or headphones, it's powerful enough and it basically has no audible noise floor that I can tell. The only issue I've had is that sometimes one of the channels doesn't work on boot, but the fix it usually just a question of restarting the unit.
4 pin XLR are also balanced. The - connection can be shared to adapt it to single ended, but the difference is having 2 different - connections, one for each +, not a shared -
I've been using my tone 1 in combination with an o2 amp for a while now and I really like it. The 2 is definitely more feature complete, but I don't see a reason to upgrade for my usecase.
I'm guessing it's already been said, but the reason for balanced RCA when one could instead use Pentaconn is so that a device can feed balanced inputs of an external amplifier, and also feed balanced headphones. Not sure if that applies here though - I think it's an decent solution when you want to feed studio monitors (with the device acting as a preamp) and then sometimes use balanced headphones (with the device acting as a DAC plus headphone amp)
Been using a tone 2 pro since your review of it and I've been loving it. Super convenient on a desk and with my setup I can see the led ring. Running HE400i's and doing a pass through to a Kenwood kr-v5570 with Sony APM-078's it's been performing incredibly well for me.
Thing is, most people will just have to set it up the one time. So set it, forget it, and enjoy the Edge of the Art performance, and world class industial design.
When just making a boring aluminium box with buttons would be so much better. Make those button switches, the box lipstick red (or iphone green) and you've a banger
I mean i do kinda understand how balanced work. But 4.4 Pentaconn uses 4 Pins, 2 for each Channel. So it basicly just seperates the Grounds right? Why does the RCA / XLR need 3 pins per channel?
For headphones, it is what you expect: L+, L-, R+, R- and fifth one, not connected. For interconnects (where there's a 4.4 to dual 3-pin XLRs), I think they share the ground with the fifth ring on the 4.4. So I believe in any device with a 4.4 jack, the fifth ring is grounded anyways. Also, the XLR came much, MUCH earlier. 4.4 is new - they probably thought they'd use the same for both channel grounds. AND mind you, the very long cables yet truly balanced signal, XLR connectors use a NORMAL SIGNAL in the live conductor, a REVERSED POLARITY in the second conductor, and a ground (which is the minus here). So, by design, and XLR is a much more sophisticated connector, with more broader and flexible applications.
Single balanced cable has 3 wires: signal, inverted signal and ground. At the receiving end the inverted signal is inverted again and summed to the signal thus cancelling any line noise
For an extra 30 dollars you could get a Schitt Modius which I think is a far better option than the non pro version. Have the Khadis Tea and damn that is a device done amazing, Nice, clean and powerful enough for any iem I have owned or tired.
I just saw your video for the LCD-X (6 years late to the party). Do you still recommend them? If so what Dac/Amp would you pair them with now? The gentleman who was making the cables in that video seems to no longer be in buisness.

Hey Zeo's, i have mica RB42 and woofers (crackling ,popping) amplifier used for test from 2x50 to 2x100 wats 4-16 ohms) and around 1pm woofers doing this (like clipping amp ? I had an issue with my RB42 that the Voice coil wires were slapping the driver cone. I had to take the driver out and bend it back a bit and then it was fine. What you are describing may be something is blown. You need to swap speakers. If both do it its probably over-driving the amp. You didn't mention brand or if it is quality.

Why not just use TRS instead of inventing a balanced RCA. It’s insane.
Because selling cables = profits! 🤑

4.4mm have 5 pins., it shares one ground I believe
The "extra" pin in both cases is probably for grounding the sheilding the cable itself, I would guess
