worked that RR back in 1983, did everything from Brake man, to rail maintenance, engine maintenance. When I was working RR, the old rail buildings still existed on America's cup ave., where the Visitor center, parking garage is...
Hello from the UK. So is this a line that is being brought back to life? The condition of some of the wooden sleepers (ties) certainly looks like some work is needed. Is that a spur line that you can see going off 01:55 and 21:03
Yes, this line hasn’t been used regularly since 2016 but will get some work done on it for service next year. The spur is just an industrial track that used to go into the Newport Naval base
You know that Rail Line is still in pretty good condition needs some stone in some places. Needs a little bit of Irrigation work done on the side of the ties wear water is standing. Also some Brush and Weed control work otherwise it still workable. Sure would Love to see freight running on those Rails once again hopefully it will happen...
Have a camp on Prudence and hear the crossing whistles all the time. Glad to see/hear the road is being improved. Are there plans to rebuild/rehab the rail bridge over the Sakonnet River to connect theNewport to the mainland?
@@SouthCoastRailVideos Too Bad, but i realize it would cost a small trainload of Dough for a marginal or nonexistent return. And that's before dealing with every tom, dick, and harry in a corrupt bureaucracy.
NYNHH, unfortunately it is isolated so there won’t be freight. Tourist trains are planned to operate here next year as long as a construction project is finished on time.
@@louislamonte334 Trackage is on a coastal island. Reconnecting would require a brand new bridge crossing a semi-wide tidal inlet (Sakonnet River) plus rebuilding another few miles of OOS trackage on the mainland. Many many millions of dollars. And there is no freight demand south of the MA-RI state line on the mainland. IE, no private capital on the horizon.
That track sure looks like it's ready for a refresh. I see someone is interested by virtue of the crossing work. How far past the crossing is the track working ?
No I found out about the move using ShipOCN and snuck a camera on board without anybody noticing. I then hide in the brush until they tied down and left so I could retrieve my camera.

It sounds similar to a coach bus or an old Budd RDC-9. Detroit? Cummins?

Wouldn't it be great if this line could attract some freight customers!!! Was this line formerly New York Central or NY,NH&H?

@@SouthCoastRailVideos Thank you. Is there an feasible way to reconnect it back to the USA rail network?

In the first two minutes of this video, was that the naval station to the right?
15:25 it sounds like you left your turn signal on...
some of that track looked pretty sketchy, definitely some ballast work in order
you work there?

@@SouthCoastRailVideos lol really?
Commuter Rail needs to be extended to Newport so that old track can be redone. Maybe in 20 years or in my lifetime or probably never
That would be nice!
The trees need trimmed up.
The gutter needs cleaning out.
