God Willing, I will get to visit this fantastic city on the lake! Nice job filming the ride and providing pertinent information. I should try a similar project here in New York! Reminds me of my early Navy days, going to school in a big city. I'm from a small Texas town and the first time I saw this, i rode it A LOT just to see what city life was about.
What a masterpiece and a beautiful build too. Rode this from the Airport to the Sears tower 20 years ago. It was cool then too and I really enjoyed it. Thanks for posting this as well. Have a nice day.
At 16 yrs. of age, two friends & I rode the CTA system (L-trains & subways), 24 hrs...on ONE fare. Our story was written-up in the Sun Times. Also, the CTA system contacted us, asking HOW we did so.
Great to see people passionate about what they do. Very few cities here in the US like that. Chicago is the largest city in my country I haven't seen yet, but hope to see someday!!!
I always noticed on TV that Chicago's elevated lines don't have protective side rails (for the most part). Elevated sections of New York City trains have them, start to end. Not that they would do much if a train tipped over. It's likely for track workers and emergencies. Just an observation. These are great videos if planning a trip to the windy city. 😊
While rare, there have been train cars over tracks. In late 1970s, the Lake Street El (now called Green Line) crashed into each other and sent train over the rails in the Loop to street below. Videos on YT of news reports when happened, like here: chicagoist.com/2016/02/05/cta_derailment_1977.php
Living in Philadelphia, it's beyond weird seeing an elevated train in such an open residential area. Like our Market-Frankford Line does go through residential areas, but it still follows main streets with a ton of businesses on them the whole way, and the houses are much more densely packed than this. That and these stations look more like they're designed to be on the ground.
This train system in my opinion is a class act, took it first time and first time visiting Chicago. Although this train system is a lot smaller than the MTA in NYC, it seems much cleaner and more efficient!
I wonder if they have many maintenance issues, compared to systems with similar size. Being a system that is mostly above ground, one would think that they would have?
Only two lines and that's because one runs to O' Hare and the other must be very highly used. The entire thing is not 24/7 therefore what I said still applies.
Dexter Dugar oh well I'm from New York so I don't know much about the CTA EL subway in Chicago and by the way so at least the rest of the lines still run during the day and night but lot late night? I mean what time the rest of the lines shut down for the night while the last two lines will be running?
I've never been to Chicago - or the US at all - so this gave me just a glimpse of Chicago. Awesome, thank you. And now I hope I'll go there someday to see it all for real. It seams to be a great city, a great place. Greetings to all from Vejle, Denmark.
There is a lot I remember about the CTA rail system from the Loop going south. The old green and white trains, the jolt when the train started, the squeal when the train made its turns. The name change...Jackson Park "B" trains and Englewood "A" trains became the Green line, Lake/Dan Ryan became the Red line. Lake/Dan Ryan ran parallel to the expressway and became elevated after 31st going into Cermak. Jackson Park/Englewood would start off elevated then go into subway at Roosevelt. The "skip stop" on both lines. These videos have really sparked up nostalgia for me...one day I would like to ride these lines...notably the Blue line..just to be adventurous!!
Sorry Mark, I seem that days ago you replied to my question "What is the most beautiful CTA station?" in one link of these ones. Oh my God! I have lost this link with your reply, omg! I can't find it! Can you reply again here, please? Thank you so much! :)
+Stefano Montesanti can't remember exactly what I said, but at this point I think the most beautiful station will be the Wilson station. Also looking forward to the reconstruction of the Madison/Wabash station
Visited Chicago for the first time last week, I’m from New England and there’s a bit of a rivalry between the Northeast and Midwest...I absolutely loved it. Definitely recommend visiting if you’ve never been as it’s a beautiful city with so much to do. Was also skeptical about the crime but felt safe the entre time even on the subway, in the parks, and at night. Visit Chicago
Lot of folk don't understand that the crazy crime stats are coming out of pretty specific small areas. Single war zone neighborhoods counter out dozens of safe and peaceful ones pushing the cities average numbers up
I was watching Bernie Mac and saw they were on the brown line and immediately thought “This is a Brown Line train to Kimball” it took me back to when my uncle used to drive the train and I went to work with him. I didn’t even recognize Kimball I haven’t seen it in person since 2004.
Great video, and an important historical document. Imagine if you could watch a similar film from a hundred years ago. What would the trains look like? The platforms? The neighborhoods? The people? A long time ago, (the 1970's) when I was in college, the Brown line was known as the Ravenswood line, and I rode it a lot. Back then I think the Ravenswood's ridership was lower than the other major lines. It seemed like most of the other passengers were old ladies in babushkas who'd take the train to do their shopping. It was the last of the city lines to get air conditioned cars. I'd wait on the platform in the Loop and watch all these Lake Street-Dan Ryan trains and Evanston trains go by, waiting for my lowly Ravenswood to finally show up. But it was nice because the cars were never crowded. I used to love the slow ride through the neighborhoods along the Ravenswood on a lazy, sunny afternoon, with the warm smell of the old wooden platforms in the air. Then the hipsters started moving in, and now the Brown line is a big deal, the trains come frequently, the people are packed in like sardines, and there's not a babushka in sight.
Hi This is most likely why I don't travel. Not only because I can't afford it but because I can just watch videos. I'm from Calgary Alberta Canada and your stations looks a lot like the Calgary C-train line. I love the transfer options you have. It helps travellers plan their trip Thanks for posting
What’s amazing about this ancient line was that before they built the state street subway. Almost every train line passed on those tracks from northside to southside to west side including the defunct North Shore interurban.

Not sure if you know but they recorded that on the Brown Line during the pandemic

Would you want to visit Chicago again?
I watch these videos and it always amazes me how close the buildings are to the tracks
At 16 yrs. of age, two friends & I rode the CTA system (L-trains & subways), 24 hrs...on ONE fare.
Azenturi Yes the MF route looks a lot like Brooklyn NY
I miss riding the "L" in Chicago. It is one of the best ways to get around Chicago.
Thanks for a ride. I love Chicago!
Хорошая была поездка. Красивые городские пейзажи. Спасибо.
Merci pour cette vidéo c'est une visite fantastique de Chicago.
This train system in my opinion is a class act, took it first time and first time visiting Chicago. Although this train system is a lot smaller than the MTA in NYC, it seems much cleaner and more efficient!
Larry K That's because it's smaller and closes at night. It's also not as trafficked.
I wonder if they have many maintenance issues, compared to systems with similar size. Being a system that is mostly above ground, one would think that they would have?
Well actually Dexter first of all Chicago also never sleeps so the subway system over there also runs 24/7
This city is amazing in every way! I hope you get a chance to come here and enjoy everything it has to offer. Chicago welcomes you with open arms
you cant visit chicago without riding on the el.
It is.
I've now committed to visiting at least once every year.
Where are you from?
Chicago Aviation fanatic It's a liberal town riddled with crime and corruption.
Same.
Mark Broadnax ok mark thank you so much
Now I'm to search the old notifications but Google Plus gives me the last ones! Sob! It has been changing in these days!!! Uff!
This is super fun to watch and I love that you thought to give us the opportunity to change lines!
Unfortunately Google took away the feature that allowed the line switch to work.
Damn you Google! But I'm still enjoying this a lot!
Single war zone neighborhoods counter out dozens of safe and peaceful ones pushing the cities average numbers up
You must have stayed in the downtown area or north of it near Lincoln Park.
@@manedwolfwithagmailaccount1478 That's true about the crime
But the trains are bad and skank all times of day and night
Chicago,; one beautiful city, one great transit system, The ultimate lol! ,Thnx for the video.
Very nice video, greetings from Greece
The best CTA
The classic above level "CTA", for movies like:"Trains, Planes, and Automobiles"!
17:59 "Ey, wassup?"
Those were Mexicans lmao I love my people
@@dexter99999 we love you too from the wild 100s lol
Says wassup Jerry a few moments later and then the train let's out a whistle lol
This railway are incredible with these trains crossing simultaneously all lineas.
I love the brow ine. It took me to my first downtown job up North!
Great video, and no stupid music!!
It’s so weird seeing Madison/Wabash and Randolph/Wabash after them being demolished now replaced with Washington/Wabash
Haven't been on that line since 1973. Wow, have things changed! But somehow stayed the same. Miss it , but don't. Strange.
This a cool train ride, but I recommend taking this line during the summer. Everything looks so much nicer.
Beautiful Train, and system. Love Chicago
Chapeau, very interesting video, well done. Best regards from Germany!
Hi
This is most likely why I don't travel. Not only because I can't afford it but because I can just watch videos. I'm from Calgary Alberta Canada and your stations looks a lot like the Calgary C-train line.
I love the transfer options you have. It helps travellers plan their trip
Thanks for posting
Mooie opnamen. Impressie van de stad .. Indrukwekkende rail-infrastructuur .
Damn, I'd really hate to live in one of those places right on the tracks. They don't seem that loud in the video but they're loud as hell in person.
Right. You should ride the "EL" in NYC then you'll know what loud is all about.
I lived right next to the. "L" for decades and you sort of get used to ---- what ?????
Bet you get used to it quickly.
Honestly being next to a freeway or major road is more annoying because theres always cars going by and assholes with loud exhausts can blast by
On elevated structures they are loud especially if a train has to do a hard turn. Although when on ground they're really quiet.
Always wanted to go to Chicago and ride the rails!
I think I saw Carl Kolchak working hard on a story at the INS, and Dr. Robert Hartley, he was heading home to Emily, after dealing with Mr. Carlin lol
Kolchak was my boy. Love that show and McGavin!
What’s amazing about this ancient line was that before they built the state street subway. Almost every train line passed on those tracks from northside to southside to west side including the defunct North Shore interurban.
They can call it the Brown Line all they want.
It is still the Ravenswood to me.
It is hard to believe that Ravenswood hospital closed down. Now they have to take all the stabbing and gunshot wounds to Illinois Masonic.
I'm really amazed how quiet these trains are, especially compared to the ones I grew up with - the Soviet-built trains of the Kyiv Metropoliten
This video is excellent for Coronavirus’s time! Thank you very much!
I'm from Chicago I love that City but Chicago is a big city and I need to know my way around the c h a Transit and this channel will help me get around the city opportunity
I must say the stations look very clean. I was worried about coming to Chicago to railfan but it looks very safe to me.
Don't get me wrong I live in Chicago at safe to visit but not to stay I'm not trying to scare you my City's beautiful place but there are some parts where you should keep away
@@rayray9865 I took my family from Kentucky to Chicago around 1990 and I wanted to take the kids on the "L". I stopped a policeman walking down the street and asked him how did you get up there to get on the train. He looked at me and said, "Where are you from?" I told him Kentucky. He said, "Man . . . you don't want to get on the "L" with your family. My advice is not to get anywhere near the overhead and then get the hell out of Chicago and go back to Kentucky where it is safe!" I thought he was kidding and asked again how to get up to a platform and he flatly refused to give me directions and again said it was "too damned dangerous. . . not safe".
@@mikelastname1220 yeah I kind of agree with them because fights to break out often and it's not safe to travel at night you can get mugged or worse especially on the red line
Bonjour très impressionnant
Moi, je suis conducteur de tramway, à Lille en France, je suis passionné de ferroviaire Merci pour cette vidéo de bonne qualité qui nous fait découvrir votre pays
Laurent
I love how we're riding along the other train, awesome video
