    Oh Shannon, I am in tears, seeing you at Uncle Bobby’s grave, seeing Stacy, and listening to your story. You have had a lot of loss. I remember that phone call from my mom that he was gone. Praying safety over your family.

      “I dream, I test my dreams against my beliefs, I dare to take risks, and I execute my vision to make those dreams come true.” - Walt Disney. We are taking a chance at something a bit unconventional. It's crazy that we are actually doing it!!

      We all have life events that define our choices. These were just what made our decision to leave successful careers to go sailing now. Thanks for watching!!

    So true. Sorry for your loss. It’s so recognisable. Years ago I had a friend who was trying to save as much as he could, so one day he would start sailing. He died before it happened. I decided that I would not wait and bought a boat early on.
    Luckily he joined every now and then, always talking about the big boat he hoped to have in the future. But often he did not want to make time as he had to earn more... for that boat..After divorce and equally difficult times about the children I decided to leave my home country in Northern Europe and made it to the other side of the world. Working in Asia. After ten year here, life is a bliss in any comparison, living on board the only way to fully enjoy life. Certainly I want a bigger boat… but for now we’re good. I even got remarried and we have a toddler and plans to take him around at least half the globe.. the world is do beautiful. only regret is that I should have left seven years earlier. All those fights where pointless any way. Your totally right to go as soon and young as you possibly can. And I’ll try to follow your adventures. For now no channel, that’s a choice. Maybe later..

    YOU KILLED A TREE!!!! I knew it! You looked criminal from the start.

    • @SailingParadiseFalls
      @SailingParadiseFalls  ปีที่แล้ว

      Not the first tree I've cut down and definitely will not be the last. That was not even the first I took out with a vehicle! Pulled 2 trees out of the front yard with that truck and a sago palm too. Planted 3 new trees and lots of new bushes though so we're good. :) Thanks for following our journey!

    As a couple who shares the same sentiment and who sold everything and embraced the fulltime cruising lifestyle six years ago, congratulations. Life on the water will be the most challenging and, potentially, rewarding thing you have ever done. We cannot imagine returning to life on land. Like you, we had goals of seeing parts of the world that were new to us. We have a word of caution - timing.
    You will seldom be able to meet your written goals to depart, arrive or stay, due to weather, repairs, or mitigating factors. At the present time, there are the most mitigating factors at play that go beyond the sea state or boat readiness that could threaten the safety of your boat and yourselves.
    Geopolitical conditions have the world posture and attitude towards the U.S. in a precarious position, not to mention the threat of world war approaching our doorstep. As the East builds a kinetic dislike of the West, travel to many countries could place you in a compromising position, should war break out. Much of the world has been financed by China and those loans could make the climate for Americans untenable and even unsafe, should war become a reality.
    Beyond the political climate, there are other considerations such as supply chain concerns and basic economics. It has never been more expensive to live and boats (and their repairs and maintenance) are notorious for making instant millionaires out of billionaires.
    We had dreams of navigating the whole of the Caribbean, when we began. We dashed those plans three and a half years ago, after experiencing martial law in a third-world country during the health scare. With war looming and the economy (cost of living) through the roof, we opted to make the Florida Keys our cruising grounds, to wait out a hopeful window of world stability. It isn't the pristine cruising grounds that we loved in the Bahamas but it does offer the beauty and option to cruise in a tropic environment, while staying in U.S. territorial waters.
    We know of so many couples who have thrown all caution and concern to the wind and have struck out on a world voyage, at a time when food has been scarce and more expensive than ever and when the influence of our State Department has dwindled to near nothing.
    Our humble advice is to wait for a proper "world window," before setting a course to a location where you may find yourselves compromised. Consider it an extended shakedown of the boat. If and when conditions improve (we hope they will), you can confidently slip the lines and have some assurance that your travel will be safe and fulfilling.
    You may read this and interpret these words as mean or uninformed. Please understand that we are currently committed to life on a boat, as we have been for six years and continue to be. We wish you many years of enjoyment and success with the lifestyle but caution you to always wait for the proper weather window and "world window."

    Life sucks sometimes. I'm happy to see you overcome these events and move on to enjoy your dreams! A family friend (my age) had breast cancer a couple years ago and recently it returned along her spine and last week found in her brain. The treatment of radiation to her brain is unacceptable and she has been given 6 months to live. She's not even old enough to pull from her retirement pension. I'm still working on reaching my goals to travel the world. I'll be watching your adventures.
