Fallout 4 - Building at Starlight 03 (Diner Seating Area, Farmers House and Utility Shed)

  • This series covers the construction of my settlement at Starlight Drive In. Apart from Place Everywhere no settlement object mods were used, and only uses vanilla and DLC objects.
    In this part I create a covered seating area for the diner / bar, along with a small covered workspace above on the wing of the projector tower. Behind the warehouse I create a small utility shed, along with a small farm plot and a simple shack to house its workers.

    Your fallout world kind of feels like what the minuteman would have created a few years after destroying the institute, they are different to the ncr and I think your building style captures that, intentional or not. :^)

      Thanks, that’s pretty much what I have in my mind for this playthrough 😀 Preston has hung up his map markers now that the Institute is gone, and is travelling with a small team to secure and build up each settlement hoping to bring a little civilisation back to the Commonwealth settlement by settlement.

    Loving this series so far! Usually when I build here I like to do a sort of vertical city block along the sides of the screen, and a big penthouse on the tower lol.
    It’s so refreshing to see a new take on the settlement, not to mention one that uses only vanilla buildings!

      Awesome to hear you are enjoying the build series - thanks! I must admit that building vertically is something I need to work on as I mostly stick to single storey structures. I can imagine building up along the sides of the screen would look pretty cool (and a great way to use that space), and the views from the tower penthouse being amazing! 👍😁

    That little fenced-in farm plot for the tree! I'm screaming! I want to be able to do that too. Place Anywhere seems to be a bit limited in that respect tho. Or maybe I just haven't figured out how to move trees around. Anyway, great progress, great ideas.

    • @FiddleflapsVids
      @FiddleflapsVids  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, I was really happy with how that ended up looking 😁. Really surprised that Place Anywhere cannot move stuff like trees or the chain link fences, as are they normally scrapable objects. I am guessing it’s a function of the PC’s script extender that allows Place Everywhere to move them and why it requires it.

    If you use a concrete pillar and place it next a vendor and hold A it should give you the opportunity to glitch the vendor into the dinner

    • @FiddleflapsVids
      @FiddleflapsVids  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the suggestion and will be placing a vendor into the dinner. I am using the Place Everywhere mod so no need for the pillar glitch, as I can turn off surface snapping and place it there directly 😉

    I just came across your channel a couple days ago and I must say. It’s really good. You’ve motivated me to actually get back on fallout 4 and start settlement building again. Quick question though, what mod do you use you mess with the objects like disabling snapping and things like that? Is it a PC only mod?

    • @FiddleflapsVids
      @FiddleflapsVids  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, great to hear you are enjoying the channel! The building mod is called Place Everywhere and due to requiring the script extender to work is unfortunately PC only. Although they dont have all its features, I believe the closest alternatives for the consoles are Place Anywhere (Xbox) and QwaPa (PS).

    Hey there - New to your channel, but digging this build series. I build in a different style, but always like learning new techniques and new approaches to the building system.
    Question: I get that you're using Place Everywhere mod. What I can't figure out is how it looks like you are using a controller and hot keys at the same time(?).
    You do it so quickly and seamlessly.
    Do you have your controller mapped to hot keys? Or do you just switch one hand from the controller to the keyboard that quickly?
    *I use controller, but haven't bothered with the hot key commands of Place Everywhere because I wasn't sure it was even possible.
    *I'm going to try it - but I don't want to try learning it a hard way if there's an easy way. ;)

    • @FiddleflapsVids
      @FiddleflapsVids  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Welcome to the channel and great to hear you are enjoying the vids! Place Everywhere’s keyboard shortcuts can be used while also using a controller, along with opening the console to enter commands (which I do in a later part of this series) or selecting objects using the mouse.
      As you suggested I just swap one hand to the keyboard when needed, and find as long as its within easy reach is not that hard to get the hang of after a little practice 😉😁

    I see you having those guide pieces already placed! Are those left intentionally after doing an off-camera build and teardown? Smart!

    • @FiddleflapsVids
      @FiddleflapsVids  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Exactly that, lets me focus more on showing how the settlement is made rather than have to fuss and fiddle around getting stuff placed. Plus its important certain structures line up as I often use them as guides or snapping points for others.

  • @williamsnyder8399
    @williamsnyder8399 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Now you've got me looking at your other builds 😆 I've never ever used prefabs, and now I'm realizing I'm an idiot for not using them. They have exactly the shapes I've been hand making. How does the AI do at navigating around?

    • @FiddleflapsVids
      @FiddleflapsVids  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I feel people can be put off from using the prefabs for fear of building giant boxes, as long as you remember to add just use them as a base to hang other pieces off of they can be a great tool. I also use them when starting builds to block out areas, and quickly get an idea of where buildings will be and how much space they will take up.
      Apart from the provisioners I don’t have any other settlers hear yet. As I want my builds to be usable in game I always try to make it so the settlers can get around them (although you usually end up with one or two dead spots they will never use). For any problem spots I normally sink floor pieces to help act as a guide, and is something I do during the final decorating stage.

      @@FiddleflapsVids If there was a single mod that I'd recommend, that I know you'd love, it would be Snappy Housekit. The author just turned every structure asset you see into usable and snapable pieces. Using that with Scrap Everything allowed me to turn all the buildings in Hangman's Alley into usable structures.

    • @FiddleflapsVids
      @FiddleflapsVids  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the recommendation! I believe friend of the channel Claude Therrien puts that mod to good use in his awesome themed builds (check him out if you don’t already watch his stuff) and is something I look forward to playing with.
      I have always wanted a save where every settlement has been built up but can be loaded without having any mod requirements. Due to this I am purposely avoiding using mods for now as I know if I start I’ll not want to go back to just using the vanilla and DLC assets 😅

  • @pragavirtual
    @pragavirtual ปีที่แล้ว

    Really cool, its a shame that vanilla doesnt allow us to build like that, tried to make some scafold supporting the wood roofs and took me an our to figure it all out, in the end the only solution was to group select the whole thing

    • @FiddleflapsVids
      @FiddleflapsVids  ปีที่แล้ว

      I can agree with you on that. I always wanted to love the settlement building system but just found its limitations and restrictions too frustrating. Using Place Everywhere was a real game changer and allows me to focus on and just enjoy building, instead of trying to fight work around the games mechanics.
