everyone is already saying this but def size down even if you like your jeans comfy/loose. they stretch out after a few wears and stay that way. i think you should poss try the curvy jeans too! I find that with madewell, the jeans really slim my front because the pockets and material is thicker - whereas AE jeans are a bit thinner and it doesn't do me any favors in that area so it's worth the price to me AND their customer service is amazing. I ripped my jeans after having them for a month and they refunded me 100% of what I paid.

Jean's should be a teeny bit tighter than you like them when you buy new since they will stretch half a size

  • @MicaelaHart
    @MicaelaHart 4 ปีที่แล้ว +749

As a Madewell associate my top tip is that most of our Denim stretches a 1/2 size in the first wear and will **generally** stay that way, esp if you follow care instructions and minimize washing! As crazy at it is, the jeans should be the least comfy the day you try them in the fitting room. I always recommend if people are unsure about sizing to grab the pair they feel most confident is their size but before wearing them out of the house please lounge around your house in them for at least an hour to double check you love the fit! Madewell jeans are insanely good quality and worth the price but you have to smartly size as our product does tend to run big depending on cut. Based on your feedback I would recommend you give the curvy high rise skinnies a go, and also when you bring a pair of jeans in the store to donate (we turn it into wall insulation) you get $20 BUCKS off any piece of full priced denim!

Hey Carrie! I used to manage a Madewell, with the denim & the gapping, it is doing that because you need to size down! The width in the thighs and length will stay the same, but the waist will change. They usually mold to your body after two to three wears! I am the same size as you, 5’10 and always get a 31 or 30.
    ✨✨✨
Different denim will vary in fit based on the Material also, If something has more cotton and is stiff I always size up.
The price is that way because they are sourced ethically from specific high grade mills, are all hand made, and each pair take over a month to make. You can also recycle an old pair of denim to get $20 off each pair!

I’m so sick of TH-camrs and people on the comment section complaining about the price of clothing places like Madewell, Everlane, and Reformation. They are all ethical and sustainable brands and therefore the companies would lose money by selling their clothes cheaper. It is really expensive to produce clothes the correct and ethical way. Anything cheaper is most likely produced in a sweatshop and has a huge toll on the environment. If you don’t wanna spend that money then don’t but don’t complain about these brands being expensive.

My mom is a professional seamstress and according to her and her training in textiles, one of the reasons that clothes in the same size from the same brand can fit so differently is because different fabrics behave differently even when cut the same way. So those two pairs of jeans you tried on that were the same pair we’re probably cut out of a different weave, therefore they can behave differently even if they’re the cut the same. Also different designs cut to the same size can just fit differently because they’re just cut and/constructed differently. It’s like how you and Sierra can try on the same pair of clothes in the same size and they fit you each different because you have different bodies. The clothes are just different. Furthermore, the direction in which the fabric is cut can effect this as well.

Madewell is a shop where you definitely benefit from getting helped by an associate! I’ve worked at Madewell for so long now and seeing all of these videos make me so sad because people don’t know how to find their madewell Jean! That dropping in the back and the gap above the booty is because you have curves! If you check out our “curvy” selection it gives more in the thigh and tappers at the waist and helps with those problems! Also on the topic of “mid rise” our jeans aren’t actuallly mid rise. If you are shopping at American Eagle or Target and looking at Midsize jeans they will be an 8in rise, while Madewell “mid rise” are 9in. As a company we rebranded our 9in high rise to be called a mid rise for more of the mom crowd that doesn’t like or feel uncomfortable in high rise fits. So you are really in a higher rise in any of our jeans!! (And the perfect vintage jeans are a high rise actually 11”, but you have to have noooo curves to be able to fit in them. We’ve had a lot of issues with them because they are 100% cotton) And as far as sizing goes, it’s all on the cotton percentage!! If something has a ton of cotton it will fit wayy tighter and if it’s more elastic it will be way more stretchy. Same with both pants and skirts. And on top of that madewell jeans are meant to stretch! They are made to live like new shoes, stretch to fit you! So you always want our jeans to be nice and snug in store! Also definitely bring up the blue jeans go green program, bring in old jeans and you’ll get $20 off of your full price jeans in store!!
My biggest thing though - go in and try on some curvy! Curves happen and it can happen to any size and the curvy styles help!
Lol, sorry for the mass word vomit! But Madewell employees want you to ask for their help! We love helping and want you to get the jeans meant for you!! ❤️❤️

As pricey as Madewell jeans may be, I have found them entirely worth it!! As long as you follow care instructions, they will last for so long! (Also, one of the only times I have had jean shopping experiences where I didn't feel defeated when I left the store, empty-handed or not).
If you are a Madewell Insider (free to sign up!!), you get $25 off any purchase during your birthday month. You can also bring in any brand of used jeans, and they will recycle them into eco-friendly insulation, and you'll receive $20 off a new pair of jeans. They also offer a 15% discount to students and teachers, as well having a pretty solid sale section in-store and online!!

Hi Carrie! I work at Madewell and I CANNOT recommend the high rise skinny in carbondale wash enough! I've had mine for years and the black never fades. Also, I'm a true 28 everywhere but madewell. I always size down to a 27 because a lot of the denim stretches after a few wears. And a tip for madewell denim and jeans in general- neeeeeeever dry them because the dryer burns the elastane so once they stretch out, they won't go back! Also donate any full length denim from any store to get $20 off. I know it's pricey but the quality and ethical sourcing makes it so worth it!!!

The gap in the back: with a good size booty and a smaller waist this will always happen. IT'S NOT YOUR FAULT! If you 're able sew a few small darts in the waistband. with the jeans on, inside out, squeeze 2 equal size darts and pin them with safety pins. At this point: either take them to a dry cleaner that has tailoring OR sew them yourself. Using a pencil, draw along the line the pins form. Readjust the pins to hold it together but not get in the way of the sewing. Use a heavy duty thread and stitch along the line, do this at least twice. It may seem too bulky but if you then sew the edge of the dart down it's amazing how smooth it will be.

I loved this video! I recently bought two pairs of madewell high rise and feel that they are 100% worth the investment because they stretch and hug my body and make me feel confident. 💛 I also was frustrated with size inconsistencies, so thank you for putting into words what I often feel in the dressing room!

I hardly ever leave comments on your videos, but when you bought those black jeans for $128 it hurt my soul! I don't think they fit you well enough to justify the price. Usually, if you have a gap in the back, it means the jeans aren't made with your measurements. For me, I always get a gap in the waist, except with curvy jeans because good curvy jeans are made for a bigger waist to hip ratio. Idk if that makes sense, but basically if the jeans fit your hips and thighs well, but not your waist, then that particular style just isn't going to work even if you size down. I think Madewell has a curvy line, maybe you could see if they have any in black and see if those fit you better. Also whenever I see jeans drop down in the back, I usually take that to mean that particular style wasn't designed for someone with a bigger butt in mind. I feel like a lot of higher-end stores aren't made with bigger people in mind, even if they do have bigger sizes. The overalls looked amazing on you though! I'm glad you got them!

Thank you for showing the side view! When I try on clothing, I always think it looks great from the front, then question it from the side. But I remember to tell myself that’s just how my body is, and that’s ok.
    Also, the voiceover is great!

For the gap in the back of your jeans, when you’re paying that much money for jeans, go to a seamstress and they will take the gap in in the back for cheap. It’s like $15! I have to do that all the time!

you filming in public is a feat in itself, it would be so difficult for me to do that lol! i recommend trying the abercrombie curve love line, there is less of a waist gap, which i saw you struggled with on the first madewell jeans. :) btw love madewell jeans so much, i have a video reviewing them on my channel too!

Carrie, here are my thoughts on why a store carries their extended sizes online vs in store; Cost more to ship (more fabric), take up more room to display, and maybe don't display as attractively. Both of those are practical reasons, as is that a plus size gal may not be as comfortable shopping in store.

  • @annabreeding5655

I used to work at Madewell, and when our customers have the gap in the back, we always encouraged them to try a size down. It may feel like it won’t work, but almost always after a couple minutes the smaller size felt perfect. They will stretch out 1/2 a size, so if possible get the ones that fit your waist!

hey girl, love the video! I actually work for madewell and I really think you should try sizing down and maybe starting at 29/30/31 in jeans or maybe even try the curvy line. Our jeans are meant to fit snug because they will give! So many of my customers, including myself have made that mistake in not going down sizes because we think "there's no way I can fit into that" but really you'd be surprised! Hopefully this will help next time you're looking into purchasing a new pair :)

Madewell is nice because they have great size range and the quality is nice BUT its just too expensive. They're product starts to fall into the same price range as designer like Joe Jeans, paige etc.

    TW: Body Image; Comparing; Anxiety
Okay, but can I say I SOOOOO appreciate you showing the stretch marks! I have struggled my whole life with body image and I love watching fashion TH-cam, but so much of it is skinny women! Just to be clear, there is NOTHING wrong with being skinny. All bodies are beautiful bodies! The problem comes when that is all that is represented, so I spent years trying on the same things these girls were trying on, and it not looking good on me and me thinking the problem was with ME when really, clothes look different on different body types, and I needed to stop trying to make the same fashion work for my taste! So then I started watching mid-sized TH-camrs (as I am a mid-sized gal!) like you and Sierra and Susie as well, which has helped a lot! BUT even so, my mind still likes to be nasty sometimes and go "you guys have similar bodies, but they still look gorgeous and you don't!". But I often forget, we don't always see the parts people are insecure about. Some of the things that I worry make me "ugly" include my stretch marks and my cellulite. And I know it was such a small moment that really didn't need to be a big deal, but when you showed your stretch marks I actually started crying. Because then my mind went "if she's that gorgeous WITH and NOT IN SPITE OF her stretch marks, you can be too". And I know just in general I need to stop comparing myself to other people, but until then I just wanted to let you know how much that meant to me. Sorry this comment is so long! And feel free to delete if anything comes off as offensive or inappropriate.
