Hey Ewan and Kiera! 🌟 Wow, this video is seriously impressive - the way you've tackled plastering with such attention to detail is truly inspiring! 🏗💫 Watching you work has given me a renewed burst of energy to dive into plastering myself. I was this close to calling a plasterer, but now I'm all pumped up to give it a shot thanks to your awesome tutorial. Keep spreading the DIY magic! JT
Great built and informative video. I'm building a unit like this and I can't see from the video how you have finished the base and top of the fire, it looks like you have mitred some wood but if so I couldn't make out how you plastered this area. Can you please let me know, possibly a close up photo of that edge.
Hi, in later videos I mention that I used a wood filler for that edge, because it would have been awkward/ messy to try to plaster. Hope that helps & good luck with the build👍
Nice one for uploading this mate, really simplifies this project. Good job there mate 👌🏼 Just one question I wasn’t sure of was the bottom part of the fire if your building a thicker border as in depth surround! Was it wood filler you said you used instead of plastering? And would you plaster the outside first then just use some wood filler for that depth border? Reason I ask is I’m building a thicker wall so I can build a side access shelf reaching behind the tv and to fit Sub, PlayStation etc So the plan is to have a thicker boarder around the whole fire. My wall depth is going to be about 44cm including plaster and the fire is only about 20cm depth.
Hi mate, thanks for that👍 Yeah I plastered the outside first, and then used wood filler once dry. Turned out nice, & Good idea creating the extra space for the sub. Hope it goes well 👍
@@reno_with_us thank you for the reply Never heard of interior walls beings brick But I guess it helps with stability I do not understand why all houses in England do not have HVAC because it being the year 2023.
@@reno_with_us to clarify, you are saying your interior walls are brick or block and not aluminum or wood and that is why you have to plaster your walls and ceiling. If that is the case is the floor for your second level rebar concrete

Thank you, We love to hear that! Good luck with the plastering. Hopefully it turns out great😁
Can you explain the wood filler oart you mentioned? Im planning to do this after watching your video.
I think i showed it on later videos, but i basically just used wood filler up to the edge of the trim. It turned out really well👍

Can you show what tv bracket you used and how to use it for excess to the back of the tv many thank...And brilliant videos
Thank you!
We used a universal TV bracket that extends outward.
We are planning on doing a full video soon showing all of this. 👍

Future proofing the fire can it be removed without disturbing the wall??
It’s fully built in. But any faults should be accessible by removing the glass & panel
Do you not get cracking where it meets the original wall and ceiling?
No mate, I made sure the structure was solid so there wouldn’t be any movement
can you still take out fireplace if u need to
No mate this is built in now👍
You should put lux vinyl flooring throughout
Kiera hates vinyl so I’m not allowed 🤣
Why do you not have drywall throughout
Are your exterior walls cinderblock?
And walls are they steel, aluminum or wood framing?
We have brick walls throughout, typical for 1970’s houses in England
@@reno_with_us thank you for the reply

No, all floors apart from the garage, is wooden joists with wooden floorboards. I’ve never heard of walls being aluminium
@@reno_with_us framing is what I am asking
