Great camera angles Adam! you really get a sense of how steep those lines are. Plus the up close shots of articulation are amazing especially on those slopes!
Wow, looks so good. I’d love to switch my Komodo with the mini in order to get some speed back and also save some room inside the chassis. Gladiator is back in action!
Bought a mini Komodo months ago and was getting jerky glitchy feeling when I was 0 to 30% throttle range FOC. Anything after 40-50% throttle and it would perform as expected. I spoke to several people in the hobby and after spending hours and hours trying to tune it through the app I found the only thing that made it better was the following. FOC 10% Start up power very high. Punch 2. and the MAIN THING that changed it all was downgrading the updated firmware to version 1.7 from version 1.9. Running Lizard ultimate on 6.4V
great motor and great products, but there customer service need to have a talk, 10 days now and still wating on replacment esc from them, , you did a very nice job with the gladiator,!!!!!!
My micro komodo order was taking forever to ship, so I ordered the mini Komodo instead and I am glad I did. The smoothness and torque, not to mention how quiet it is, make this a huge upgrade over brushed motors. Would you still choose the micro komodo for smaller builds?
I still really like the micro komodo, but if I had the room, I would take this one in a heartbeat for all of the reasons you mentioned. But the super small footprint of the micro is very appealing!
Great video! Something some users might find useful is a direct comparison of the mini and micro komodos! Side question: do you know if the 11T pinion gear for the TRX-4m would fit on the mini komodo shaft?
@CapeCrawlers Out of all the motors you've tested, which setup has the smoothest power delivery curve? Like least amount of jumpiness as you squeeze the trigger. Great videos btw, love the channel
I’m thinking about ordering the mini Komodo. I have 3 of the large Komodo motors and 2 micros and a venom. So it’s about time to pull the trigger on a mini Komodo. I also have the purple ROP motor from mofo but it has way too much power for crawling. It seems like the mini Komodo is the best because it’s smooth like the Komodo but it has some torque like the micro. I just wish they sold it with an esc so I don’t have to order everything separately. And I don’t really care to have the stellar transmission because every Injora transmission that I have is great.
Ok I am convinced the brushless setup is the way to go, now that you have tested all four, which is your favorite the SMP, Mini Komodo, Micro Komodo, or Komodo. Pretty sure after watching this video I know the answer , I guess I am mostly curious about SMP vs Mini. Thanks again!
It’s very close between the mini and the SMP. They’re very similar. The mini matches the gladiator theme better (I’m a fan of the red/black) but the Mofo SMP really is an amazing motor

Your reasoning is undeniable! I am still loving the portals. They've held up really well! I have broken two axle shafts in the many months of ownership. Pretty impressive considering the abuse they've taken.

So, I'm not sure if I went the right route or not. I took my wrangler and turned it into an MT24, I'd guess you'd say. I purchased the furitek lizard pro brushless conversion, but one thing I need help with. Mind you, I'm really new at doing all this, so please bear with me. It appears I'll have to run stock transmission, but I'm not entirely sure. Do I need to rebuild it with a metal case, or can I leave it as is and install the motor and esc into it. Or am I overthinking all of it. I replaced the motor in it twice, and I let the stock burn out and replaced it with an injora. It burned out with esc when I tried a slightly stronger battery. So I replaced it with the same type from injora. Everything else in it is metal other than the transmission case and the axels, but I just ordered some ported axels. So if I lost you, which I do to people, I'm asking about the transmission replacement. Also, I was wondering about the shock setup for the MT24. I currently run 8 double barrels. It runs great but seems harder than what scale would be. Any ideas or thoughts would be highly appreciated by anyone. I'm open to any suggestions
I’ll weigh in on the transmission alone since I don’t have experience with the dual shock setup. I usually just replace the transmission gears but not the case in mine. When I starting getting into brushless power, that’s all I did and it held up great. Lately I’ve been doing the motor/transmission combos that have the billet cases and steel gears. But that’s mostly for convenience and not necessity

I'm having trouble with my newly installed lizard pro and mini komodo cogging and not sure where to put my throttle settings. I'm using the lizard pro with the stock spectrum esc and remote. It seems to do fine at super low throttle and WOT but there's a spot in the low range where it starts to cog. I'm also not sure if this could be attributed to the gears. I order the 12t Pinion and 0.5 spur but the inside Pinion diameter is not the same as the motor shaft outside diameter. Any ideas?
Hey man when you unpluged the lights from your receiver and plugged them back in did it still let you switch the flashing and off by the channel 3 if u end up knowing how to fix it pls lmk
Hi Adam, good job fella! So do you think this mini Komodo combo would now fit directly into the SCX24 Bronco without having to cut the stock front chassis plate, like you needed to do with the Komodo?
If you have the V1 (black esc/tx) it will work. You'll just need a Lizard Pro from Furitek to piggyback onto it. If you have the V2 (blue esc/tx) you'll need to overhaul it.
Kind of a noob here and I'm wanting to know more or less what exactly I would need to get my scx24 crawling a lot slower than stock but not spending way too much. ESC? Motor? Gears? From my understanding there's different price ranges from these furitek products. I don't mind spending some money, just don't want to go completely all out. Thanks in advance.
There's a couple ways to go about it. You can install an upgraded motor, something like a 66t 050 sized motor. That will give you more power and a smoother curve. You can also add underdrive gears. Injora makes a 33% underdrive set that will reduce your speed accordingly. Those two options are cheap and easy. You can also add an aftermarket esc depending on which model scx24 you have. The Furitek lizard pro works on a brushed setup and makes a big difference.
Great video!! 🔥🔥🔥 Would you be willing to rate the motors you have experience with? Best budget, best overall, best for speed, your personal favorite depending on conditions, etc?
I'm building a scx24 and looking at the Furitek SCX24 Komodo Ultimate Plus Brushless Conversion Kit cam this kit bolt to a stock transmission? And also what radio are using with Receiver
Yes, that kit will bolt up to the stock transmission. I am using the Furitek Avatar system on mine. But if you have V1 electronics you can use the stock setup. V2 (blue esc) are not compatible with the Furitek systems.
Enjoy your content ! I switched from the surpass 2204 to this motor paired with the original Tegu. Ive been having problems with cogging so i reset all parameters both on the app and my Noble 4. Seemed to help initially but began cogging again so i started changing the punch and curve. So far so good. Have you had any trouble like this?
Thank you! I haven't had cogging issues with the mini komodo, but I have with the big Komodo. I take the same approach you did: tweak punch, low speed, and curve until I'm happy!
im thinking of getting this motor and transmission combo, do you like the stellar transmission a lot over stock? also what radio and receiver do you recommend? not sure if I want to stick with stock for now with a lizard or upgrade. thanks for all your help
I like the stellar a lot primarily for convenience and peace of mind. I like to run metal transmission gears when converting to brushless and this just makes it really simple. You can buy metal transmission gears for the stock transmission and swap them easily, but I like the combo. I really like the Flysky GT5 radio/rx. It's a very capable and budget friendly option.
I ADORE the gladiator. It's by far my favorite build. It is nearly as capable as my comp style rigs but has unreal articulation and the aesthetic look I want. I wouldn't do anything different as I am very happy with it as is. The only thing I may do is a LCG chassis. Something like a hardpark goblin XL, but then I lose the front bumper, so I'm not sure.
So, my local Hobby store has the Komodo and stellar transmission. I really wanted to get the Mini Komodo and mini Stellar, but they're out of stock for a while. What's your opinion of the two? Is the Mini setup much better than the Regular Komodo? Should I just buy the regular setup? Or is it worth waiting for a backorder? I already have the Lizard Ultimate. Thanks!
The mini is great, and I do feel it has smoother power delivery down low than the Komodo and I do believe the mini Komodo is more powerful overall. Higher KV at least. It's biggest advantage is the small footprint, smooth power delivery, and gorgeous looks. If that sounds like it's worth waiting for, I would do so. But I love the Komodo setup in the Bronco and I have no desire to change it out for the mini - the difference just isnt that large
What transmitter do you use? I want to order this with the Lizard Ultimate, but I'm not sure if I'm going to need a new transmitter. I have a Spektrum Dx5C, so I'm hoping I can use that.
I use the furitek avatar combo on this one, but I’ve also paired it with the stock V1 electronics and a flysky gt5, all of which worked great. I am fairly certain the dx5c will work
@Cape Crawlers Thank you and I'm new to your channel and really appreciate the methodology of your presentations. Too many talk way too much about unrelated stuff.
I love your videos! I do have a question? How do you reduce torque twist? Do you have alot of weight on chassis? Does it matter which direction the motor faces? I have the kamoto and transmission, everything is upgraded on my scx24 jeep. Thank you!
It’s got a lot of weight. It still torque twists occasionally, but not terribly. I think the stock spring or no spring shock setup might help too because it sits bottomed out on the shocks/chassis, not giving it much room to twist. I don’t think it had much to do with the direction of the motor, but it suppose the weight distribution could impact the twist?
Wow, amazing video as always!! I've been looking at this motor for a while for my chevy C10 SCX24. I'm stuck between this one or the full-size Komodo. What are the differences in your opinion between the two?
This one feels smoother than the komodo. Also feels like the power hits harder, like it winds up faster when you nail the throttle. I haven’t done a speed comparison but I will. The komodo has a little bit more grunt off the bottom but it’s not as linear if a powerband as this one.
It would be ~$1k. I’m not interested in selling at this point. Builds may be something I offer in the future but I’m not there yet. If you check out We Were Kings RC they offer custom builds and do amazing work!
It will work on the V1 esc/rx (all black box) but not the V2 (black&blue box). You would also need an aftermarket esc like the furitek lizard to plug into the stock receiver. So it takes some additional upgrades to integrate into a stock setup.
Great video brother, yep I'm convinced, furitek is the way to go. I'm leaning towards the stinger 118 combo for the Trx-4m bronco , what's your opinion on this combo? Much appreciated 👍 Adam
I just installed the stinger combo in my TRX4M and it's awesome. Very easy install and it completely changes the character of the truck! I'll have the full review of it up on the channel this weekend.
only downfall to outrunner is ferrite and dirt gets stuck in the motor the sound they make when it binds feels $ in the can may be able to get or make a screen filter to help
I like the Injora aluminum links with the four link front. Shocks I like powerhobby or hot racing. 48mm seems to be the point of diminishing returns, so I wouldn’t advise longer than that. Diff covers I also like Injora, treal, or hot racing. I like a heavier cover in the front to bias weight forward
Damn, son, that whole thing on their site is $109.99...shit ain't cheap! Whereas on Amazon i found for $35.99, plus tax of course. Looks like a pretty good motor though...kinda has me interested. 🤔
The stellar combo's are pricey. The motor and mount is significantly cheaper. I needed the transmission because I donated it to the Ultra build, otherwise I would have just got the motor/mount
Have you ever looked into limiting straps for the long suspension? Idk if they make them for rc but if you had one placed in the center of the axle it would allow for the same articulation and get way better vertical climb performance.

It would be ~$1k. I’m not interested in selling at this point. Builds may be something I offer in the future but I’m not there yet. If you check out We Were Kings RC they offer custom builds and do amazing work!
What upgrades would you recommend to get 51 mm shocks
Limiting straps up front for sure. Other than that you don't need much
My front drive shaft broke because it was much flex
Will this work this well on the stock esc??
It will work on the V1 esc/rx (all black box) but not the V2 (black&blue box). You would also need an aftermarket esc like the furitek lizard to plug into the stock receiver. So it takes some additional upgrades to integrate into a stock setup.
Would this fit in the ultra24 chassis?
Yes it should. You may need to do some slight trimming but it should fit.
In which ways is the regular Komodo better than this?
I feel like it has more torque and power at lower throttle. The mini is soooo smooth but the komodo feels stronger
@@CapeCrawlers wow! Amagine that , two crazy minds think alike Ha! Ha!
only downfall to outrunner is ferrite and dirt gets stuck in the motor the sound they make when it binds feels $ in the can may be able to get or make a screen filter to help
Very good point. I've been fortunate not to experience that (knock on wood)!
My scx24 c10 is full original
Can you help me..
What kind of link you use and
Shocks and diff...
Sylvain from Montréal...
Can u reverse the motor so its not forwarded mounded
You would have to flip the skid plate around, which is easy to do
@@CapeCrawlers ok thx this would be my first brushless system
Damn, son, that whole thing on their site is $109.99...shit ain't cheap! Whereas on Amazon i found for $35.99, plus tax of course. Looks like a pretty good motor though...kinda has me interested. 🤔
The stellar combo's are pricey. The motor and mount is significantly cheaper. I needed the transmission because I donated it to the Ultra build, otherwise I would have just got the motor/mount
@@CapeCrawlers true
What are the specs on the mofo wheels / hubs
I went with the deep dish premium wheels and +3mm hubs. Aluminum wheels and brass rings. They were ~$45 I think?
@@CapeCrawlers yeah i already ordered the exact set up. I got the +3 hubs and +6 to play around witht he set up a little bit
UPW LGRP YES
Win win!
Have you ever looked into limiting straps for the long suspension? Idk if they make them for rc but if you had one placed in the center of the axle it would allow for the same articulation and get way better vertical climb performance.
Yes, and I like to use a rubber band right in the center just as you suggest 👍🏻

Curious if you like this motor?😂
Months later still super enthused with it!
would this motor work with the stock esc?
