In this video I install the engine and transmission back into the car now that it is painted and I've done the whole rewiring of my 1966 Mustang Fastback.
The car is a 1966 Mustang Fastback with a 347 Stroker and T5 transmission.

Good job. Last year I mentioned using an intake manifold vacuum gauge and here is why that would come in handy to give you another data point that the new engine is running right. Should be at least 20 inches of vacuum at idle with a steady needle. Low vacuum or twitching needle or a slowly varying needle indicates a problem. That loping cam may put a little wiggle in the needle but that's ok. Anyway, good work.
Thanks.
Great job! You have the patience of a saint!! I was trying to replace a corroded and leaking core plug in my '67 Fastback and literally turned the air BLUE with my swearing just trying to get the driver's side hedder out to get access to do the job!! I had to apologise to my neighbours afterwards!! 🙈
Haha, these projects bring out the best of us. :)
Hey Andy
I have your seat track extenders on my '65 FB.
I liked the edit where you sped up what you were doing as you were installing the engine and removing and reinstalling the header. And then you narrated over it. I like videos like that much more than just you speaking while you're doing the job.
Also, you have taken that car so far in such a short period of time
Cool, thanks!
Wow, looks and sounds great. Impressed with your abilities and positive attitude, even when things don’t go smoothly. Looking forward to your drive video.
Thanks! :)
Great job man! It's looking awesome!
Thanks. :)
Fantastic Andy - its so awsome to see your videos and get inspired. I have done som of your projects, and will surely do more projects with your guidance as an inspiration. Thanks Andy, and keep up the good work.
Awesome, thank you!
Hello 🤗 there again Andy, I'm glad you finally got back, to a "running" Stang again !!! Thanks for sharing all of your trials and tribulations on the engine reinstall... My 65 FB project is very similar to yours, so the assembly order issues, (I have the Scott Drake shorty headers), is great 👍 knowledge to smooth out my build.. I just ordered my 347 from Prestige Motorsports, so things are speeding up for me now !!! Looking forward to a new drive video to celebrate that new white "suite" paint job !!!!
Keep after it brother....
I enjoy following Prestige Motorsports, in fact, they're the reason I have Billet Specialties spark plug holders, I like the way they dress up their engines. :)
Woohoo.. great job Sir. I pickup my 73 Mustang today ..
Nice!!
Love the channel, Andy! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
Good job Andy. I’m very envious of you super clean engine bay. Next time you pull a motor a load leveler will make the job much easier. Harbor freight has them.
Thanks 👍
Love your videos Andy! Thanks for showing all the real moments on your journey. I have been updating and learning on my 65 Falcon wagon and I have the best time. Thanks for sharing your with us.
That is awesome, thanks for the support!
It may be time for you to put some videos of your build on TH-cam. :)
She sounds awesome!
Thanks! :)
Ha, I've made the same mistake with wiring and looming everything before being 100% sure everything was squared away. Just did it a few months ago when installing the sniper system. Look forward to some videos showing drivebys and pulls.
Yeah, I probably got lucky on this one, it could have been a lot worse. :)
Amazing work, enjoying the journey. Trying to do the same to my 65.
You can do it!
The car looks and sounds fantastic!
Thanks!
Looking and sounding good brother! I know that feeling of relief! Congratulations
Thanks 👍
Awesome Andy! How stoked are you?! Hell I'm stoked.. Long time coming. Glad to see that smile on your face.. Looks amazing!! 👍🏼
Pumped! And the weather has been nice so it's great to be able to enjoy it. :)
Car is coming together nicely. Great job..
Thanks 👍
Heck yeah congrats Andy! Car looks great and I’m excited for you!
Hoping I can get my trans installed and take mine out here soon as well.
Good luck, it'll be done before you know it. :)
Car sounds great! I’m still impressed you get the engine in with the hood on.
Ha, I would have forced it and probably scratched the hood if it meant I didn't have to remove it.
Stubborn, lazy, etc.... all the adjectives today. :)
Nice job looks great! If i lived close to you i would definitely be there to help you out! I have to do that this to my 65 Fastback, 351w. Maybe take the accessories off the front of the engine, sway bar off etc. Take your time.
Thanks! :)
That nylon loom is where it's at! Car looks amazing
Thanks!
Awesome getting it all back together Andy. You need to go get a lottery ticket after stabbing the transmission back in. Every time I have to uninstall/reinstall my T-5, it's a massaging process and by myself is a bear. Good Job!
Truth. I think the transmission Gods cut me a break on this one, figured I've suffered enough over the past several years. :)
That cam sounds really good. Looking good
Yeah, I'm happy with it too. :)
I was on the edge of my seat watching you mounting the engine and working on the headers without any fender covers. My man, you just painted that ride! 😱😱😱
I did that myself not too long ago. Just painted my own 65 Mustang (Wimbledon White like you, but no stripes, as mine is a coupe) and was installing a brake master cylinder without a fender cover…and I slightly scratched the fender (very tiny blemish, but still annoyingly frustrating)…I was so angry for being so careless… 🥺😭
Cool, so the videos are educational with a dash of drama. I win! :)
@@AndyKruseChannel 😂
Well done Andy....
Thank you. :)
you really should re-do that wideband bung. It looks like its at the bottom of the pipe. They are supposed to be going in from the top and at an angle. It protects them from condensation.
Understood.
👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿... Good job sir! 👍🏿
Thanks! :)
Nice video good job.
Thanks!
Nice work Andy
Thanks 👍
Cool fast back Andy
Thanks 👍
I love watching your gurney. The car sounds amazing! It's going to be a blast to drive.
Question is did you use the stock motor mounts or some other ones?
Stock mounts for now. I plan to do Ron Morris mounts down the road. :)
Nice job Andy. She's really looking good sounds great I'm sure in a couple more videos you'll be able to hear the exhaust from the rear of the car.
What headers brand did you go with if you don't mind me asking
Thanks. JBA Shorties, I have a video on them. :)
Sounds great
Thanks. :)
Good Job! :)
Thanks! 😄
I can't help but notice all the racks on your cabinets in the background. You should show some of your hunts. We only have white tail deer here in Ohio. Those mule deer? I can't tell.
Yes, Mule Deer. TH-cam is not 'kind' to those kinds of videos, so I tend to leave that part of my life off to the side. :)
@@AndyKruseChannel well, I enjoy doing that sport also. Feel free to share privately if you want. Lol
I was almost to that point after 6mo with no engine, but the intake wouldn't seal after 3 tries. Looking close my coolant ports on the heads have a little warpage and/or previous repairs. Waiting on blueprint support, not a fast process :(
Yeah, sometimes these hobbies throw some crazy curve balls. 🙂
Congratulations on “lighting the candle!” Just curious why you didn’t opt for mechanical oil pressure and water temperature gauges.
Because I don't want oil or coolant in my car if there was a leak. :)
Okay
Great job! Did you purchase the aluminum driveshaft or was it the previous owner?
It's steel, and it was on the car when I bought it. I had an aluminum shaft on my previous Mustang, and I'd like to do one on this car too. :)
Good job. How do you know so much? I could never take an engine out rewire and put it all back again.
Thanks! I'm a lot older than I look. :)
Another great video! Side question did you put wider wheels/tires on in the rear?
Still the same, but I'd like to drop down to 15" wheels. Hopefully later this year. :)
I thought the same, looks good on 16’s in my opinion 👍
Hey Andy, good stuff. I have a '65 and wondering what headers you use? happy with them? How about the oil pan? Thanks!
JBA shorties - they fit good, but now I need to explore some FPA tri-y headers with the larger engine.
Moroso 7qt pan - overkill for my application, but I get it for a fantastic price, didn't want to pass on 'race parts'. :)
Do you have a link to the spark plug wire separators you used? I like how the hug tight against the valve covers.
Billet Specialties. They're very pricey, but I've never seen a set do a better job. I'd buy them again if I had to. :)
Andy, can you share again the exhaust setup please?
JBA shorties (1650S) with JBA H-pipe (1650SH) and Flowmaster 40 series mufflers (42541). :)
Hello Andy, I am enjoying your videos. I am in the process of restoring ( not personal, in the shop) a 1968 Mustang coupe and thinking to drop in an crate engine. Do you have any plans to dyno your car or do you know how many ponies your 347 has? Best, Peter
Funny you should ask, pop back in this Thursday at 4:00pm PST and hopefully you’ll have the answer you are looking for. 😉
@@AndyKruseChannel I am going to buy some popcorn! 🙂
Bad ass Andy. You inspired me to also go with the 347 stroker on my '66FB. Do you recommend bolting the F/w + clutch + p.p. to the engine before dropping it in?
If you have the Export Brace and it is not installed, you could easily put those items on before putting the engine in the car. Otherwise, it might take a little more work and tilting of the engine. :)
Nice Work Andy Sounds Good what wire kit did you use ? Cause I have to do my 66 coupe 👌👍
American Auto Wire, I have a video on the install.
WooHoo!
Thanks! :)
did your alum drive shaft make a huge difference
It’s a steel driveshaft. My previous Mustang had an aluminum driveshaft. 🙂
Why the rear wheel looks a bit wider 🤔
Trick photography. :)
What size loom is that and do you have a link for it?
I used 4 different sizes, all purchased off eBay. :)
Algo 👍
What?
Where did you get that grill?
Just a stock grill, from Summit Racing, part number GMK-3020-050-66. :)
