PS2 is the goat of retro consoles
Glad to see you back m8. Just added a ps2 myself recently and there’s nothing like it. Nostalgia hits different. Pro tip also: the ribbon in the disc tray likes to come up on these older consoles and can scratch the disc. If you ever see a perfect circle on them, you know what it is. 🙏👍

I’ve been hunting nostalgia and I don’t have the time to play online anymore really! So I’ve turned my Xbox series s into an emulator to play old games! Only done PS2 so far but they run so well 😍 It’s coming home 🏴🏴🏴

I've not stopped using PS2 since about 2005. I still own one.
Plot twist: compared with PS5, the PS3 is pretty much retro. As a general rule, 20 years is 'retro', though when it comes to video games, many people use the term 'retro' to refer to anything before 6th gen, or even 5th gen. We don't really have a good framework for Atari 2600 vs. NES vs. PS1 vs. PS2 vs. PS3.
The fact your life seems to centre on modern Marvel also makes me feel old; and I highly suggest you dig into older cinema, as you're already on the old console train. Try Star Wars, Jaws, The Breakfast Club, Point Break, Princess Bride, Back to the Future, Rocky, Alien, Terminator, Nightmare on Elm Street, Full Metal Jacket, The Matrix, Batman, and The Lord of the Rings. I also suggest giving older Marvel movies a shot, including the X-Men movies, and other superhero/comic movies, such as Watchmen and The Crow. If you've not seen many TV shows, I suggest Prison Break, 24, Castle, and pretty much anything action-based from the 1990s. Lots of awesome stuff that pre-date the 2010s and 2020s. I love many Marvel movies, just not the latest ones. Really any from about 2003 to 2014.
As for retro consoles, I suggest PS1 games on the PS2 (fully BC), and maybe Xbox 360 + BC with Xbox games, and Wii + BC with GameCube games. Some great exclusives, too. Try Kya: Dark Lineage for PS2, along with other non-exclusive games such as Need for Speed: Underground 1 and 2, Tony Hawk's Underground 1 and 2, Aggressive Inline, Resident Evil 4 (plays best on GameCube, actually, but is perfect still on PS2), Fatal Frame/Freeze Frame, Ultimate Alliance, LEGO Star Wars 2, LOTR games, Guitar Hero 2 and 3, Prince of Persia, Simpson's Hit & Run, GTA VC, GTA SA, Need for Speed: Carbon, Sly, Crash Bandicoot, Harry Potter 1 and 2, Tekken 5, Metal Gear Solid 2, God of War, Jak, Ratchet & Clank, and Star Wars: Battlefront 2. Enjoy, and welcome to the amazing and truly vast world of PS2! :D

If you didn’t know you can actually turn the ps logo on the ps2 both for standing vertically or laying horizontally. You should turn it😂

At first it feels weird as saying it is retro as I was retro game collecting when this system came out 😅 But I guess it's fair... Personally I put the line at retro as before/after native HDMI support for modern TVs
Also, PS2 slims often lose the ability to read PS1 games before they break down totally, so even if those games work well I recommend buying a super cheap PS1 game to test it before investing in an expensive one!
