This was a particularly cooperative run. Cooperative by Deviljho, I mean. When I fight him with Lance, he does the unblockable pin attack like, 12 times in a single bout. So I try to get damage in and all that happens is I get eaten.
This video is a bit more helpful for dealing with that: th-cam.com/video/0FZcUwnfxUY/w-d-xo.html As for noticing the pin attack, Jho often follows up with it after its side-swinging attack, with this more likely to happen if Jho goes past you. If that head starts swinging in every direction, the pin is about to be performed. Jho's landing spot is selected based on when it started shaking its head, and you can either multi-hop out of the way or use Advancing Guard to get out of that position.
@@KCGemini I didn't realize he actually did a tell with that attack! But, Jho is so big, usually his head is off-camera. I just knew if he jumped, I was doomed. And he'd jump a lot. Sure, I'd survive, but it's annoying to just have to sit there while Jho's just gnawing on you and there's nothing you can do about it. I'll have to look at Jho's head whenever it's actually on screen! (Video was helpful, too)
It has two options when deciding to do its pin attack that you have to look out for: A) When S. Jho does its "swooping" attack (throws its head to the left and right while coming towards you); at the end of it, if you're close to him, it'll stomp. If you're about a roll's distance or more away, instead it'll follow it up with the pin attack. B) Whenever S. Jho starts shaking its head/body erratically is when it's performing the pin attack. *This animation is what you want to watch out for *as this is signaling when it is going to do it. As with option A, it will show said same animation at the end of the swooping attack. When you see this, you can either use Advancing Guard to get out of the way or do a few back/side hops as it'll land at your position.
i'm just going thru all your speedruns now and amazed by all of htem, as far as i know your the only one doing regular lance speedruns? anyway, i was wondering why the full safi armor choice for this fight, what are the pros of using full safi with lance? i get resentment and all, but is possible to accomplish the same with agi/coal build, without the hp loss. thanks for your time and the answer on the old gold rathian video :)
Nah, there's quite a few of them actually! iceborne.seiken.io/ mhwleaderboards.com/ Safi's set these days tends to be best for adding a bit of extra elemental damage, so Kjarr works for it nicely. In the case of here, it's actually a partial Safi set + Kaiser for Master's Touch. Being near Savage Jho's belly when it's enraged drains your HP; which during his knockdown and claggers, you'll often be near or on its belly. Due to that, some of my damage wasn't maximized with that particular set. Coalescence would be nice for S. Jho, but you'll have to trade the damage boost for time to heal the status effect as Dragonblight can last for quite a while.
or use resistor skill? i know is not convenient for speedrun...anyway i just tried lance with full safi, without heals on aug of course, but the damage output was basically the same as agi/PP or agi/coal, QoL of course is better with the here above mentioned builds. but im curious to know what is exactly the benefits opf a safi build for lance??outside the elemental damage.
@@cronos67123 I should reiterate this a bit more clearly. Being near Savage Jho's belly while it is enraged drains your HP. During its unique stagger, knockdown, and clagger, you will be right beside it; which will drain your HP. This will deactivate Peak Performance and lower your damage output. Intentionally boosting with Coalescence + Resistor would be similar to just raising Attack Boost; and you want to keep your damage output up to keep S. Jho in a state of staggers/knockdowns. Running into ground breath would also end PP and it is quite dangerous as Jho has no problems following said attack up with something else. Coalescence works best when there is not much danger in getting the buff + it wastes little to no time. It's inconvenient in this case. Basically, the Safi + Kaiser set here is maximizing damage since the HP drain from the belly doesn't affect you in the slightest. Safi's ability allows you to go all in on attack augs (or allows for some free affinity) because of the healing mechanic.

@@dcshiori Not KC but I asked a similar question on a previous video of his. KC got 4 blasts this run, which is 1200 damage, and he probably hit under 200 times. Let's be generous and say he hit 200 times- this would require each poke to deal 6 dragon damage. With the amount of dragon damage on the dragon safi lance, this would require a 0.3 dragon hitzone on savage deviljho's chest, which while possible, is also very high, and this assumes he hits the chest 200 times (which he probably doesn't in this run). EDIT: just did a rough count, and it's not close to 200 pokes. He probably hit deviljho a total of around 130 times. In short, on low element weapons, status (especially blast) is almost always better than element unless the monster is especially resistant to blast damage.
Great run. Wouldn't the new Agitator Secret set you ran against Velkhana be better here too? I thought Resentment meta was worse with blast/non-elemental weapons.
Not KC and will wait for his response for sure, but I would guess the reason is that the agitator secret build relies on peak performance uptime which is hard to keep up against savage deviljho having some unavoidable dragon damage over time. The difference between the builds is 3 true raw and a bit of extra blast, so that's not a very big sacrifice if you think you won't have great uptime on peak performance.
You also eventually knock if out of rage mode through countering the counter, so relying on Agitator 7 for so much of your raw and affinity doesn't seem all that hot. It's not a lot of downtime, but it's there... Along with PP uptime, I can see Resentment being better for this matchup. Of course, that's assuming you can deal with the HP drain from the SAfi set, which I absolutely hate ugh.
There is. Being near Savage Jho's chest causes your HP to drain down. This also includes you attaching to it with the clutch claw. It's the main reason I use Resentment over Peak Performance as I'm not going to be able to keep my HP full and get the bonus raw from it.
