During the 2013 Concorso d'Eleganza of Villa d'Este, in Italy, I filmed the Ralph Lauren's Bugatti Type 57 SC Atlantic (chassis 57591). This car is deemed as "the most beautiful car ever made" and "the ultimate Bugatti creation" by many people. I'm not sure I belong to one of these category of people (probabily because I'm not a fan of luxury and very old cars) but I had to admit this car has left me quite amazed.
The car was the last one of only four Type 57 SC Atlantic ever made. It was built in 1938 for a British enthusiast who kept it for about three following decades. In the subsequent 20 years, the car passed to various hands untill, in 1988, it was acquired by the fashion designer Ralph Lauren who decided to restore it (when it was produced this Atlantic was painted in a sapphire blue colour). In 1990, after a two years restoration, the car made its post-restoration debut and immediately won the "Best of Show" award at the Pebble Beach Concours.
The Atlantic is moved by a 3.3 liter Supercharged straight 8 engine which can produce 210 bhp @ 5500 rpm and reach a top speed of 210 km/h (130 mph).
The car is also well known to be the world's most expensive car after that, in April 2010, the first 1936 Bugatti Type 57 SC was sold privately for an amount between 30$ - 40$ million.

That car is a masterpiece a beautiful old car with a strong personality and a magnificient design.
Too bad that is so expensive and there are only too available.
I'm 22 and I think it's utterly gorgeous. Right along side a McLaren F1 LM, a 1960 Corvette, and a Maserati GranTurismo. You don't have to be old or young to enjoy the looks of any kind of car.
feel any different being 32?
@@ves9162 j'imagine qu'il a malheureusement perdu son compte, j'aurais aimer savoir aujourd'hui
Personnellement j'adore cette voiture c'est sûrement ma voiture favorite
Same age jag XKE is better
Now you're 32.
11 years later and now i'm 22, you're 33,we still both enjoy looking at that masterpiece
Just imagine seeing that in 1930....
8 years before it's time !!!!! that would have been pretty amazing !!!!!
e.g. Smith Actually 7 seeing as early build dates typically precede model years and the 57SC was no exception.
It was too far ahead of its time. And yet, it didn't have windshield wipers. Probably would have taken away from its beauty.
@@markbrock4170 All 4 Atlantics has windshield wipers, what are you talking about?
they're even visible in the video
Reminds me of a version of the batmobile.
4 has been made. Only 2 exist. Sad, really sad. What a masterpiece!
Martin Karlsson Apparently only 2 originals were made. But people who had the 57S wanted to have a power upgrade to made it like the 57SC.
One was crashed in the 1950, and rebuilt recently. So, there will be 3 existing
@@benoitseizieme and one is disappeared
@@InBoostWeTrust7MGTE They are found him in England last year,50 years of restoration, they expect abot 7 mil£ or 9 millin $!!!

Wow, I have always been fascinated with this car. I had the privilege of seeing this car in person a few years ago in Montreal. It was in a small gallery that I just happened upon while in the city. I will never forget it. I had my camera and took some pictures. What a car! Didn't hear it run though, till now. Thanks!
0:32 i love the startup
Must be great to see one of the most beautiful cars ever made in person...
The guy driving it has some balls.

What an amazing design! Beauty!
This is one of my favourite cars of all time. Just stunning
Love the start up what a sound,
The cold start was particularly interesting. Almost like a plane starting!
@@MrBenHaynes Yeah, was cool. You could see each cylinder fire.
This is a most beautiful vehicle
What a stylish body, not like todays model cars.
The Italian styles have always been at the peak of designs.
Love it,love it,love it.
So lavish for it's time absolutley incredible 👍👍
Bugatti is French mate..
OMG THE INTERIOR LOOKS SOOOO GOOOODDDD
Man u´re the best! This is the most beautiful (classic) car on earth
Sounds nice and the doors are awesome
hand-crafted, probably the most beautiful thing man has ever created
He really likes driving cars! Golfers outfit, with racing shoes! Awesome xD
Great clip again Bozzy :-)

Master piece
Le genie de Ettore et Jean Bugatti.Des artistes!!👍👍😍😍
I like french cars ! Beautiful !
it's italian actually
Italian? because on the name? Bugatti started in Molsheim, in Alsace and that is in France. Now if it take the name of a founder to make the brand a certain nationality, I supposed Alfa Romeo is French then!
@@gchelem Ettore Bugatti Milanese who immigrated to Alsace occupied by Germany back then and woke up in France.
Anyway it's a French brand owned by the Germans founded by an Italian.
A true European car.
That is a truly beautiful automobile.
my god what a magnificent beauty
Such a beauty
Pure class!
Awesome car !!
I'm 15 and i think this car is gorgeous, one of the best next to the D and E type jags.
Amazing car!
positive camber like a boss

Beautiful car well ahead of its time.
Great info there..
That exhaust is cool
I like the way it sounds
I have seen this car when was passing my house. What the sound
thumbs up for the spray job on that bad boy!

Ralph Lauren has one of the greatest car collections. However I wish he'd bring his collection out more and I'm not talking about his cloths.
Yeah, one to rival that American dude that always wears Denim jeans and a chambray shirt.
It's cool ride that clutch, I bet they have those in stock at Autozone.
Right hand drive as well 👌
I don't care about their hypercars, I just want Bugatti to start designing icons like this again.
Why do the wheels have so much positive camber??
If I get to see this thing in the flesh just ONCE before I die, I will forever be a happy man! While I'm dreaming might as well throw in a Voisin C28 Aerosport too...
Questa sì che è una macchina elegante!
Who was driving it ?
Looks like the original Batmobile ! :)
id like to know why too
6 exhaust pipes...?
M A R V E L L O U S !!!!!!
you guys are forgetting the ferrari testa rossa the one that is really light i think it was made in 1959 correct me if im wrong but is the one that looks like a go cart sold for 50 mill$$$
wow, they actually drove the car to the show! one would guess they would unload it from an armoured trailer :-P
Why does it have 6 exhaust pipes??
0:33 That has got to be the weirdest start-up sound I have heard yet.
What kind of looks does he get when he drives away in this after a show?
👀
When I see cars like this it reminds me of the quote, "This is proof that God loves us."
It needed the large volume 6 small pipes combined would have, but one large pipe wouldn't fit under the car properly.
Be nice if a company would recreate this car I would buy it hands down
As somebody who knows nothing about cares, can anyone please explain why the second driver fucks with the shifter three times before ever moving?
***** Probably no other reason than to make sure it's firmly in gear, and it the proper gear as well. It would be mighty embarrassing for the driver if he accidentally selected third instead of first and stalled the thing out, or didn't have it all the way in gear and jumped to neutral (with a nasty grind of the gears). A bit of nerves getting the better of the driver perhaps, but its always best to check things. I do the same thing with my few standard shift rigs.
***** If you paid attention the "second driver" is the same person that originally moved the car. Also if notice when the driver moved the car the second he put the car in gear and pulled it out again and put it in gear again but when he started to let off the clutch he starter to go backwards for maybe 6 or so inches and he put the engaged the clutch again and the got the car in first gear(or maybe third) and drove forward. I have driven a number of pre-wwII cars and each one of them's gearbox has it's own personality. Remember no of these gearboxes were synchronized and some of them had strange shift patterns compared to today's cars. An one thing's for sure if you are the driver\care taker of Ralph Lauren's 1938 Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic you sure as hell don't want to be grinding them to find them. Hell this guy is looking at the dust on the car and thinking I have at least a week's worth of work detailing it when I get it home. By the way they are only something like 3 of these cars in existence in 2010 a 1936 model sold for just under 40 Million Dollars.
gullreefclub
huh
wow.
this is not a Bugatti Alantic type 57 sc because the type 57 sc had wheeel covers and the Bugatti type 57 havn't wheel
cover
Only thing i'm proud about myself is that my birthday is same as Jean Bugatti's...
Cool
Why is the car black and not blue
That is a lot of Prius repellent out it's exhaust pipe
Man I can almost smell that exhaust with gold old leaded fuel right through my phone so many young people will never know that smell
What's the 0-100 time on this one, anyone knows?
It's 0-100 time is estimated about 10.1 seconds!
Needs mor exhausts
it's a straight 8
Nice outfit haha
This is the personal Ettore Bugatti Atlantic #Bugatti110ans
Is that Ralph Lauren driving it?
My grandma was a teenager at this age she wishes she had it lol
Or 0-60 if you use mph.
What kind of engine is in that V8 straight 8? or??
gotta be a v12.
Snivelin J no. not the old Bugatti. sorry.
alright i rewatched it and now i think im pretty sure its a v12 the tone is too diff for a 8 cylinder
Keep that.
Veyron has exactly the same sound !!
Cripes ! Six seperate Exhaust pipes ! Is that Unique? TAXI ! imagine that turning up.
I wonder... does this one like the classics while it's family member the veyron likes pop?
needs an engine rebuild!!!!all that smoke!!!!
Sounds like the hover thing from water hazard in Half Life 2
Do they even drive this thing?
Obviously not

The only 1 of 3, that didn't have wire wheels.......
Thats a replica no?
No, this is chassis 57591. This is one of the 2 original Atlantic bodied Type 57's
