    In an effort to provide comfortable and affordable journey to common passengers, the Indian Railways said it soon introduce non-AC Vande Sadharan train with Sleeper and General facility. As per the latest updates, the non-AC Vande Sadharan trains will be manufactured at ICF Chennai at an estimated cost of Rs 65 crore and the first rake is expected to be rolled out by this year-end.The Indian Railways said that the first Vande Sadharan train rake is expected to be rolled out by the end of this year. On the other hand, the fully AC Vande Bharat train, featuring seating arrangements, is being manufactured at ICF, costing approximately Rs 100 crore.
    Reports suggest that the Vande Sadharan train will have 24 LHB coaches and two locomotives at both the front and rear ends to ensure efficient acceleration. The train’s acceleration rate will be enhanced by utilizing the push-pull method with two locomotives.

      @@arjunvn5679 money goes to coal and power sectors and also Air conditioning factories. if we are building massive solar and nuclear plants who's going to use them? and compared to EV power spike this is nothing. more spending = more jobs = more spending power.
      now more better solution is to increase efficiency with inverter ACs. more or less its equal to fans. imagine 30 fans per coach vs 10 ton AC coach after initial cooling it will work at 30% capacity

    I travelled in Vande Bharat Express from Mumbai to Ahmedabad and trust me, the whole train was almost occupied initially in Mumbai.

    IR officials are out of their minds. Vande Bharat was introduced as a premium semi-highspeed train with a top speed of 180 kph. But till now it failed to achieve an average speed of even 100 kph. Instead of moving up the ladder this train is being relegated to the level of a medium distance local EMU. Sad! Very sad!

      I read somewhere that vande sadharan wouldn’t even be emu. It would be in push pull configuration by traditional locomotives. So other than just giving it catchy name it’s definitely a step back.

      @@casnub5484 that would make it a traditional train with a catchy name with speed much lesser than 130kmph since its non ac. It wont even have acceleration of emus.

      @@SiddharthRaiyani So many Non ACs run at 130 that too 21-22 of those LHB coaches speed ultimately depends on route, any LHB take can easily do 130. That's fine. Low cost trains don't have to use a full fledged trainset especially in India since every penny has to be used practically.
      The routes where VBs are running at 130, even Intercity Express and Superfasts are running at 130 km/h. There's no point for an EMU Vande Sadharan. Some bloke asks what about the poor people and the ministry came up with a quick fix solution. Even the naming isn't needed.

      But air conditioning comes at a massive environmental cost. We are already suffering from air pollution. Running AC coaches requires us to burn massive amounts of diesel worsening this issue. Some other idea of better ventilation should be implemented.

      When all other countries has made there trains fully AC including China has done it with similar population only when India try to make there train all AC suddenly environment is in danger.

    Even VB without having a double track is a terrible idea. VB should run on dedicated tracks to realise its full potential. More VB on existing routes will slow down other trains.

      That's because of priority system and saturation of existing lines. These problems need to be addressed first instead of using quick fix ideas like dedicated lines. A dedicated line becomes a necessity for True HSR not vande bharat. Also a route that sees 2 vande bharats in each direction for the entire day doesn't need it's own line. It's just too expensive

    we should also add extra tracks on existing lines in mission mode after we electrify the tracks 100%, this will increase the speed, reduce the waiting time for shunting and save a lot of operational expenditure. China has 4 or 6 tracks to its most of lines while we just have 2. This will also increase the bargaining power of IR for freight customers if IR can serve them faster. also it will bring a lot of goods moving on roads, reducing NH congestion and accidents, saving dollars in petrol imports, reducing logistical cost, boost export ecosystem. reduce Odisha like accidents.

    IR can introduce double decker ac vande bharat to accommodate more people and also increase coaches from 16 to 24 and reduce cost so non ac vande bharat can be avoided.

    Vande Bharat is not only symbolic for indigenous manufacturing but also for speed.
    Non AC rakes will compromise with speed due to air drag issues.
    We can make MEMU for passengers but let us not call it Vande Sadharan or strange names.

    i think TOP MOST priority for IR SHOULD BE to reduce travel time and include all the passengers who end up cancelling their tickets due to non confirmation, its a loss to both railway and customers adding to the misery of both, we should focus on how we can add extra boogies on demand and ensure ticket to all willing passengers and we must increase the length of old platforms to support extra boggies. @PT please correct me if I am wrong.

      Vande Bharat reservations should be like Janshatabdi. Opening a week before departure date. That will help provide guaranteed seats to travellers at short notice.

    if you bring down prices, you can cater more people, eventually the net income will be probably the same because trains will be more packed. design the trains in way that it can carry more passengers. double decker trains are a good option just like in europe.

    As you said railway should work on following instead of making non-AC vande Bharat:
    1. More efficient air circulation or air conditioning tech to save money.
    2. Increase seat capacity in AC coaches in both seating and sleeper.
    3. Decrease facilities in coaches than 2nd AC.
    4. More effective ticketing system like dynamic pricing. If you book ticket long before you have to pay little more than SL.
    5. Instead of vande sadharan IR can run more Antyoday expresses for reduced passenger load.
    6. Pricing should not be more than 20-30% of SL class and IR should compensate this pricing from other areas.
    7. IR should find solutions for lower maintenance of these coaches. Solutions like mass producing and simple design.
    8. Tracks should be upgraded. If a train takes 70% of its previous time to cover a certain distance cost will automatically reduce for AC and pricing will also be more rational.

    In India, poverty is celebrated instead of improving the overall standard of living. India's per capita income growth in real terms is so slow that AC is still viewed as luxury in India considering we are a tropical country.

    Good analysis. Vande Bharat Express should be only AC trains like Rajdhani and Shatabdi Express trains. Government may think of increasing the number of Gareeb Rath trains and also increase the general passenger trains for common public that use General class to travel. Also, increasing the number of tracks is the only long-term solution.

    I know this might sound stupid, But instead of introducing non-Ac-The railways should reduced the number of toilets from 4 to 2 and increase the sitting capacity with reduced leg space and the seating configuration should be like of the Jan shatabdi express.

    Instead of making non ac vande bharat express they should maintain the non ac coach quantity or introduced Dedicated normal non ac trains like antodaya express which will 10-12sleeper coaches and 6-7general and 1-2 3Ac becoz there is no sense of making non ac vande bharat becoz non ac trains already can't run in higher speed or more then 130kmph

    i think non-AC Vande Bharat trains is a bad idea. With the newly built Dedicated Freight Corridors (DFC), income to railways from the more-profitable goods transport sector is going to increase rapidly. With a fast growing Indian economy, this income growth will accelerate further. It is therefore highly possible for the goods sector of the railways to subsidise and bear some of the losses of the passenger sector in terms of lower ticket prices that poorer people can afford to pay for AC Vande Bharat trains. It is very important for all sections of Indian society to enjoy the same essential features of Vannde Bharat trains.

      @@ind-rishiyt1600 listen in tropical countries luke india AC is not luxury but necessity, we should be targeting for 100% AC services in public transport with same price of for example recently launched AC city buses in jaipur have same prices as non AC buses, so why not applying same principles on trains???
      Public transportation should aim for facilities not for profits, in past years indian railway always try to provide facilities for passengers trains not for profits they always earned profits from fright train services, even if tehy want to increase prices it should be around 110% to 150%

      10% higher electricity usage for ac coaches. But ofc maintenance and upfront cost would be higher for ac coach. Ticket prices are difficult cause non ac are heavily subsidised while 3rd ac is the only profitable class in railway.if you remove some subsidy from non ac and decrease ac ticket prices then the difference could be decreased much.

      @@SiddharthRaiyani we operate economy ac class where temperature could be around 25 26 so that it uses less electricity? So that we can match ticket price with sleeper (may be little higer that sleeper )
      Also AC coach might give better aerodynamic benifits because of closed windows and reduce air drag

      @@ashiqdey nice suggestion but with more people generating heat ac with 24 degree max would still be needed. Still could save much electricity. But operating cost isn't even that much higher in the first place. Railway could decrease 3rd ac cost if they ditch the mentality that ac is luxury.

    I dont understand, why dosent india just set new standards and keep ot the same for every train! Regardless of the route. Sleeper and seating should be the only difference. We dont need 2A/1A. Just give 3A to everyone and seatinf for everyone with AC. And charging ports and a good washroom! How hard thay can be. People can opt whether they want food or not and keep strict cleaniness standards as they do for metros! Put mkre and more advertisement and sponspored products to increase the profits! Substitute the electricity generation part to get cheaper and cheaper electricity to reduce the upfornt cost. And I am pretty sure railwyas with make decent among of profits or atleast break even. it isnt thag difficult. Indian railways lack vision. I think standardised high speed trains (with capacity to reach international speeds) should be the first step and then replacement of railway tracks to high speed ones should be the second step. The main goal should be to reduce the time taken and the cost making it as affordable as possible.

    If Indian Railway introduces ac train in the fare of non ac trains which are already highly subsidised then majority of the ac passengers will move to low cost ac coaches with less facilities. Because in a poor country like India most of the people will be trying to have lower cost rather than good facilities like reclinable seats, vaccum toilets etc. Ultimately passengers from high fare segment will decrease and subsidised ticket passanger will increase which will further increase Indian railways' losses.

    The first and primary project the govt should aim is to built world class airport like toilets which are countinously cleaned and kept ready for use in railway stations. That is a part which is still being forgotten and its very important.

      That can change if train coches have gaurds who also work as tc and are strict. One gaurd for 2 couches should be affordable and exilent . But they should be local employee and cheap with wages around 12,000 to 15,000 a lot of people will be happy to do the job.

    They can make trains in which AC will be on during summer and turned off in other seasons and keep the ticket price same . The AC does not need to be very powerful but at least keep the temperature around 25° C

    Maintenance of these trains is very important. I was traveling in Deccan Express in Vista Dome coach and the window tint was uneven and had bubbles which made the view look very bad. Whats the point of paying high fare where you cant even see the beautiful view outside. The coach is not serving it's purpose which it is supposed to do.

    Agree with your points. Non-AC Vande Sadharan trains, with improved facilities, may be a transition phase, hopefully. Within 5-7 years there must be no Non-AC passenger trains in India. Subsidizng these trains is a must then. Vande Sadharan name is very bad. Should NOT use the 'Vande' brand name here if it's non-AC.

    Even Mass Production of Vande Bharat and replacement with standard locomotive train in India is a good Idea by Government . Imagine all red and blue coach trains vanish just like trains on 1960s and all Vande Bharat type trains with 160-200km/hrs speed is worth consideration. Thus will set new standards as well as Speed boost. Moreover all Vandebharat (AC, Non Ac) and No LHB trains will ease modus Oprendi of railway as well as (These Vande Bharat are more efficient than normal trains) improved efficiency.

    Bhopal - indore vande bhart is failure only 47 - 50 people travelling in it out of full capacity of 500+, because fair is 600 and it takes 4 hrs while you travel with vb with bus it cost 350and 3 hrs...both money and time can be saved

    But as per capita income of indians is steadily increasing, they will be able to afford, or you can say ac trains fare will be equivalent to non ac fare that time.(relatively as compared to today when income is low)
    Temperature is going to be such a liability in the future considering global warming for a country like india, having non ac trains will actually prove to be curse for the gdp while ac will be a necessity.

    They just want to keep on skimming the ticket price with ac and high top speed as luxury item. Electricity usage is maybe just 10% higher than non ac coach but look at the ticket cost. They don’t even give you high speeds as promised and yet they charge for speed and ac. Ac should be standard for all trains with decent speeds.

    If the train runs at 130 to 150 km per hour it must have air cooled coaches. Travelling at that speed keeping the windows open condition will be very difficult because of wind and sound.

    EMU & MEMU Unreserved Passenger Train Services are far better when it comes to faster acceleration along with less fare. Common commuters preference would be Basic Passenger Trains. Hope Vande Sadharan would serve all this kind of basic amenities.

    Its about efficient usage of a train.
    Even now most vande bharat are least efficient including NDLS BSB VB.
    Vande bharat means time savings at frequent acceleration deceleration. Its ideal for trunk route frequent stopping important trains to keep schedules. eg Poorva exp, Paschim exp.
    Technically CSTM Raj >= Vande bharat in terms of operational efficiency.
    most VB is under utilised.
    KSG VB is best utilised.

    Not supporting innovation and going back in technology will only cause problems.
    See ISRO launched satellites to forecast weather which is helping Indians to avoid climate disaster and help with a lot of security in a similar fashion people in AC trains will feel good and will result in better productivity.
    To improve on earning the Indian railways should focus on freight corridors more and cut down cost on passenger trains like make the food paid instead of complimentary and be on time to become reliable.

    Gareeb Rath was one such initiative. Extra seats were added to manage the cost.
    People made a lot of fun with that idea ( because it came from Lalu) yet it was a revolutionary concept.

    I think if the general compartment get Air conditioned then we can eliminate the non-AC class. Vande bharat with sleeper births air conditioned but few general compartments. So that lower income group gets to travel in case all reserved seats get booked in "all AC train" kind of situation.

    with just rs.12 crore extra (for second loco) Any train == VB.
    So, Push pull should be norm for non stop trains (including Rajdhani Shatabdi Vandebharat).
    VB-EMU should be norm for daily trunk route intermittent stop trains (eg. Dakshin, GT Mail GT exp).
    Then only operational efficiency is improved at lower cost of expenditure.

      A much needed fare hike. I am sick of seeing Railways being kept artificially cheap for ' poor ' people. If adjusted according to the inflation rate and the historic value of currency, railways (including AC classes and premium train services) have been kept dirt cheap. All local trains should be fully AC (as AC is a necessity) and the minimum fare should be at least 50% higher than what it is now. No more of this ' poor people ' nonsense.

    Instead of removing AC they can add more seats per coach. Instead of 70 seats they can add 85 seats.

    I think if we make a sadharan vande bharat then in a place of Ac just add good fan like a flat fans for air and keep design same as Vande bharat don't make open window

    साधारण वंदे भारत वातानुकूलित होनी चाहिये| डिब्बो का इंटिरिअर, सीट व्यवस्था और टॉयलेट मेल/एक्सप्रेस के सेकंड क्लास सीटिंग जैसा होना चाहिये जिससे प्रोडक्शन कॉस्ट कम होगा| टिकिट किराया मेल / एक्सप्रेस के सेकंड क्लास सीटिंग से लगभग 30 प्रतिशत से जादा नही होना चाहिये|
