    If possible, when you buy a “cold air” intake, try to buy a closed system with a sealed box, these ensure that hot air from the engine bay isn’t taken in at all, and it’s much simpler than drilling a hole through your headlight

    A better somewhat affordable option is to see if your car has a trim level with fog lights in the bumper and buy the empty panel for it. You could attach some tubing to the hole and run that to your intake. I did that on mine and never had an issue with rain, bugs, or dirt. I was even able to use the original filter box which made connecting the tubing even easier.

    • @ChefofWar33
      @ChefofWar33 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      Lol. That's not how it works dude. You need a massive amount of water to cause any damage at all. You would be surprised at just how much water can be injected into an engine before anything bad happens. Hell, a little bit of water injection is actually helpful for more power and cleaning the gunk built up in the engine.

    • @07slowbalt
      @07slowbalt 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@ChefofWar33you guys are diving into this way too deep. That filter will be saturated after a mile of driving in the rain so power wise you'll actually lose power. Yes small amounts of water can act like a steam cleaner, but nobody is fixing say "dirty valves" by ingesting water. As far as power goes its not meth or windshield washer fluid so outside of some slightly cooler air temps your not achieving much as far as performance goes. For your last point yea im aware hes not dunking the engine in a pond so the risk of hydro locking the engine is slim. Only takes one large puddle to ruin your day.

    • @ChefofWar33
      @ChefofWar33 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @07slowbalt I drive a C5 Corvette damn near every day and the air intake for those things is actually under the car. I drive it through torrential rain all the time. I only ever have to worry about hitting extremely deep puddles. Like what you are saying. Water tends to get trapped on the filter, so barely any of it makes it in the intake. And the water that does, just decreases intake temps even further and gives a bit more power.

    • @07slowbalt
      @07slowbalt 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ChefofWar33 its aimed
      down in the nose of the car. Its not a direct hole being forced down a tune to your filter lol But yes i get what your saying. Something worth noting is whether or not your running an oiled vs dry filter. That can have two different outcomes. My 2018 f-150 has a slot between the hood for direct airflow to the gen 3 yote. My s&b intake changed the design a bit but still allows for pooling of water beneath the filter.

    Those aftermarket air filters don’t do a as a good job as the paper filters when filtering out particles. If it’s not a race car it’s usually better to just leave stock intake setup if it’s a daily (especially with avg lack of maintenance I see) and if you want some performance get a k & n stock drop in instead. Usually Less heat , water , debris and sometimes engineering reasons. Depending on the car I would or wouldn’t do it but For example my car I wouldn’t it’s a 13 Mazda 3 with a skyactive engine it has 13-1 compressions ratio and is a direct injection engine that needs that factory intake system to function properly because it essentially creates pressure in the intake system past 4500 rpm and the way all the tubing it’s designed the pressure build up won’t impede the incoming air. If u don’t it can starve engine of air and cause pre detonation etc Its a long complicated subject on that car specially but just do some research before mods on your car. Figured some might find this useful.

  • @fear._iscool1542
    @fear._iscool1542 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Yea it will work a little better but filters can only take so much air and wind if you put it on remember the air filter will dent and bring in bad stuff in engine because the air is not being properly processed in the intake unless she is tuned because of the way your engine is made it will not be able to suck in pounds of air at one’s without messing with the spark be careful out there

      @@GibbysGarageOfficial right on!! I was thinking about doing a ram jet set up on my Chevy S10 2.2 I've got a cold air intake. I made my own heat shield. I also put headers on it and gradually brought the diameter of my exhaust from 1¼" all the way up to 4" and it sounds and runs so much faster then stock. I might get a jet chip and see if that gives me a better auto shift response.

    It’s almost like a stock intake has tubing to directly feed air into it, and have a box to prevent heat from going into it…
    It’s almost like the stock intake is a cold air intake… who knew?!

      U would think u cold air intake actually pulls cold air in no it doesn’t when it’s cold out yeah but most of the time doesn’t make much a diff so I mean at least he’s actually getting air and there a filter there’s more lowkey ways to do it but fuck it

    cool and all but it’s impractical, it won’t make you any more power. this is done on track cars to reduce IAT’s and mitigate heat soak while racing, no benefit from having it on a street car, which i’m assuming this is.

    I got a honest question please only right answer, I got a Tacoma and installed K&N cold intake and I haven’t done what he did to his truck thinking that the rain will get to the motor and damage my motor, so basically it’s sucking hot air instead of cold air. My question is… is it safe to do this? I live in a tropical climate

    • @GibbysGarageOfficial
      @GibbysGarageOfficial  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It’s safe to do it but there’s no point it’s mostly just a meme lol. Get an enclosed box for your K&N and it’ll work much better at keeping temps low!

    Do you know how air flows? On a flat object like that more air would move over it like it’s a flat surface the only way to make that work correctly would be too make a funnel for the air to slip into. Not saying no air gets in… but not a lot either

    You could have just went 90 degrees and went straight down with no cutting. And you’d get less water in your intake when it rains too. But you can’t drive it in the river anymore.
