I wear a Reverso as a beater. All day. Everyday. The original leather strap didnt survive the first year. Put it on a rubberized leather. Ive done sports activities, went to swimming pools and the ocean (with care). Its been 5 years. Got some light hairline scratches no big deal. Still keeping perfect time. And looking stunning! My faithful companion.
I made similar experience with my Duoface. I wear it very seldom, only on the silver side, went through several straps, but I would never sell it. It is just gorgeous.
This is a much nicer version than the current one. I like that the company name is on a blank plate on the dial and is clear and readable. At the moment it’s written on the uneven part of the dial and looks like a black smudge.
JLC has 8 years of warranty. Perhaps it is worth checking if it still has a valid warranty and get that watch serviced free of charge. In any case, I would rather give 800€ to JLC for service and get that case polished as part of the service, get the 2 years JLC warranty, than give it to the local watchmaker. On the other hand, of you see your reverso being always running too fast, maybe it only got magnetized?
As per JLC records, it has never been serviced by their official network, whether it was serviced by an independent watchmaker I do not know, but I doubt it has
Beautiful Reverso !! Do not / never polish your Reverso. I bought a polished Reverso "8-days-reserve" where also the back was so much polished that the engravings were almost faded away. This annoyed me so much that I sold that watch.. now looking to buy a new Reverso
Two comments, as an owner of a similar watch: 1. I doubt that these are still 35% up with the recent fluctuations in the market. 2. As you have discovered, it can be difficult to get a good fit with rectangular watches. I bought mine during the height of covid as part of a bigger purchase, and did not try it on. The fit was terrible, similar to your experience by the sounds of it. I was saved by Casa Fagliano in Argentina, who make Reverso straps with “curved ends”. It’s pretty expensive, but it saved this watch for me. Agreed, I love mine too!
The JLC is very typical of the style of small rectangular art deco-ish watches popular in the 1930s. There are lots of vintage options like this on eBay. They lack the reversing function (for what it's worth) but have a curved back (sits much better on the wrist).
Likewise 2 years in on mine , I picked up at preowned reverso 986 duodate 2 years back and have worn it almost I’d say everyday since , and still loving it every bit as much 👍👍👍
For me, this is the most classy and beautifull watch ever. Perfection. Dont need to prove anything with size, classy square shape. If I have to choose just 1 watch for the rest of my life it would be Reverso for sure
My collection so far is an IWC mark XVIII pilot watch and a Rolex date just, but I have to say I could not want a watch any more than I want a JLC reverso duoface with an Ostrich strap
A beautiful watch that's for sure, you say if you're thinking of getting one go for it, easier said than done...lol...I'll carry on dreaming, and who knows what may happen.
the duoface actually is thicker because of the 2nd face, if you look at their website almost every model of reverso has different specs in terms of dimensions. I do find it interesting how they basically designed each model meticulously rather than just using the same case dimensions so they could shove the same movement in a bunch of different models... if they're not selling you a gmt / duoface they're making a different movement so the watch is thinner...
I've never bought a watch & thought of resale . I bought a Rolex Datejust with a silver linen dial Two Tone paid $350 1974 it's worth around $6000 now , their have been times when I've thought about selling I remember when they were selling for $2500 and thought how crazy is this , like you it's nice to know prices have gone up but doubt I'll ever sell
Love it but in practice the GMT function makes no sense. The button should make the light face jump instead of the dark side as the dark face is the “home” with the day/night indicator. Not sure what JLC was thinking.
Sharp observation. I realized that same fact the first time I brought the watch overseas. My solution is to set the local time on the white faced side when I land overseas, and then jump the black side to the time back home.
$800 versus $200 for a watchmaker that you trust and loves the watch? Why would you even think about that?! Especially if he's willing to give you some kind of basic warranty on the service but he may automatically give you already or could be worked in... real nice watch! Enjoy!
I've been eyeballing this watch for a year now, would you wear this traveling abroad than a traditional GMT? Also the white/black dial reverso is available at every boutique I went to, I don't think it appreciated that much.
I'm talking used, my reference is selling at roughly 38% more than when I bought it used. And yes, you can take this one traveling, only watch nerds will know it is valuable, unlike a Rolex 😂
Two weeks ago i got a cheap Cartier Tank homage (quartz), love it, plus it'll make me hunt a real one for sure (Solarbeat is the goal). Incredibly legible, amazingly elegant, so diverse you could wear it in any outfit in fact. Enjoy Marin, we buy watches we like to have, not to flip... Cheers mate.
His is an older one but if it helps- I got a new one in May 2021 and tested it last week and it’s pretty much spot on. Scarily showing 0.0-0.3spd in all but one position.
great video !!! agree on so many points, honeymoon, not a daily, etc... I thought Id put s rubber or nato strap on my rg 976, contrast will be crazy I thouught, turns out its the only one of the lineup thats 1mm wider no sporty jlc bracelet fits. Not sure about a random watch bracelet brand. I dont agree about precision because I know as a fact that the jlc976 is impressively accurate. I synchronize it with my 22' airking ( which is extremely accurate when its always worn ) with any online atomic clock, to the second, all starting at 00, and I I repeated many times and oserved both. Both were crazy accurate, the new cal3230 is really good, but the jlc976, to the second for hours and hours. AND I just came back from europe via heathrow so theey got cooked with x ray and magnetic fields. But I dont care ppl look at me crazy but I wear all my warches when I travel to avoid thesw x rays (maybe I was wrong all this time making a fool of myself for no reason, or that that metal detector gati is in fact more harmful because its actual EMF instead of x-ray...actually realizing as I type... 😂🤦🏻♂
Hello very impressive vidéo. Your'e lucky to own this history watch. I love the concept. The Reverso are the most magical timepiece on the World congratulations
What you only switch it to the other side that little? Come on dude. It such an amazing watch im trying to get one now at a good deal. What is a good price for a duo face ? In good condition
I agree with you except on the value unfortunately and it's a shame regarding as the watch is a masterpiece. Anyway it would have changed nothing to my purchase. I have the new generation of your model, duoface GMT and I prefer your silver side with the JLC written on a plain space rather than in the guilloché like on mine. I wear mine quite often (at least 2 days a week with my OP the other days) except on summer because the sweat is bound to damage the strap.
I've bought mine used, thus it was great value, especially since the price and hype around Reverso has grown since I bought it. Buying new, it will depreciate, but like you said, even if I bought new and "lost" some money, I would be ok as it is a masterpiece 😁

Sadly I bought this one used, it is actually from around the year 2000, so it's closer to 20 years than 8 😂

True, Because otherwise you'll never be truly loving the watch you bought.
Best reverso for me too
Do you remember the place that sold watches in Japan you used buy from many years ago? Mainly citizen eco-drive watches. I can't remember.
