Too bad Guinness World Records are lazy in the record recognition department as it took 21 years to recognize Gregg Ernst's World Record breaking back lift. The reason it took 21 years to grant Gregg his record was that Guinness World Records dropped the Back Lift from the feats of strength category right after 1993.
Guinness was gun-shy about strength stuff after they were convinced to re-assess, & remove, (due to a total lack of credible witnesses or evidence), Paul Anderson's supposed 6,270 lb lift. Read David Willoughby's *The Super-Athletes* to realize how much of strength history can't be proven, (tho the book presents these feats as fact)..
yeah cyr supposedly back lifted 6600 but he never did it in front of credible faces his record of 4336 lbs was just part of a entertainment act his maximum strength was never seen.
no the reason it took 21 years is because no one bothered to pay them to attempt a record and they brought Greggs in to hype it up once some one showed up. Probably not even their idea but the idea of the customer who wanted to be in the publication. Guiness World Records is not a record keeping organization - it is a PR firm; all it's ever been.
Paul Anderson back left 6270 lbs that about 1100lbs less what this guy did what paul Anderson did that's insane how anyone can lift that much weight that's what I call strength 💪
Anderson never lifted 6270. Iron Man magazine debunked that years ago by inventoring the weight used by Anderson in his backlift, and came up with under 5,000 lbs. Still an incredible lift and hundreds of pounds more than Louis Cyr did.
ONE PROBLEM WITH THE BACKLIFT is there's no standard platform nor standard ROM (range of motion). Also, there's so little ROM in any recorded backlifts that it's easy to miss when there's any movement. 😆
*It's a lie. He levered them up, not lifted them entirely off the ground so only he was connected to it.* He blatantly got nowhere near close to pulling all 4 corners of that platform free into and exclusively tied to the ground through his body.
Strength comes from the heart. - Excellent dissertation, very, very true!!
Accomplishing such great feats of strength while raising a family... now that's true strength.
"Strength comes from the heart, and if you have your heart in order, you'll be a strong man."
Wise words.
Wow Hes not only strong - hes a Real cool man. You can really feel how much his wife and Kids appreciate him - there should be more people like this.
His deadlift at the 1992 Worlds Strongest Man is my all time favorite !
Strength comes from the heart.. very true! You'd be surprised at what you can accomplish when your heart and spirit aren't stressed. Love it! ❤
greg looks like a great guy
he is my friend just married his daughter so i got to meet him
This guy is awesome.
This man has some large stones.
They failed to mention that he is a fine singer.
What a gentleman

This is awesome. I wonder if Gregg is still around in the Atlantic strength scene..
proof you can be strong without drugs and 10000 calories a day
yeah and Hulk Hogan was a natty too. LMFAO
Proof anyone can post a comment
this guy is awesome,
his platform was angled but still he did over 5000pounds on the backlift . now where is he
Is that whey in the yellow bucket at 3:33?
You have to get fired up, without throwing up!
I'd like to see some back lifts that are more likely than 2mm off of the ground, no doubt he is strong but I can't call the cars and opens lifts
Thats insane because you can clearly tell that guy is not on any type of gear imagine what he would have been lifting if he was.
Great video! What process did Gregg go through to qualify for WSM, by the way? Was there a lot of travelling to other countries for qualifiers?
Dang, I bet those games of catch in the back yard with that Dad were brutal.
Supreme dad physique
Clean living and family and faith in god. Gee I wish Canada and the USA were still this way....

However, Ernst isn't stronger than Anderson allaround. But he's pretty darn close.

Mitchell Hooper 2022
psss I could lift 5341 pounds
that was just for show he can actually throw the planet off its axis but y'know he doesn't feel like it today
I used to steal his lunch money back in high school.😅

say that 2 his face
@@leeharveyoswald1161 say that to *reality.* It's only been over 30 years since his failed lift you dummy.
He is amazing!
